  1. On the ground floor of Airport Plaza, walk towards the TOPs market, on your right hand side a clothes shop, not sure of the name but they allways have two badly dressed mannequins in the entrance, on the right hand side by the counter lots of belly dancing stuff, with bells on!

  2. Is the aquarium worth the 450 bht in anyones opionion?

I have to say I completely agree that charging more is discrimination, :o:D and I think its time to take a stand before the "farang price" gets out of hand!

If the entrance fee is 450 bht, that's around 9 English pounds, which even in England is expensive to see some fish!!

The people who come up with the "farang price" seem to forget that we are not all tourists, and that allot of us live here with young children who would like to visit something like this regularly, for example I like to take my children to the lake at the Night Safari as it's only 100 bht for me to get in, kids are free, so I dont mind going once every couple of weeks. They get tired out doing the walk, the monkey throws some crap at us, the leopard allways scares the crap outta them, a bargain at 100 bht!

So, unless someone tells me the Chiang Mai Zoo Aquarium is AMAZING (I mean Jaws and Nemo stylee) then it's a no for me!

  3. Howdie

I had my passport done at one of those sticker booths in carre four, at the entrance go upstairs to the food court and on your left hand side right next to the skippy land is a sticker booth. Think it was about 100 bht, I had to watch the screen and make sure that I had no glasses on and that my head was centre and large in the pic.

I have since used the pics for a new visa from Hull, no problems.

  4. Excellent question, and not an easy one to answer.

First of all, I just don't know if Huay Tueng Thao is an option (never mind if it's a good one); normally it's only open during daylight hours. Perhaps someone can weigh in.

Second, the moat is NEVER an option; water doesn't flow and its hard to get to; nobody floats in the moat except lost tourists from Bangkok.

Third, near the main bridges in town is not suitable for small kids. Crowds too big and firecrackers being thrown all over the F'ing place including where you're walking. It's insane.

So that leaves you with four reasonable options:

    1. On the river but either North or South of town. South of town the Pa Daed area is reasonable, that's near the bridge with Aom Muang Rd (road from Airport Plaza to the Superhighway)

    2. At a restaurant on the river. You need to book these. I called Sergio yesterday (Buonissimo) and he's doing a buffet, 650 baht pp and he was all but sold out!!

    3. Find a small stream somewhere in the surrounding villages.. A lot of villages (parts of Chiang Mai now I guess) would have a scaffolding/pier made to float from. Your mileage may vary here; it can be perfect, or it can be annoying drunk guys being a pest.

    4. Resorts and stuff... Oriental Dhara Dhevi for example is organizing something that looked magical. It wasn't even THAT expensive. (Note: Even though it's super high-end as a hotel/resort, there's a lot of stuff around there that's priced at a distinctly sub-stratospheric level. )

    Thank you, great help.

  5. This may be the definitive topic for showing the misanthropic tendencies of many Chiang Mai expats, several of whom were apparently not conceived, carried, delivered, and raised by caring parents, but emerged fully formed from a cracked Beer Chang bottle.

    :o

  6. Yes, I'm not disagreeing with the facts regarding Thai landlords being able to do exactly as they please, withholding thousands of baht deposit in my case, however 65craig is still intitled to be pissed, and your responses don't read sympathetic at all.

It's very stressfull/scary having your first baby and the stress of having to move is difficult.

I would definitely be leaving some shitty nappies behind!!

So you are angry about them withholding 1000's of baht in your case.... got it.

There are always consequences to having babies .... and one is that you can't always live where you want.

    Touche!

I'm just saying..sigh..let's just be nice about it.

One other consequence being sleep deprivation torture!!

  8. Jeeze! What's up with your lack of sympathy guys! This is an absolutely disgusting way to be treated, having had two sons myself I can completely understand the stress that this situation must have caused you. Knowing that you have a safe "home" to bring your baby home to is very important.

Did your landlord give you any reason for asking you to leave?

  9. Help :o please all C.M tv members :D asap

I need to get a banner made . I need to find a place that will supply the.. material,

and paint the words, I have had them made in other province,s but not here,

I will make the carrying poles myself directions please :D riley

Yes, sign guy on the canal road, turn right on the Huay Kaew road, opposite Moo Baan ing doi and along a little on the left handside.

  10. Just wondering - how much did you pay for your tab top curtains? I went to Sopa today, gave her a sample from the shop down the street which was 80bht a metre, and Sopa quoted 1,300 for two sets of curtains for two small windows. Does this sound about right, I have to admit that I was hoping to pay a little less!

    Cheeeers!

  11. I noticed a new farang/western restaurant in Sansai and tried it last night. The food is similar to The Duke's and the prices seemed very good. I had their ribs last night and they were pretty comparable to hel_l's Kitchen.

    It's called Ridgely's.

If you are at the Sansai/2nd Ring Road intersection (near the Tesco minimart), head down Sansai road towards the city. It's about 400m down the road on the right hand side.

Do you go past the Tesco Minimart on your left or down to Sansai? Sorry, I'm rubbish with directions!

  12. Really shocking, also brought tears to my eyes when I read this story this morning.

This is the Suns story today http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1593350.ece

I don't want to be a negative, but just incase anyone thinks that a child seat/belt can stop a bullet, I'm afraid that isn't true. I think Iian says that the surgeon could not locate the bullet and that he later found the bullet in the childs car seat which may indicate that the bullet went through the poor little girls body.

I am so pleased that Lala is ok, and I completely agree that the more publicity this story gets the better!

    :o
