  1. Is it 1M฿ held overseas in THB to be repatriated into LOS or merely the foreign equivalent of 1M฿ to be brought into Thailand and exchanged?

OP doesn't hint as to end use (some things might need to show originated outside Thailand) or country of origin.

If its just money to pi55 away in Thailand then handballing declared cash as already said is the way to go - If you hail from Switzerland you could accomplish it with a mere twenty odd banknotes (1M฿ in Thai cash is quite a brick of paper)

Your saying you paid the days spot gold price and the shop did not add in a shop commission of 400 baht.  If that's the case then the shop either charged you a little more or they actually lost money or broke even o the sale for the day.  Never seen a shop whether its a gold shop or a restaurant that gives away the item for the same price they paid for it, have to make a profit somehow to cover costs........

Then take yourself along to Chin Hua Heng on Yaowarat Rd and see for yourself - the days window 'sell' price is all that you'll pay on their 10 baht bars. They incidentally make some very attractive ones too (the dragon ones are nice) all with their stylised elephant logo

I have never notice any higher charge from them versus buying from the shops on Yaowarat Road, in China Town here in BKK.  As they are not gold ornaments, such as intricate bracelets or other Jewelry like rings, those can have a surcharge of 500 to 1000 Baht charged for the workmanship.  For the bars I have been paying between 400 baht more than the daily spot price, for each of bars, and for which gold is selling for that day. The bars are 96.5% gold.  You also need to watch them weigh the object as well as getting it in writing along with any warranty they may have.

Never paid any over spot 'commission' at all on 10 baht bars in Yaowarat Road

I made a suggestion which may or may not have worked, not having been there I couldn't know for sure.

Of course you are perfectly correct, it is a Paypal requirement that you open the account in your country of residence.

Paypal, it would now appear, have forced to take the view that foreigners do not reside in Thailand unless they can prove they do so, now the bone of contention.

The UK government however take a more open view on residency, because it suits them to do so, and reduce your pension.

Reminds me on an old Pink Floyd number.

Not quite:  It's not a PayPal requirement to open accounts only in your country of residence (I know from experience), And PayPal are not forcing foreigners to prove residency in Thailand they are now retrospectively EXCLUDING foreigners (be they residents or not) simply because they are not Thai nationals.

Incidentally, there have been a few assertions made along the lines of 'its not PayPal its pressure from Thai agencies' nevertheless whether this is the case or not, it is PayPal that allows it's clear and prescribed code of ethical standing to be disregarded so easily.

PayPal is a Global entity and I can see that possibly Thailand is just a comparative backwater and likely below the radar of general notice but no way on Gods green earth would PayPal dream for a moment of trying a similar stoke elsewhere in its fiscal empire. Could you just imagine a 'we'll just %&^* off all our USA customers who were not born in country' gaining any traction, and the resultant hue & cry and legal ramifications if they did.

If you have a UK bank account i would assume the address for that account is not in Thailand.

You should be able to change your Paypal address to that address by adding an address and then making it the primary address.

I can't remember how long I have been using Paypal, must be well over 20 years and never had a problem. When I came to live in Thailand I changed the Paypal address to a UK postbox, as I did with my UK bank account. My UK bank has been linked to Paypal since I started and a couple of years ago also linked my Wise account. I use my Thai telephone number for verification.

Yes - with a UK PayPal Account

But a Thai PayPal Account cant be reverse engineered as you suggest because as they stand only Thai and (perversely) USA Banks are possible

And as the the underlying subject matter of the thread states come October the Thai PayPal account is ceased as hes not a Thai national

Paypal is much more widely accepted. I haven't met a single web store yet which accepts Wise payments, and every 2nd web store accepts Paypal.

Because Wise is a conduit for cut price international bank transfers, not an online payments platform.

UK passports are not registered with any particular address, what are you talking about? It's not an address-specific document.

I think he was alluding to having a PayPal account in your country of birth, and overlooking the obvious omission that only a Thai PayPal account can integrate with your Thai bank account.

I don't have an address in the UK (my home country) or a bank account there anymore so what freaking country am I supposed to open the account in? Drop the "anyone smart" part of your message, it's nothing to do with being smart... just what makes life easier.

What's the chances of Paypal / Thai government reversing their decision if we make a big stink about it?

Who knows, but if history is any indication, the undercurrent of disgruntled customers did cause their previous volte-face in March.

I run a hobby esports competition and use paypal to send money to the winners from my Thai bank account.

I was annoyed about their March 2022 plans (cannot receive funds) - but these new plans have turned a bad situation into a more terrible situation. I've got some patreon subscriptions and other recurring payments.

What's the solution here for me? I can probably try to pay with CC for the subscriptions but how can I pay the competition winners if I'm no longer allowed to have a paypal account here ????

Well its 2022 you can bask in the knowledge that despite all the trumpeted global advances in equality and inclusion, you have the privileged position of perversely still experience swinging discrimination on the sole basis of your nationality - more akin to decades past - by a global corporate with the effrontery to actually declare such things as against their code of ethics.
