  1. Fly my country's flag?  No.  Maybe my state's flag generates some nostalgic yearning.  But, still, no.  Might as well raise a banner in Thai announcing "the farang and all his money live HERE."

I've never had a problem being robbed here. It might have something to do with my sign though.

  2. A little disappointed here.

Lot's of answers about my flag being lower or higher than the Thai flag and if the pole is short enough or long enough.

My original question was, are you proud of your own country as to display your national flag or you have just forgotten everything living the good life in Thailand?

I flew the US flag in front of my house for the first 3-4 years I  lived here until it finally wore out. Plenty of my neighbors are high ranking Army and Police and they never cared at all. I only flew the US flag so I never worried about height. US law stipulates that "International usage forbids the display of the flag of one nation above that of another nation in time of peace". If I was to fly both I would do so at the same height.

  3. I just got my shiny new Laney120w Combo. I'm available for Weddings, barmitsthingys. birthdays and noisy babies. I'll bring the 5 string and give them plenty of low B at 3-4 am..I chortle at the fool who said Led Zeppelin...

My noise problem was 5 chihuahuas next door. Tried talking nice to the lady and of course I was the a-hole for even mentioning it. I downloaded a sound clip of dobermans and pit bulls barking like they were killing something and played it through my window facing her house with my Laney CX P.A. system (345 watts rms per channel) every time they started barking. Problem solved. Now she keeps them in the house. Thais usually won't listen to reason and will only get mad at you. You have to "fight fire with fire" with them.

  4. What, no Southern biscuits

I really miss American-style buttermilk biscuits. I have had some passable ones here, but nothing really good for many years. The funny thing is that KFC used to sell them 20 years ago, but they never caught on with the Thais. Actually, Popeyes Fried Chicken did too, but they closed down after the 97 economic downturn in Thailand.

Biscuits at Popeyes in the airport. Popeyes is back! Yea baby!

  5. I have known many Thai women that would only give oral sex to a circumcised man for hygiene reasons. They have told me no matter how much you wash it is always smells. I don't know? Only repeating what I was told. I'm glad I'm smegma free and don't have that problem.

  6. I have been getting my beef from Surin Wagyu. Their Thai raised Wagyu beef comes frozen but is very good quality. They have a couple of outlets here in Surin and also some in Bangkok. The steaks I got from them were about 800 baht/kilo.

anymore info joe.i dont mind if its frozen as long as the steaks are a decent size,

    [gutsy boyo]10-12oz.and some fat.

They were not quite that big. They average about 250-270 grams (about 9 oz.). Nice marbling.

  7. So there you go then. Farang Connection open seven days a week selling "English Breakfast"( no grits please we are British) and Lorenzino's breakfast no longer on the menu for lack of interest.

    Who has their marketing correct?

The difference is the Farang Connection is in the main tourist area in the middle of town. Lorinzino's is on the outskirts of town away from the tourist areas. As they say, Location, Location, Location.

  8. JoeinSurin's comment "plain English breakfast" seemed a little negative. The comments about steak, pizza and Italian food were very positive. JoeinSurin seems to be American. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I am American. My "Farang Connection does a great English Breakfast" comment was not negative. My "plain English Breakfast" comment was meaning "lack of selection other than typical English Breakfast". I love a good English breakfast but it is nice to see other choices on the menu also.

  9. Sorry to say that my breakfast was far from plain. I imagine that you are not English, JoeinSurin.

The breakfast was very good. Just like home.

I chose the pie because that is what I wanted. Indeed it may have been microwaved, but how it was presented and what it came with was very good.

Making a salad or cooking a steak from scratch id possible because it is quick. The same with pizza.

I'm only saying what I thought. I will indeed find those other places when I go to Surin next. Any idea of their opening times.

I've only been up in Issan for a short while. Having been in Bangkok and Pattaya I just thought that these guys do a good job.

In post #79 I said "Farang Connection does a great English Breakfast". By "plain" I meant typical English Breakfast. Their English breakfast can't be beat. I eat it often.
