1. I did actually go once to the border very early , around 6Am , the border was open butI had to wait 30 minutes so that the officer on early shift could finish his breakfast !!

The afternoon closing time can vary I think , officially 6pm maybe but they did say to me back by 4pm unless you want to stay there over night. I did stay but never again .

Please give the gory details on the overnight, it sounds as though you have a tale to tell ? :jap:

I took a motorbike tuk -tuk and asked him to take me somewhere nice to stay the night. He said he knew a place with some ladies , good I thought. I was taken 10km in land to an orange plantation , the rooms were in a pig shed , with the smell to go with it . The women were crating the oranges and stayed in the rooms , I was being offered the room inc. of a lady for the night for 500 bht , I departed very quick from there. Ended up in small guest house in town , but not nice to venture out as a lot of gunfire could be heard. Big holes everywhere , you need a torch , next to no lighting and the food available I wouldnt feed to my cat . A great place though , NOT !!

Did the 500 baht rate include free oranges :licklips:

  2. Hi Stu,

Have you ever used the vince pipe ?

I have a Tsukigi pipe for my KLX which sounds great if you want to be heard from 5 km's away, but as for extra power :(. I have done the snorkel enlargement K&N filter and KW ecu replacement and still only manage to get 140 max on a good day.

Has anyone in LOS tried to fit a big bore kit or even take out the EFI and put in a regular carb?

Where did you get the Air filter from? I'm after one for my KLX250

I bought it from the Kawasaki dealer in Chiang Mai along with the larger snorkel off a Boss, the filter ref is KA-1287.

  4. I wouldnt look at carb option now the thumper talk guys have the 331cc big bore working with a power commander.. Havent checked to see if anyones got the 350 big bore going yet.

Seems like the ideal way to go, KLX + big bore + power commander + pipe is still fairly reasonable in cost and a KLX with no restriction and 330 or 350 cc has to start getting a bit more potent.

Potent i like the sound of that, all would need then is one of the tank makers to actually come up with a bigger tank that doesn't need major remodeling work to fit it and we are all happy bunnies :D

  5. Reported to TV

Here is his reply to me:

    Hello ,

The bike has greenbook available along with all registration papers in Thailand available, the bike is located in a private parking in Thailand and is already registered in my name, i bought the bike from Thailand and i'm the second owner,it has only 9000 original kilometers on it, and has all verification papers from the mechanic who verified it, and all this information can be found on technical book history of the bike that is also present, the bike has ABS brakes.

Two weeks ago a person from Thailand told to me that he want to buy my bike.I said Ok,we will meet in Thailand and we will make the deal.I come in Thailand but no buyer, never respond my emails or calls .For this reason i need to be sure that you really want to buy my bike.

I am in Italy now and the bike is in Thailand..Here is how we can start this deal together.I do not need any advance payment done to me until you see my bike.

But because i will have to come back in Thailand to meet with you and make the deal face in face, i can not put myself on the road until i will have some kind of warranty :

Here is EXACTLY how I propose you to make a safe deal:

-You go to your nearest Western Union branch and deposit the money that you have to pay me for the bike on a familiar name ( Ex your best friend ) .

-After you deposit the money you will receive the receipt ( your Send Money Form paper copy ). Scan it and send it back to me in JPEG format.

-Once I receive the scanned receipt from you,i will keep the bike just for you and i I will IMMEDIATELY go and but the plane ticket and also i will send you the scan so you can know for sure when i will arrive....

You will not pay anything until you will check the bike and we will make the papers in your name.I know that buying or selling on the Internet can be rather difficult, and it is always hard to trust your companion, because you have never hear or see him.For this reason I want to complete this deal in the safest way possible, for you and for me.

You will have to send the money to your familiar name ,not in my name and this way you are protected and for me this will be the warranty that you really want to buy my bike.

The transfer must to be like this:

sender name : here will be your name

    sender address : your addres

receiver name : father, brother, relative name etc.

    receiver address : Italy

Once I receive the scanned receipt from you, I will immediately go and buy the plane ticket and i will come with the bike at you..After i will come to you , you will inspect the bike and all the papers.I will cover all the expenses for this money transfer once we meet. All the taxes will be deducted from the price of the bike. When you will send me the scanned paper i will see that you are a serious person and you really want to buy my bike.

    Thanks

Beware, and if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is

Yep i got the same letter, i have replied saying i wont use western union and will meet him in BKK airport cash in hand, i don't expect a reply <_<

  6. Hes saying.. I exported the bike to italy but the taxes are too high to register.. so western union me the money and I will ship the bike to you..

    Hi Guys

Just a heads up for those of you looking for a bike, as mentioned before by LLOS scammers are back with the usual western union, i now live in Italy scam, please beware and don't send any money !

Bmw Dakar 650 selling at 70K from BKK

Both look too good to be true and they are, be careful out there guy's :jap:

  7. hi mate i have a klx250 2010 very intrested in your kit what is the dif between 2000 and 2800 and is it easy to self fit my email is [email protected] i live in udon and i am very intrested in any other mods ideas as i am 95 kilos i need to change the springs

    Regards

    Matthew

Well Im one of the guys offering the derestriction for 2,000 baht in Chiangmai and i can assure you it does the exactly same thing as the 8,000 Baht CPU from Kawasaki, I dont claim to give the bike more power than it actually has it just bypasses the restrictor which controls the fuel injector from 3rd gear up to 6th and it does it by leaning the engine back, a lot of Thai guys from the D-tracker web site are running colder plugs to keep the engine cooler. Kawasaki here in Chiangmai are claiming that the derestricted CPU will allow you to go to 140 kph, thats K**P. go to the gt-rider web site in "any messages here" and open the topic on derestricting KLX D-Tracker and read Ian Bunjys from the X centres report on his 8,000 baht investment.

We actually put in a couple of months work in working this out and getting it right and to read some of the comments on this blog from people who have opions without doing the home work, well what can i say. :)

    John

The 2000 baht derestriction isn't a kit it's done by Aussiejohn himself by cutting/soldering wires. If you feel confident enough you can do it yourself by following these instructions http://www.thumperta...ad.php?t=785180 or go for the other option which is to buy the performance ecu from Kawasaki which is a genuine keihin ecu and also comes with a regulator. If you're interested I have a Leo Vince slip on exhaust for sale http://www.leovince...._250_2009/11251, it's never been used or even fitted to a bike, they are 22,000 in BKK.

  8. Same old, green books, importing bikes, emissions etc waste of time, best thing in the end is to just buy a legit bike in Thailand.

Alas for some of us the bikes available in Thailand do not hit the spot, for instance the new Versys everyone is talking about, well i am trying to like it really i am but its just my thing. Fortunately for the bike manufacturers will are all different, as for the bike i am chasing after (which was never available in Thailand) most people would laugh of the thought of owning one, but hey i am used to it i owned one before :jap:

  9. You can import it as spares no problem but then you will have big problems registering it legitimately as you would not have the neccessary import/customs papers.

A guy I know imported a Mercedes this way and got into enough trouble that he considered it a good idea to leave the country for a while.

    Yes, good point!

With no purchase papers how can one register the bike!

Can a backhander settle this at the motor department?

I found a lovely 1300 Superfour for 200k in Kanchanaburi. It only had invoice papers.

My wifes friend at the local Dept of Land & Transport said that it would be impossible to register locally.

Another friend told me that for 100k it would be possible to get a proper green book in Bangkok. I know for a fact he has done this for several big bikes but his did come with all the proper import documents.

Everthing can be done if you are willing to pay the right money, my local dirt bike shop has been importing bikes in parts for years and has offered to do the same for a bike i am chasing at the moment, 100% legit as far as anything can be in LOS ;)

  10. Livin.. I'm really not sure what goes on in Phuket. It seems to be run like a wild west outpost. Legally the cops in Thailand are NOT allowed to even take your driving licence ,but they do.

The only people allowed to seize the bike for non-payment of tax is Customs. If the 3% tax is paid then you are allowed to own the bike and transport the bike. I didn't say ride it on the public road. All offroad bikes. moto-x, racers should have the tax paid. Any way a moot point for Phuket as they make up the rules as they go along :D

I dont think you would have any problem wit it on the back of a pickup.

But if your riding on the road and dont have a road registration your breaking the law, I would assume the police DO have the power to stop you breaking the law ?? Hence they can impound the bike for that reason, not (only) the customs / excise tax issue, but riding on the road without a road reg.

Thanks for that LOS, but i don't think i would risk it on the back of the pick up, the BIB at the check point at Tak are well know for being <deleted>. Back to the paperwork thing, i remember i had an XR250 and paid what was described as assembly tax, and was told to keep a copy to show the BIB even thought the bike had no plate and the worst they could do was fine me 200 baht.

I have just been told i can get a grey book for 70K and when and if i sold the bike later i would have to pay off someone in the transport office to a tune of 5K in order to get the book changed to a new owner, amazing Thailand :D

  11. If it were me..I wouldnt dream about outlaying ANY money untill the bike is in front of you fully registered and complient.

It seems from what I can understand about the emission tests as stated by those more knowledgible than me, is that older bikes have no chance of passing. Means what ever the fee is, its gone as its non refundable. Without the emsiision test pass you have a very expensive sculpture for your lounge room

Tend to agree with you the bike is a Pc 800, i had the same bike for 5 years in the UK and never thought i would get my hands on one in LOS its 20 years old and i guess from what you are saying it is unlikley to pass the emissions test, but as i said, my contact in CR said the bike DOES NOT have to go to BKK, i just need pictures of the bike and the usual masking tape graft of the chasis number etc. So the emission test would not be done unless its done locally ?

The emission test is based on year of registration... as the first time it will be registered is 2010 it needs pass current emission test before can be registered. Where that is done i have no idea As its an older bike it would be extremely unlikely to officialy pass the test, there fore any paper saying otherwise is obviously a fake and leaves YOU liable for fraud charges as well as the driving an illegally registered bike. A can of worms that can only lead in to deeper and deeper trouble for you. At least it would be free lodgings for an undetermied time??

My comment stands in my original answer....dont even think about spending any money untill it is all legally registered....... and sure as hel_l I would verify that with Motor registration also to be sure its not all fake.

far better to spend you money on a new Kawa even a 250 as you will then get more riding satisfaction than scared every time u take an illegal bike on the road.

Imagine what happens when u have an accident.....

bike made from parts must also be inspected by organized crime unit, usually at emision test center. hard to do legally in less than a month, que.

if you want to go illegal with this bike, as this clearly is, I would rather do the recycled honda dream thing at 20-30k baht

I already have a Kawa 250, this bike was intended for longer trips that's why i made the enquiry, i was quoted two months for the plate to be done, but i will ask again about the emission testing and its location as some people have already said its an older bike so it should be tested to be fully legal. I was told by the bike shop in CR when they have the plate i could go to the local transport office to check its legit on the computer, so the plot thickens.

  12. If it were me..I wouldnt dream about outlaying ANY money untill the bike is in front of you fully registered and complient.

  13. Guy's

I know this topic has been mentioned several times, but what is the very latest on getting a green book for an imported bike. I am interested in a Honda for sale in Korat, it was shipped in parts to LOS early this year, it is 800 cc but obviously has no plate, but has all the correct invoice papers in place.

I have spoken with our local bike shop in Chiang Rai and he has quoted me 135 K baht to get a plate, no need to send the bike to BKK just need pictures and frame number etc, he also suggested if i get the bike i would be best to get it hauled up by a carrier (approx 3K baht), otherwise i run the risk of having the bike impounded at the police check points or having to off the BIB.

Do these figures stack up correctly, also i thought the bike HAD to go to BKK, but my guy assures me the green book would be 100%

    Thanks in advance.

  14. FWIW, my Steed was legally registered in Nonthaburi, bought in Bangkok, and re-registered in my name down south in NST with no problems. I was even offered my choice of number plate.

My 1980ish Yamaha XJ650 Special is still being used by a Thai pal in NST, registered in NST, and the original book has been on sale in Bangkok. As yet, no takers...

    Hi Guy's

I am considering buying my first 2nd hand bike in LOS (others have been new) can anyone tell me the procedure, i am planning to take a trip to view and ride the bike and if it stacks up the owner has agreed to go to the transport office with me to change the name, before i hand over any cash.

My question is, the bike is in Tak and i live in Chiang Rai, at the transport office in Tak will they simple add my name to the green book and then i will have to go to the transport office in CR to get a plate or can i do the whole thing in Tak. Also apart from a letter of residence what other stuff will i need to take apart from cash that is?

    Thanks in advance.

  15. My first wife actually had breast reduction surgery, said she was sick of them getting in the way.

Some guys have all the luck,im sure Jubby will know a song about this.

man, Nothing sprung to mind. No songs anyway B) ...... Guess I'm cured or tired or something.

Nothing wrong with Coffee C35B as long as its 5 baht 3-in-1.

............. wait ..... I've just had a flash of inspiration.

Nice one Jubbs, but there is a song with these words in it (some guys/gals have all the luck),i just cant put my finger on it ,i thought you would know:unsure: .

Surprised you didn't know it Jubby, it was a Robert Palmer song but i am too young to remember it :whistling:

  16. Hi

If you still want a crf 450 i can import one for you the price is ca. 160.000,-- baht and the delivertime ca. one month maybe 3 weeks. if you have some questions please contakt me.

    Kindly regarts Thomas Bruestle

    Tonys shop

I contacted this chap to see if he could quote me for a Suzuki DRZ400SM or a Yamaha WR250X and he gave me prices of 139,000 & 135,000 baht for new 2010 bikes that had cleared customs and all paperwork in order!!! He said the DRZ400SM would come from America so I asked how, when the bike in USA is around 6,000USD (180,000baht), could he quote me 139,000 which included Thailands ridiculously high import tax. His reply was a bit confusing but something about knowing someone in the customs dept etc etc but also that the bike would come without a Suzuki sticker (?!) as it would also lower the tax???!!! Regarding payment, he told me I would need to pay 50% into his bank account and then the other 50% when the bike arrived to his beer/wine store in sisaket in around 4 weeks time. If anyone else buys one from him please could you let me know how it goes.

    He skybluestu,

I'm pretty sure that everybody knows how the story will go after you transfered the money. Trust me it will be very depressing, you probably get more satisfaction from your money if you buy some ridiculous expensive gifts for some complete strangers...

    Hey Skybluestu,

If you are thinking of buying expensive gifts for strangers as Richard suggested, can you put me down for that new Honda 250 please :jap:

  17. Never ridden a Ninja250 but it looks great and has great reviews, I've seen a couple on classifieds too for a very reasonable price. The D-Tracker and KLX are very similar bikes but the D-Tracker is a supermoto and KLX is dual-sport. They have the same FI engine but the D-Tracker is more street-orientated and as such has smaller wheels with street tyres, a 1inch lower seat and slightly different gearing.

All the best with whichever one you go for, Kawasaki have made owning a decent bike here much easier (and cheaper) since they started production 2yrs ago.

I have a KLX as i mentioned before and go out on a regular ride with a mate who has a D-Tracker, we both have the same mods, ECU, air filter, snorkel and pipes, straight line speeds are about the same topping out at 145 kmh, but he gets me in the bends with his Pirellis but then again there is not much in it. Bang for buck the KLX wins for me, with the right mods it has enough power and it will go almost anywhere, even with the stock tyres and still have fun on the twisty bits although my knee down days are long past but the bike does put a smile on your face. :D for not a lot of money.

Have you noticed if there's a noticeable difference in fuel consumption between the two? I'd expect the KLX to be slightly worse as it has different gearing and knobblies but I read a comparison recently where the KLX averaged 25 km's per litre while the D-Tracker got 37 km's per litre on the same trip, if correct that's a huge difference considering they are essentially the same bike.

They are pretty much the same, but mine does use more juice (maybe the way i ride) and i expect to put 20 baht more fuel in each time than my pal, but we both hit the yellow light at around 150 - 160 k which is a bit of a drag, i am looking for a bigger tank without having to tear everything apart but no joy yet :(

  19. For what it is worth, the more I ride my Ninja the more I love it. It is a great bike for riding around the North of Thailand. No complaints at all, so far. :)

I still like the Ninja's a lot VF. I have half a mind to buy one so that I don't have to keep putting so much wear and tear on the Ducati :D

Maybe slightly off topic but for those looking for a good all rounder you wouldn't go far wrong with this little gem for sale on TV classifieds in CM, they are pretty much bullet proof and spares can be had in CM at Dang Motorcycles.

    Link doesn't work...

    Oooops....

  21. Does anyone know what king of bike Dennis? was riding to Mae Chan the other day. Could put my feet on the ground, so I may want to take a look.:whistling:

Garry have a good one. See you on the flip side.

    Hi Scorpio

Concur with Sven's reply and have to say the Honda Degree is the most fun for the money item I have purchased in Thailand to date. Although after seeing Dave's BMW on the Sunday ride I am keeping my eye out for a BMW 650GS to add to the toy collection.

    Cheers

    Dennis

Dennis maybe what you should have said is that its the best fun you can have with your clothes on for the money :licklips: although i have seen you have lots of fun for a lot less money, OK it may involve the odd Tequila or two but fun non the less.

Jubby i have a KLX, if you fancy a blast to see what you get for the money you are welcome.

  22. You mean the small pretty ones you find outside bars of ill repute  or so i am told, or the nice flashing ones i have on the the front and rear of my bike so as to avoid less observant Thai drivers ??

  23. As a possible member of that "outlaw bunch" any day with a Y in it would be good for me :jap:

For me it is OK anyday except 21st of Aug because of the Hash and I am the hare.

But I would prefer a day when it is not raining!

    Can you arrange that KD?

    :blink::huh::blink:

Nah, I don't mess with the weather. I learned my lesson about that. We will get what we get. But we are expecting you and that outlaw bunch that you ride with to show up, rain or not.

Okay. We'll make it a "Y" day for sure. That really narrows it down and this is getting easier and easier.

Now, we just have to get a time sorted out. I know we can't schedule it for any time that one of the Thai romantic soaps is on the television. I hear Sven refuses to miss even one episode.

Well it looks like we have the 25th nailed on, early evening which i guess is around 4pm, what about about meeting at some place none of us ever go too :cheesy: , like Rico's place at Chiang Rai corner, i hear they do the best pizza in town these days................:partytime2:............no camera's please to protect the innocent !!!!!
