  1. Go to Citylife Chiang Mai Facebook page (am I allowed to say that?) and we have a link to a new group called, I think, Chiang Mai is Burning, which going to start organising monthly parties with House music for 18-30s...Or PM me for next party info. Also tons of different scenes. Check out Amy at Cafe del Sol off Ratwitthi, she has tons of friends in that age group.

an excellent little bar which serves fantastic mojitos.

Yes and Amy is great, look for Cafe Del Sol and Lucky Foo's on Facebook, both Amy's are really cool and can point you in the right direction!

  2. I understand that it may be difficult to elaborate giving the profession of said harrasser, however without knowing exactly how you are being harrassed it is difficult to give advice.

I am curious though - why is your partner is still in contact with this guy, how does he have her number, how does he know where you/she live, what does your girlfriend say will happen if this guy moves to Chiang Mai, why is your girlfriend getting you involved with this, did you know she was married to a cop before you got together, long have you been together and is the ex or your girlfriend asking for any money to resolve the situation?

    :)

  3. With the number of food threads on this forum I can only surmise that most posters must look like they have just eaten half a sheep. How do you do it ? I put on weight just reading them !!

Yah, we're all real fatsos with big beer bellies after we finish stuffing ourselves. Isn't that what everyone thinks of the typical farang semi-expat?

    Wow, your Grandaughter is beautiful!

  4. Let's not forget that many of us old-timers were fairly young when we settled here. I was in my early 30s. One thing that I always liked about Chiang Mai was there was very little age related bigotry.

There were not many farangs and so many were complete nuts back then that you were happy to talk with anyone that was somewhat sane and it did not matter if they were young or old. Young guys hung out with old guys and vice versa.

This talk of separate places for fun is a step backwards as far as I am

    concerned. :)

fun is fun for a young man so any nite u have 2000 baht to spend .....being 28 years old you will be a king at foxy lady go go bar with the oh so sweet young girls there fighting over you....... go early for a "date" about 8:30 to 9:30 ... the prettier ones get "asked out" on a "dates" early...this is more fun that getting warmed up at Warm Up or trying to figure out the local collage girls if you are only up here "short time" as you indicated your time is precious .

    have fun!!!

strange as it might seem to some, this is not necessarily the idea of a great night out for every farang aged below 40 in chiang mai. it is possible to have a very nice social life in chiang mai without behaving like a walking stereotype.

Yes Mr H, I completely agree, although in my cynical mind all men are addicted to sex, the op was asking about where to hand out with cool people to have a good time, and hopefully at 28 is not desperate enough yet for the bangkok shufflin' foxy lady chicks!

  5. hi guy's

i'm living in thailand (rayong) for a year now and plan to move to chiang mai for a while..

can you give me a few options where a 28 year old will have the most fun.. and maybe some adresses for renting a small room for a month or more if i like it there.

    cheers guy's

Sorry but if you are hoping to find peers of about your same age in Chiang Mai, than come back in another 45 years.

This is the land where old coffin dodgers come to have a last fling than die, but they dont.

Think I`m joking? You`ll soon find out for yourself.

Wow, that is EXACTLY what I wanted to say! Most definitely true!!

  6. I've been in a couple of pharmacies and i get allways the same answer, they don't have that kind of thing..

does anyone know where to buy it?

If you like that product maybe you will like Sabu Sabu, I absolutely love thier natural products and the After Bite is amazing!

Check out www.sabu-sabu.com they are based in Chiang Mai on the road to Mae Rim.

  7. Why The hel_l Is This For Us Citizens Only?
You just need to pal up with a US citizen who can bring up to 5 non-American guests. The VFW probably received federal money to partially subsidize this, so it's primarily for US citizens. 100 baht is pretty cheap.

Good point, thank you. I just don't wanna miss out on those hotdogs!

It is not for US citizens ONLY. Read your own post. Non-US citizen guests of US citizens are also invited. Being that it is a celebration of Independence Day, a US holiday, does it not make sense that only Americans and their interested guests be invited?

Oh thanks, just read my own post!!! and oooh US citizens can bring 5 non citizens WOW! Look, I'm just saying, can I not be chuffed about Independance day too, I celebrate Christmas and Im not a Christian, I get tipsy on Guiness on St Patrick Day and I'm not Irish!

  10. My 5 year old goes to Lanna school and it's closing for summer holidays from mid June until mid August. They have a summer camp throughout July which is rather expensive @ 950b per day.

Is anyone out there aware of other camps/schools/organisations that offer any kind of teaching/activity programmes that would be suitable for my daughter?

Any input or feedback much appreciated.

    regards Bojo

I think Napa (Nakorn Payap International School) has a holiday camp, I'm not sure of the price but I don't remember it being as expensive as 950 a day!

  11. I don't mean to be sexist, but I think I'd like getting massaged by a hunky guy for a change. But I only ever see masseuses at massage places. Are there masseurs in Thailand, or is that a taboo thing?

    thanks,

    mp413

:) Yes, I fancy that too! Trouble is I don't think there are ANY hunky guys in Chiang Mai! If you find any send them my way!!! :D

  12. I do feel sorry for this lady, and her children, horific experience. Although 90% of people are stupid, and some people may know the risks but are prepared to take them for the photo opportunity, but I really can't believe that you would be surprised that a tiger may attack.

I'm really dissappointed to hear that the family may sue, they are here to do charity work and they want to make some money from this awful situation?

she signed a waiver so she can not sue successfully in thailand under a thai law. this is not the west. please try to keep up with the posts. they have also said their only financial claim is for medical expenses to be paid, and the management have agreed to this.

whether they will pay of course is another matter

jeeze, ok! Actually I read the posts and some of the posted reports say that the tiger place says they will pay medical expenses, and in one of the reports, and account from the husband it says that the family are in discussion with a lawyer to sue. I no how it works , I live here, that was my point, it's ridiculous to sue here, as I have found from my own personal experience, but to sue for a wild animal attacking is crazy!

  14. I love tiger kingdom!

Hope this lady is ok, must have been a scary experience.

I have been several times with with two young sons who love watching the tigers whilst we drink beer and eat! I think it's a great place, they have a breeding program in place which is good as the Thai Tigers are becoming extinct in the wild. I would NEVER go in with the tigers though, especially with children as Tigers are wild animals and could potentially kill at any momment. I have to admit I'm allways taken aback by the amount of tourists that are quite happy to go into the cage with the big tigers, it's almost as though they are putting their trust in the owners that nothing will happen, which you can do in Western countries, but not, as those of us who live here, in Thailand!

  15. I shall not turn off my phone being in whatever company for the simple fact that I have family around that might find it an emergency to get in touch with me at any point of time.

if you spend all of your waking hours worrying with your phone on "just in case" of some terrible emergency befalling them then your life must be very worrying indeed .... are your family working in afghanistan , climbing mount everest , swimming with sharks ?

if you are so concerned about your family then you should spend less time in the pub and more time at home.

how many life and death emergencies have you encountered in the past five years that necessitated your being constantly available.

how did you manage 10 years ago before mobiles were so commonplace ? you survived , and so did everyone else.

    get a life.

peoples reliance on mobile phones has become a crazy obsession , and an annoyance for those in their company.

the frequency with which people keep checking them just in case they have missed that all important message or call , (you know .... the call that never comes ... to tell them that some terrible event has occurred that they cant do anything about except tell everybody else before dissolving in panic ), is surely a symptom of a particularly nasty form of obsessive compulsive disorder.

    you people need a doctor.

the sooner bars , resaurants , banks and all public buildings ban their use the better.

i merely stated whats important for me. if thats unacceptable to you, go piss off to some other forum. having a mobile phone around is handy "to me". its provides that extra benefit to me of not being in the need to look for a telephone box when I do need to make a call or to receive one. It is not an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder that I have.

and who are you to assume whether i spend more time at home or the pub? do you know me? do i know you? of course not. I wouldn't hang out with people like you anyways!

seriously tell me that you do not carry a mobile phone and i'll leave it at that. otherwise perhaps you need to see a doctor.

let's not even talk about the number of people i know who carry their GPS around. In case u don't know what that stands for, its a Global Positioning System you old git!

    TB..

    High Five!

Sigh, would like to say so many things in response to this, but I prefer to explian my argument rather than attack, because I'm a mature intellectual.

I actually have family in Iraq, which I consider to be dangerous, also my children are under someone elses supervision. I do not spend my life worrying and waiting for the phone, but I choose to have it constantly on and with me because, if there is an emergency, thank fully due to modern technology I can be contacted immediately and therefore react immediately. If venues ban phones, they will be empty.

  17. Hardly bashing a business, mearly describing an experience, which I think is very valid, people use the internet allot before deciding where to eat, drink, holiday, live - so on, and then we as readers make our own intelligent decision as to wether to give these business' our hard earned cash. A hairdresser in Chiang Mai turned my hair blued yesterday, I will not "bash" their business but I will put my experience out there so that people can make up their own minds as to wether or not they wish to visit this salon. Its called "word of mouth" a practise that is been in operation for centuries, the only difference is that the internet reaches more people faster! Hurrah!

WOW! Blue hair AND vibrating knickers........ when can we meet? :o

I stayed at The Pub over Christmas & new year, it was a nice place to stay, and i found ALL of the staff friendly and helpful.

    FF

Te He! Meet you in the pub, I'll be the one with the blue hair and vibrating knickers, hopefully you'll be the one in the kilt with no knickers! We'll switch our phones to vibrate so's not to offend and mines a double vodka on the rocks, cheers!
