1. They used to have them at Global in CM also but after it burned and the rebuild they have nothing anymore.

These things also come in a rectangular form. I used this in Holland and really miss it here. Same as a normal rake. They also used to have them at Global. Why I did not buy at the time I saw them?? Stupid but I am starting to become a little Thai...... Later....

I hear you can find a very good selection of them on jet yeod :whistling:

    Sorry couldn't resist :jap:

    or maybe Huddersfield B)

    ....... Sorry , Couldn't resist either :D

Your right but they are more the heavy duty variety, built for comfort not speed blink.gif

  3. If the RAM is not original then I guess it's worth trying without one or the other stick. Other than that... might be a dead logic board. 5 years is pretty old, the pre-unibody machines weren't that great in terms of quality... just my opinion based on my older MBPs. I got the screen replaced on my 2007 MBP - it had died exactly 2 weeks after the one year warranty had expired. $600!

The 2009 unibody on the other hand never had any issues. Not a single one. Which is pretty amazing considering the amount of abuse I put it through. Ok I got the power brick replaced one time, but that was it.

Just though i would give you an update on my MBP, surprise surprise they tell me it's the logic board and estimated repair cost is 40,000 baht. Toying the idea of the repair or stump up for a new MBP or maybe one of those new ipad's if i can run office through it and keep my itunes library on my external HD to run along side it, i may be able to live with it.

    RIP my beloved MBP :-(

    The final chapter.

After talking to Applecare in the UK and then being transfered to customer services, they noted my machine was in fact just less than 4 years old and had already had the nvidia repair done 14 months ago (outside of extended warranty), i explained that the logic board would have been replaced as part of the nvidia replacement and a lifespan of 14 months on a major repair done by Apple was pretty poor, they agreed.

To cut along story short i gave then the serial numbers of all the Apple stuff i have owned over the years, whilst quoting Steve Jobbs "it just works" and "we don't ship junk" many times and they came back to me today and said they would class me as an exceptional case and agreed to care all repairs FOC

God bless Steve Jobbs and god bless Apple :partytime2:

  4. Thanks for the info I have been looking at the Apple Thailand website and the price and spec of the new 15" is very impressive.

I have been looking at eBay in the UK and surprised how many machines are for sale from the 2007 - 2008 period with same fault. There is obviously a known issue with logic board ( as with the Nvidia graphics card ) pity Apple won't own up like Nvidia and honor the repair, but I guess that sums up Apple these days.

  5. Yeah the new MBP'S are very nice and your right Apple products are cheaper here. I have a couple of quotes from repairers in the UK for around 15k baht so I am considering that option, uneasy about buying a used machine, bit like buying a secondhand R1 and the guy says it's never been raced ;-)

  7. I have fitted a set of Pirelli MT 90 AT scorpions to my KLX and have found them excelent on roads and dirt, whilst they may not be as good as full blown dirt tyres the do the job very well, cost around 6,500 baht for the set if i recall. The tyres are available to fit although as you can see below the front is slightly wider than the stock tyre, on the road the grip is great even in heavy rain.

    Pirelli tyres:

    Front 90/90-21Rear: 110/80-18

    Old tyres:

    Front 80/90-21Rear: 110/80-18

  8. Did you try the usual reset steps?

    - Hold down the power button for 10 seconds

    - Reset the SMC - google for it, the procedure is different for each model mac, and you haven't told us what year / model you have. Is it old?

    - Depending on the model it might be covered by various recalls Apple did over the years.

It's unusual to go completely dead... usually you can at least get to the grey startup screen... if you still have battery that probably means it's not just a fried power adapter, but you never know - try with / without the power adapter connected.

    I have a PowerBook G4 from the year 2001 that still works. I even have a 5300c from... I don't know, maybe 1997? - that still works...

Need more info to discover more. And no, I don't assume people at the CR Apple shop know any of this... even in Chiang Mai, in my experience, they are not going to sit there and try to figure out what's wrong and how it could be fixed. They'll just send it off to Singapore, where the logic board will be replaced for $1000 - they don't care it costs an arm and a leg, it's not their computer after all. They are good for in-warranty repairs but that's about it.

How old is your Mac and do you have the extended 3 year AppleCare warranty?

    Hi Nikster,

Yes tried all the usual steps the only thing i did not try was taking out the ram, the machine is a macbook pro 15" and five years old and out of extended warranty. I have tried starting with and without the battery and also using a spare power block, still no joy. Last year i had an issue with the graphics and after a lot of talking and me producing a page from Apples website describing the known NVIDIA isssue they reapaired it free.

I am back to the UK for a month shortly, i will wait to see what the guys in CM say (logic board for sure will be the reply) and take back to the UK and get the genius bar to check it out, looking on utube i see there are lots of various issues with boot up and sleep mode maybe i will get lucky with Apple.

  9. What happens when you push the button on the battery? Do you get any lights on it?

Tried that, all the green lights come on bar one, i have mainly used it while it's been plugged into the mains so the battery should be OK. Just come from the Apple shop in Chiang Rai and the guy spent half an hour scratching his bum only to tell me he will have to send it to Chiang Mai, i am bracing myself for a large repair bill :annoyed:

  10. Hi Guy's

I wonder if any of you could throw some light on this for me.

My trusty Macbook Pro has just gone completely dead on me, i was using it and all was fine put it on standby to make a coffee and hey presto dead. I understand these things don't last forever, even a Mac but a new house is being built on the plot next to ours and the usual cutting, grinding and welding are taking place. During this time our lights constantly flicker and our main water pump which has some sort of fail safe cut off keeps tripping.

Is it just coincidence or does the neighbors building works play a factor.

  11. So KB did you every come up with a solution i too have the same issue with my KLX, the lights are just useless at night, i am going to the UK in a few weeks and it's one of the things on my shopping list, maybe just replacing the headlight unit for a single bulb mounting would do the trick and then install an HID kit. The other option is fitting a pair of those LED / HD driving lights, they are not expensive in the UK, searching the web no real answers to be found.

  12. Just to clarify Sachs X road 250 price 99K Baht

    post-43826-0-56164000-1305642995_thumb.j

Or another possibility is the GPX 250 at around 77K Baht, available in a few shops in CR, although it is unclear if the big is plated.

  13. Can anyone provide more info about where this condo is located. Specifically, is this a 3rd condo in CR city area now? There is another blog about "Absolute" condo (located way up by the Rajaphat) that has migrated down the list of blogs. I'm assuming these 2 condos are not the same (or are they).

Sorry to mislead you the one I refered to is indeed the Asolute development.

  14. Heads up to potential home buyers,

I noticed a sale promotion at the Central last night with the usual selection of pretty girls (i noticed the girls first) drumming up pre start orders for the apartments on offer. Apparently the single bedroom units start @ 900 K baht and the two bedroom units @ 2.2 million baht.

But hurry up folks if you are looking for a new pad for the Mia Noi, most units have already gone and they claim 75% have already sold and 55% of the them are farangs. Who there was no money in CR :bah:

  15. I finally upgraded the suspension with Hyperpro springs - 11k for back and front. Managed to make the ride way worse than before by telling the Kawa mechanic to make it "hard". That resulted in the bike riding like a Buffalo, jumping over the slightest bumps and nearly throwing me off on some occasions; the front wasn't unsafe, just really uncomfortable. Amazing what the wrong suspension settings can do!

I returned to the Kawa shop and had all the settings set back to recommended values, and now it's great. Hyperpro shocks make the ride feel better, plus the purple spring looks hot, I'd get it for that alone (YSS take note, I was thinking about a YSS rear shock but it only comes in boring black....).

Upgraded the tires to Diablo Supercorsa SC and yeah... wow, what a huge difference to the BT021. These things just have the grip! For the first time owning an ER-6 bike, I now have a rear brake. Whereas before the ABS would engage under any kind of harder braking on the back, the supercorsas are so sticky that they actually slow the bike down... The front brake is even better.

So I thought this would just be for added confidence in corners, but what's much more noticeable is better acceleration / deceleration as these rubbers just stick to the ground. Amazing.

A friend has the same on his D Tracker and what a difference on such a small bike !!!

Talking of small ie; me. Can you get a seat lowering kit like the one i have on my KLX and if so does anyone have an idea how much it brings to bike down, i wouldn't want to start taking the seat apart or wearing platform boots ....

How about these Bob, they deliver to Thailand. http://motowerk.com/Versys.aspx

You can order a similar part, locally made, for a lot less:

    Tony & Stu,

Thanks for the info, has anyone tried these lowering kits, looks like they will drop the bike down about 2" but do they effect the suspension or handling in any way. I know the er6n has a much lower seat height but the Versys appears to have better potential off road capabilities, which is what i am looking for to replace my KLX on longer trips.

  17. May 4th some of us woke up with pounding heads and for a while it seemed we might lose a rider or two icon_crazy.gif

Nothing like some good coffee and excellent food at Nan's HOT BREAD to get the day started icon_thumbup.gif

The road to Phu Chi Fa-

Original plan had called for a night in Mae Salong, but upon hearing that there is ZERO nightlife there we quickly agreed to overnight in Chiang Rai instead, (but we forgot to tell Skateboad John, so he ended up in Mae Salong by himself... Oooops! SORRY John! icon_sick.gif)

CR was a good choice as we did indeed find some entertainment and kept the Jack flowing at the Lamyai bar until 3am icon_clap.gif

Good to see you guy's managed to get a grip of our local nightlife in good ole CR :whistling: Looks like you sampled some of the best roads in the country in the process, next time your planning a trip this way drop a message in the CR forum i am sure many of us would like to join in. Also see you stopped at that weird place cafe on route 12, what a great road, but not much fun riding it in the dark as myself and a buddy can vouch for

  18. Hi Svenivan,

The guy we use used to be with Advance Services the International Pest COntrol people.

He struck out on his own and is doing a great job. You can call "she who shall be obeyed" and ask for the number for Khun Uthen. He charges us about 7K per year but that includes all the house against termites and other creepie crawlies and long leggedy beasties and the garden against ticks to keep the dogs protected.

It works very well as we have had no problems since we've been there.

I should mention perhaps that we did use others before such as the company next door to the Bike Shop on the way out of town to Mae Sai and Advance themselves but after a good start they both faded to being more than mediocre so we dropped them. Uthen is drastically cheaper too.

    Cheers, m'dears

Thanks AjarnP, that was the information I was looking for !

    Next beer on me !

    :jap: :D :jap:

    Sven,

We use a company called PT Care & Service tel 0871 752071, having tried the rest, including fish killers we find them to be very good :jap:

  19. International chemicals is the place to go, coming from the kings statue towards Big C just after the traffic lights for Wiang Chia, get into the service road and its on your left side, look for a blue sign. i get all my pool stuff from them for less than half the price of the pool shop shops in town. :jap:

  20. Have to say it looks and sounds great, pity Suzuki or Honda don't step up to the plate and offer a sensibly priced 400 / 450 and we could all have some real fun.

Shame about it not being plated but even with that add on cost its still a cheap bike and by the looks of things you could tinker with the engine to get a bit more hp, looks like my KLX will soon be on the market :jap:

The Lifan LF200 is much more a road-capable off-road motorcycle, while the GPX ZF250 has a much higher motocross character... (hope I say that correct...)

The model I'm interested in, the ZF250 Enduro, has the same engine and gearing as the 100% motocross version – so less on-road comfort while on the other-side the off-road capabilities get better.

  21. Sorry, I dragged up an old thread - I was just hoping someone had some experience with unregistered bikes in the post?:jap:

I bought an unplated bike in Korat and just rode into the post office they made notes of the frame and engine numbers by the nice postman and six days later it arrived in Chaing Rai, no problem at all cost around 1000 baht if i recall.

  22.

Which party would that be?

Yeah come on Jubb, take those stabilizers off the KLX and come downtown, but not next week, some of us are off on a mission..... ;-)

Good job on the Dire Straits vid by the way.

  23. Big words, whether appropriate or not, equal ridicule. I'll try and remember that when composing future communiqué for this illustrious and distinguished assemblage. ;)

Angry with the world today VF !. or just misunderstood

hey, Woralak . 'Jep Dude' is that like 'Jep Toot' ? Like they say 'Bear with a Sore Ass' !? ;)

we should be thinking about the next route. Woralak mentions the chiang khong and puu chi faa. can make a nice long or short circular route. And all Tarmac (the last time I looked) so should be ok for all. the bit over doi yaow or whatever its called could be a problem as its seriously steep. Its a spectacular view but not without its risk.

I also think we have missed the riding season, its getting far too hot in the afternoons now. Maybe we can have a support vehicle next time with Aircon for some of the ladies , also allow us to do the tricky bits solo. My Kids will be off school for the next trip, so maybe I'll be the support vehicle. may even do an over nighter.

There are just so many routes up here, does everyone have a copy of the GT-Rider golden triangle map ? thats the place to start looking if you are thinking of planning a route.

Thanks for the back up Jubbs, another poster seems to think that big words and a negative response is more fitting, (no names no pack drill) i write from the heart and talk out my mouth, anyway we still have time to check out the route for the next trip if it is to be puu chi faa, we dont have to meet in CK and it doesn't have to be a sleep over it was just a thought and i was trying to be accommondating to those who wated to stay over.

I can't comment on the state of the roads as i haven't used them in years, maybe Raylo would be in a better position to add something on this or maybe Sven, we could even meet up in Toeng.

There are many ways to go to puu chi faa and some of the roads as i remember are best avoided, again i'm sure someone will have a better feedback about this.

Sorry to see there has been a little squabbling going on after our first trip, i don't think what size of bike you ride is a factor, it's all about enjoying the day and meeting up old/new friends, although size is important (or so they say) when deciding on the route to take, some of us that have smaller machines would find it a bit of a struggle to cope with some of the steep inclines, again we have time on our side to make sure it is doable for everyone that wants to come along and hopefully enjoy the the day.

To put it simply "it's not the destination but the ride that matters" looks like for the most part you had FUN and that's what counts, maybe i will show up next time and bring my Tupperware scooter on steroids ;).
