  1. I live in Rayong south east Thailand, I have been here 18 years and in Bangkok 10 before that, I now have a retirement visa, I have been around the world many many times and I am now happy to live the rest of my life here, i saw the South Pacific and Caribbean ruined by tourists but genuine Thais have remained true to there country and King, long may he live

  2. the gm of the hotel sat there with her hands firmly in her lap with her lips pursed and said 'mai aow' when i extended my hand to her.

I can also concur from working in BKK 11 years now, that for some Thai women in higher positions, when the time comes to show their true colors, they prove to have the maturity level of a 7 year old child not getting the latest toy for Xmas.

I would have thought by not taking your hand after a court ruling, there in front of all was a big face loss to her not you Donna.

    Great news on your win.

  3. OK here is how I handle those pesky vendors, Works for me:

Look at it from thier view...they are carrying this load of goods around all day and using thier best marketing skills. It is an honorable job in Thailand to sell by this method. They put the goods in your face and interrupt your converstion with your friend. What do you do to get rid of them.

DONT LOOK AT THIER GOODS. Thats what they want you to do. As long as your looking at the goods you might change your mind. You might at any second pounce on that stuff like its pure gold. LOOK INTO THIER EYES. SAY MAI OW. Go back to what you were doing and ignore them. Try to be polite, with your tone of voice etc. :o

That is true I have done it for 35 years here but somebody new to this country perhaps does not have the power of officialdom of the Thai language that we pssess

  4. It is your own personal choice, however I certainly plan to wear yellow. In my opinion there are few people on this planet past or present that can match the level of kindness, caring, and wisdom of HRH.

I fully agree I have never met him only his daughter but such a good man can never be found long live our King (I am a Farang but I feel Thai in many ways)

  5. When I see Paul McCartney Bill Gates Tom Cruise etc. reaping in so many millions for admittedly great talent, then I see my Thai neighbors slaving away for a pittance I tend to wonder where justice is.

I never bought a McCartney CD or paid a cinema ticket for a Tom Cruise movie , so I have no guilt here.

Saved my money to buy bonds so I can enjoy the interest for Pattaya nightlife :o

big LOL I have actually spent millions much to bar owners and girls delight, most in LOS

  6. The front of my house faces west and I see some of the greatest sunsets in the world from my porch, I have 5 rai here so could have built any which way, my biggest problem in this house and another I had built was the 3 metre Thai room size also they would not build certain number of rooms, length wise 3 was fine but 4 no way but after building I put an extension on, no problem. RSJ's were unheard of, an Australian Architect friend drew me up some great plans for a Spanish type Villa but the builder drew me up his type of plan on the back of a fag packet and I adjusted as I wanted, equally he built me a lovely place for half a million baht as opposed to getting Pattaya or Bkk builders in for probably ten times that amount.

  7. I recently upgraded my UBC from silver to Gold all it seems to provide is a few more movie channels and many of the programs from silver are not provided when my man phoned them they said I had to go platinum to get the same I had on silver I feel it is a bit of rip off

  8. I put my camera in for repair in a local shop here in Thailand (Sanyo) I stupidly left my memory card in it a 4 gig they took 2 months before telling me they could not repair it returned it to me without my memory card, does anyone know of an action on this

  9. In the US, people sue Mcdonalds for making hot coffee too hot.

In the US, people sue laundries for billions of dollars for a pair of trousers.

I hope by the time the somtam lady gets sued by people for making somtam too hot in thailand, I am dead already.

Nice one My Som Tam lady makes mine just right

  10. what kind of farang opens a go go bar?

what kind of farang spends time in a go go bar?

probably the types that ended up in this news story. lol.

I opened several Go Go bars in BKK I also visit them as do many people, as a bar owner I had pepper sprayed in my eyes also a cocked 45 held to my head but I would never attack a customer over 60 baht I wonder how much he had spent there

  11. If he spent several hours in a bar (Sat night to Sun. morning prior to 0330) and was only protesting a 60 baht charge he probably was drunk or sober as a judge. If it were the latter case he should have known better than to argue over this amount of money, he took up 60 baht worth of space and oxygen in the time frame. If it was former, nothing worse than a drunk argumentive Norwegian in a none Norwegian bar.

So what you are saying is that because this person disputed the bill, for a small amount of money, he deserves to be sprayed with a chemical in the eyes, beaten by several people, and wind up in the hospital. I guess, you just wouldn't be able to come up with a more constructive way of dealing with a situation such as this.

Fully agreed what is with this nationality business

  12. I forget what I named my Teddy Bear probably some obscure name of someone I liked but pupils naming one and then people screaming for my execution is just beyond belief please can someone explain why
