  1. Seen in Bangkok:

-You have seen these guys carrying rolls of fabric on their Vespa scooters... Once I saw a passenger sitting behind him... on the top of the rolls...

Another time with the same kind of load, a passenger lying down on the "floor" of the Vespa with his legs on the fenders... (and trying not to touch the break pedal)

-How to carry a heavy front door on a motocycle?

Vertically! The passenger had the door standing on his lap, his hands on both sides and his forehead putting pressure on the door to keep it straight!

  2. Don't show your name on the paperwork. Used stuff is OK but she can do it only once. I know a Thai guy who shipped his stuff from the US; he had done the same thing years earlier but the customs checked their files... He refused to pay anything and tried to get some help elsewhere...

Months later, he realized that he had no choice but pay the customs. During that time they had decided to increase the fine; he believes they punished him for being stubborn... 100,000 Bahts (in 1991) for a few appliances...

If you are planning to send your kids to an international school, check the costs before everything else! It's VERY expensive...

  3. But I haven't seen Black & Decker rechargeable batteries there.

Mine are a few years old, showing 'stains' and lack a full-capacity charge. I asume that there is a shelf-life to these things and mine are close to expiration. (I use a 110v charger, with step-down trafo, so I haven't cooked them)

Have you checked with their office in BKK? I went there years ago, I saw a showroom and lower prices...

    BLACK & DECKER (THAILAND) LTD.

51 Soi Sukhumvit 26, Sukhumvit Rd., Klongton, Klongtoey, Bangkok Thailand

Electric Tool, Hand Tool Manufacturer & Distributor

    Tel: 0-2259-8520-6 ... Fax: 0-2259-8529

  4. 99% of the men who live in Thailand are sex tourists of some type and the ones who claim not to be are liars or hypocrites.

    I'm not saying that this many men pay outright for sex;

What a joke! It shows the kind of people you frequent!

  5. Lotus + IT mall (Fortune Town Mall):

Subway Pra Ram 9 station, take exit 1.

Entrance (under construction) next to Pizza Hut and from there go to the top floor.

It's a small shop next to the lift. Open only in the afternoon. They don't have much, some old electric guitars and 2 or 3 new...

  6. I would have thought that one would line up there suppliers FIRST and then rent the shop unit!!!

It doesn't really work that way... Companies like Wall's or Nestlé, etc, look at your place before deciding if it's worth it for them to place their products, then it takes 2-3 days to get the first delivery.

Other wholesalers (rice, liquor, soups, etc...) are easy to find if you follow my advice. Many of them have shophouses close to large fresh markets and deliver; a few questions around the market and you get the answers.

  7. She could start her business by shopping at Makro. Better go at the opening in the morning. It's OK at the beginning but shopping there once a week is tiring when you have to carry dozens of boxes...

If her place is not too isolated, wholesalers will find her! They'll stop with their vans (water, snacks, rice, cigarettes, alcohol, spicy sausages... almost anything...). After a while she should be able to fill her shop only with these guys. If you are near a large fresh market, ask around, you'll find wholesalers able to deliver.

Only 10% on most of the stock...

15 to 30% on stationary. Kids always buy colorful pens, books... Good stuff at Makro.

Usually 10% on shampoos, soaps and other cosmetics; can go to 20% if she can find a wholesaler in Chinatown (they usually have a route and deliver once a week, I do not have their phone number anymore but you'll find them around the toys wholesalers in Chinatown).

50 to 100% on toys from Chinatown. Go there 3 or 4 times a year. Kids buy themselves most of the time from 15 to 200 Baht. Robots, small cars, dolls, balls...

20% on pharmacy (Makro or wholesaler in Chinatown); headaches, stomachaches, birth control pills, ointments...

WALLS ice cream, coca cola, bread Farmhouse, etc... call them...

Keep the place clean and well organized with an eye on small and expensive stuff. Put the fridge as far as possible from the door or people will never go around the store...

  8. If you have lived in that region, please tell us about your experience. I was wondering if similar phenomenons happened in Thailand and was also hoping that someone on this site had visited those fields.

I pm'ed you, I really don't think UFO sightings in North England have anything to do with Thailand or this forum.

Thank you for your PM but note that I never mentioned UFOs...

  9. But if you had lived in the Calder Valley in North England (I did) you wouldn't be quite so fast dismissing the subject. :o

Not something I'd like to discuss further. :D

Don't be afraid to be ridiculed by the booze and bargirls experts on this forum. I know, they prefer endless threads like we have seen in the last few months with some titles like "I boned her"..... And the other day someone was wondering why women avoid this forum!

Maerim, open a dictionary, you'll learn something about the word phenomenon...

  10. Phillippe's on Soi 39, about 500 meters off Sukhumvit. Low-key, quite, nice lighting, no loud music, not a busy area, run by a delightful French chef, dignified, and a first-rate, completely professional Thai staff. I've been going there for years and can't recommend it hightly enough. Just insist on sitting at one of the banquettes against the wall downstairs.

What's the average price of a main dish? Open for lunch?
