  1. As a possible member of that "outlaw bunch" any day with a Y in it would be good for me :jap:

For me it is OK anyday except 21st of Aug because of the Hash and I am the hare.

But I would prefer a day when it is not raining!

    Can you arrange that KD?

    :blink::huh::blink:

Nah, I don't mess with the weather. I learned my lesson about that. We will get what we get. But we are expecting you and that outlaw bunch that you ride with to show up, rain or not.

  2. For those of you like me who are trying to squeeze every last big of power out of their KLX 250 or D Tracker this simple mod may help. If you haven't drilled holes in the lid of your airbox thinking it was a little drastic try replacing the air duct with one from a Kawasaki Boss, its pretty much the same as the original but shorter and the duct aperture is twice the size of the original.

You will need the help of MR Dremel to enlarge the opening slightly, otherwise its a straight forward replacement.

The part number for the duct is 14073-1734 (274 baht), i also replaced the stock air filter for the K & N KA-1287, i have definitely noticed an improvement and for 274 baht for the duct its worth a try.

You may have to order the part as i did from Chiang Mai as many of the Thai riders have already got in on the act.

  3. Marc,

If you have major work that needs doing you are best going to CM, i have used the Grace Dental Clinic and found them excellent and very popular with other expats in CM, cant remember the number but Google it and i am sure it will show up.

I have also been told of a good lady dentist in Bandu if anyone can give further info.

  4. Good to see your keeping it warm for him, i suppose its better than trying to do wheelies on the ride on mower :-)

Take care of those bearing you hear......

I was just going to say I know of one other Orange er6n from that shop. I suspect I know you Oldrocker ;-)

its the young rockers bike I just keep it going for him while hes in the uk,lifes a bitch!!

  5. You could try the following :

    www.tigersachsclub.com

    www.gt-rider.com

I am sure you will find the information you need, or speak to the guy's at ST on JetYeod i am sure they could put you onto someone. :)

  6. HI Guy's

I have looked through your pages but cant find any up to date info on good seafood restaurants in Cha-Am, i am coming down from Chiang Rai for a weeks R&R next week, can any of you recommend any good ones or any other good places to go with the wife and a 4 year old (with no distractions if you know what i mean), we are staying in the Beach Garden Hotel.

    Cheers

  7. I also run a mac and they sync up perfectly as you would expect, i have the 3GS 32GB, if was to tell you i have around 4000 songs, 100 or videos, 300 pictures 4 different gps route planners such as TomTom, my address book and two email accounts going through it and still have 7 GB remaining.

Hope this answers your questions :)

  8. Hi Jimbo, it was nice to meet you the other day.

I was the guy who spoke to you at Northern Farm. Saw you motoring back along the old Chiang Mai road this week as well.

Call in and see me some time if you're out that way again, the guys in the police box after the 21km post on that road know where I live.

Scea, could that be the same police box that has my name in lights ?

  9. I certainly do appreciate all the good feedback on the Apple iPhone 3Gs Smartphone. Thank you all very much, and I think several more than just me have benefitted.

I am a lot more informed but still undecided.

A decision to buy seems marginal in my case in some areas, and compelling in others. I guess the learning curve and the monthly fee for the internet connection hangs me up some, living on Social Security as I do. I am too used to cheap cellphone rates I guess, but as the saying goes, "Don't buy a boat if you can't afford the dock space."

This phone is available at the True Move shop in Big C here in Chiang Rai for 30,495 ($931 USD), and the unlimited acess internet connection with 300 SMS messages and 300 minutes is 599b ($18.30) per month.

I have a question about emailing. Do you have to use MobilMe to take advantage of all the email features, or can I still use Yahoo and Yahoo Voice as I am now doing??

    Petruchio

No you don't need Mobile Me (its for Mac anyway) you can use all your mail programs from the iphone and still access them as normal through a pc, if you are using a mac they just sync up as soon as you connect the iphone to the mac, along with your address book, itunes and pictures is you wish The big thing to watch out for with True, as i found to my cost, is to make sure you turn off the edge and 3G and only turn it on when you are away from a free wireless hotspot and need to check your mail or browse the internet, otherwise you will use up your bundled internet time and end up with a very large bill.

I am not sure if you are correct about the unlimited internet access, i have been with them for 4 months and although it was detailed on the web site the package was not available in CR, but maybe things have changed. But if your right rush out and buy one today !!!

  10. Thanks for that, Abrak.

I have both AIS 3g (lite) via a flash drive modem hooked up to laptop, and a DTAC phone with EDGE, and data cable, for both laptop and mobile web use here in Chiang Mai.

Far as I know, if you buy an iPhone, and try to use in Chiang Rai, it will just be on EDGE.

Seems that at this point, an iPhone would be a waste of money. (3G has a throughput much much higher than GPRS/EDGE).

You can buy dozens of phones with EDGE capabilities (Blackberry, HTC, Samsung, Nokia N72, etc.) that are a lot cheaper than an iPhone.

    Just my 25 satang.

I have a 3GS iphone and it is indeed the best thing since sliced bread, i am on True and pick up 3G in CM and BKK, although i have to say the reception on the fringes of town (Chiang Rai) is pretty poor. The main concern now is that if you buy the iphone outside of Thailand and jailbreak it to connect to any network in LOS, DO NOT install the latest 3.1.3 firmware update from Apple ortherwise you are screwed. Well for the moment anyway until someone on dev team hacks it.

  11. We have just got rid of ours, beautiful dog we bought as a pup 8 months ago, but proved to be as stupid as its owner and had a taste for Croc's. we got it from the Chiang Rai golf shop, the one adjacent to the vet's next to Big C, cost around 10 K....

  12. Thanks for that Ted, i actually printed off the TS sheet to give the guys at the Apple shop and like you only paid for shipping.

Thanks for the shortcut tip, but does this pretty much do the same as Techtool Deluxe ?

  13. Thanks for your super sharp response, but if you had taken the time to read my OP you would have seen the comment in the foot of your last paragraph applies in this case.

Failure i don't think so, I pick up my MBP Friday FOC :)

  14. The question should be raised that do you really want the best value vehicle or do you want the admiration and respect of your Thai neighbours?

If so, Isuzu D-Max is the only way to go.

    800px-Isuzu_D-Max_(first_generation)_(front),_Serdang.jpg

I agree most Thais will go Isuzu or Toyota because they see it as a best brand, i have a Toyota and more recently a Ford, I find Toyota in CR to be rubbish on aftersales, don't even think of going there without the wife if your not good in Thai.

Ford on the other hand (I have a new Ranger Max ) have a manager who is very proactive and speaks perfect English and the product is first class and does what it says on the tin, but resale wise you will take a knock with Ford unless you plan to stay with them. The question is what you want to do with it, my Ford is a 4 door auto Hi Rider for the better visibilty but has no 4 wheel drive, cant see the point of 4 wheel drive unless you plan on driving across the fields and up mountains etc

  15. The short answer in no.

It is located across from Samakee Wittayakhom School. It is also marked on the Chiang Rai Google Map.

They have my Mac Book Pro in for repair at the moment, although they said they would have to ship it to to BK or CM for the work, so i guess they are tied in with these shops in some way but they are not an authorised repair centre just a reseller which is pretty much the norm outside of BK.

I have to say i found them very helpful and spoke good English, deals can be had if you haggle but mainly by way of throwing in freebies, but a dedicated Apple shop in CR is a further step into the real world.

Don congrats on selling the mall, maybe now you can get your place into some sort of order or better still move 10 km into town ....

  16. Thanks guys for your input, turns out we have a nice new apple shop in chiang rai. The very nice people in there after a long debate agreed to send it to BKK and repair it foc, I only have to pay 500 baht shipping cost, I can live with that and my faith in Apple is now restored.

  17. THanks for the info guy's the syptoms look like a few other i have found on the internet, and it looks like i have a faulty chipset, i have spoken to my local Apple shop (well not that local 3 hours drive away in Chiang Mai) and they ask me to call in so the could run a diagnostic and see if it is indeed the Nvidia. If this is the case i hope those nice people at Apple with cough up and pay if not i will resort to whining to Apple as nikster suggested.

Nikster it sounds you have not much faith in the Apple shop in Chiang Mai, should i go tooled up !!

  18. Hi All

Has anyone had the same issue as i am having with my MBP, the graphics become distorted and the whole screen pixelates into green and blue and then freezes. after hard reset vertical lines appear then the machine comes up with the message to restart again, i have done this many times and still get the same message.

The machine was purchased in Aug 2007 and is the 15 inch model, i have found some info on apple support, that points to Nvidia prob's under http://support.apple.com/kb/HE37

has anyone had any success in Thailand with this, i live in Chiang Rai.

    Cheers

  19. I will never use Overbrook Hospital again. I was extremely over charged and my new born son was subjected to many unneeded tests. I was told he was seriously sick but it turned out to be gas! Id die in the street before I going back...

Sorry to here about your son, we have always used the Sriburin with our 3 year old and never had any issue's, i myself have just had a few days in Overbrook and have to say apart from the doctor the level of service was pretty poor and if you not a Thai speaker anything beyond yes or no answers are a marathon with the nurses and staff.
