Here you are. It seems unlikely that some angel will decide to restart it (unless you do...) https://ecp.yusercontent.com/mail?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhostedimages-cdn.aweber-static.com%2FMjMwNjAxMw%3D%3D%2Foptimized%2F3ef60cc87d734afb8c4b32cc3ceae4c8.png&t=1755428028&ymreqid=59a1f762-a639-94d2-1cf2-0d00d6017200&sig=aeIgVxQsuaQCsWLyW8LL_w--~D Notice to All Members: Emergency Membership Meeting of the Chiang Mai Expats Club Date: Saturday, 30 August Time: 10:00 a.m. Venue: 3rd Floor, Duangtawan Hotel Chiang Mai (https://share.google/g1UEAeAxpDUgaBiK9) Agenda: 1. Election of a new Board of Directors 2. Establishment of a new partnership to assume organizational responsibilities under Thai Law 3. Alternatively, formal dissolution of the Organization Dear Esteemed Members, With the deepest respect and a spirit of thoughtful reflection, we address you concerning matters of great importance to our shared community. At the close of last year, the prior Board tendered its resignations, necessitating the rapid formation of an interim committee entrusted with guiding our organization into a new chapter. This committee, supported by a dedicated cadre of members, has pursued its responsibilities with earnestness and integrity, achieving meaningful progress and a genuine commitment to our collective welfare. However, we must acknowledge the enduring challenges that have shaped our current reality. The Club has experienced a steady demographic contraction within our membership, most notably a shrinking cadre of active participants from the Expat community in Chiang Mai. Compounding this, there has been noticeable hesitation among members to assume leadership roles and fulfill responsibilities essential to sustaining our organizational functions, despite repeated outreach from the presidency. Surveys conducted during this period indicate a waning interest in expanding activities and events, revealing a dissonance between our aspirations and the broader will of the membership. Consequently, the operational burden has fallen predominantly upon a small group of devoted individuals—an arrangement that is neither sustainable nor tenable in the long term. After careful and heartfelt consideration, the Board has reached a solemn and unanimous conclusion: under the present conditions, the continued existence of the Organization is not viable. It is with genuine regret that we must proceed with a formal dissolution. Please be aware that anyone objecting to the Dissolution of the club must be prepared to assume the legal role of the General Partner of the Partnership and have a full contingent Board of Directors in place and ready to assume control as of that day, most of the Board members will have or will be resigning that day. We extend our deepest gratitude to every member who has contributed time, effort, and spirit to our community over the years. Whether your involvement has been large or small, you have helped shape the fabric of our shared journey. To honor our commitments and with the utmost transparency, we will undertake all necessary steps toward an orderly dissolution, under our bylaws and applicable regulations. Further information will be provided as appropriate to ensure clarity, fairness, and respect for all involved. It is our sincere hope that the values and memories forged within this community will endure in your hearts and that the spirit of what we have built may find new and meaningful expression in your future endeavors. With the highest regard and deepest appreciation, On behalf of the Board of Directors 43 Samlan Soi 7 - จ.เชียงใหม่ 50200 TH Unsubscribe | Change Subscriber Options https://ecp.yusercontent.com/mail?url=https%3A%2F%2Fopenrate.aweber.com%2Fy%2Fo%2F%3Fl%3D1I6dI%26m%3DgLmDEGqsFRGCTjP&t=1755428028&ymreqid=59a1f762-a639-94d2-1cf2-0d00d6017200&sig=fFOFUc5TM677qWFujSUAZg--~D

On March 16, I posted about my experience using the Thai tax website to report UK pension income plus interest income from Thailand (see post quoted above). Along with the original submission I submitted scans of the usual forms from Bangkok Bank documenting the interest received and tax deducted. I did not send any documentation of the UK pension income. I said that I would report back if they approved my tax refund. I just received a message that my refund has been successfully approved and the cheque mailed to me. They did not request any additional documentation.

A couple of months ago I posted here to ask about what to put on the form where it asks for the Thai tax ID number of the payer of the income in the case that the payer is the UK government. Not knowing the answer, I decided to wait until March, in the hope that the situation would become clearer. I finally filed this month using the online system with the help of a Thai friend. I am describing my experience in the hope it may help others in a similar situation. I have been filing a Thai tax return since 2012, but this is the first time I have had to include foreign source income brought to Thailand. My assessable income consists of interest on deposits in Thai banks and UK old age pension. It totals a hair under 500KB. It turned out to be simpler than I expected. I entered the UK pension amount in part 1 of page 2 of the PND90 online website form. It then asks for tax withheld (presumably they are interested in Thai tax withholding, not others?). I entered zero because no tax was withheld either here or in the UK. The website then offers the option of it being foreign source income, which I chose. The website automatically entered the 100KB deduction allowed (but not more than 50% of the income) and subtracted this. It did not require a Thai TIN for the payer of the income. The website also automatically entered my old age (over 65) deduction of 190KB against my interest income. The various deductions (100KB + 60KB + 190KB) reduced my income to a hair under 150KB. Consequently, I do not owe any tax and should get back all the tax which was deducted from interest. I will post further here if this is actually successful, However, I have always received such refunds previously. I didn't declare non-assessable income, which in my case is US social security, since this is clearly excluded by the tax treaty. I did not attempt to claim foreign tax as a credit towards Thai tax under a double taxation treaty---I do not know whether or not this is possible with the current online system. I hope this experience is helpful for others in a similar situation.

I suggest going to Vinum Lector in Hang Dong. The location is shown on google maps. It is in the Star Avenue mall. They have a very wide range of interesting wines at generally very good prices. Ask the branch manager there, Davide (Italian I believe), for some recommendations based on your tastes and the food you will eat it with. As one example, they have Chateau Pontet-Fumet, a Saint Emilion Grand Cru, for only a bit over 1100B, if red Bordeaux wines are to your taste

I think you have misunderstood the question. I already have a Thai tax ID. I have been filing since 2012 (and always receive a refund of the tax automatically deducted from interest earned---I expect a refund this year also, which is as good a reason to file as any). My question is not about a Thai tax ID for me, but about a Thai tax ID for the UK government. I have tried the Revenue Dept. phone number for questions and they have no idea! I don't think I can go down to my local tax office in the name of the British government and ask them to issue a tax ID for them... Another poster on Asean Now has suggested I wait to file until March, when the situation may (possibly) be clearer. I think that is good advice, but I would still be interested in hearing from anyone who knows the answer to this question.

I have a question about filling out the Personal Income Tax Return (form ...90). I receive old age pension from the UK here in Thailand. I will declare it for Thai tax for 2024. The form asks for the Thai tax ID number of the payer. As far as I know, the UK government does not have a Thai tax ID. Does anyone know what number I should write there? Thanks for the help

Best Friend Visa does retirement extensions for a fee of 4K (in addition to the regular Immigration fee of 1900B). I have used them for years. They are very good and reliable

I also recommend Khun Song. I have been using his building services for more than 15 years. Pete Pad Thai: I have sent a PM to you with his phone number

Sub forum - restaurant reviews - Chiang Mai: Food for Thought
neilrob replied to Old Curmudgeon's topic in Chiang Mai
The restaurant is actually called Food 4 Thought, with the numeral in place of the word "for". There are two locations, the original, which is near the Phucome junction, and the new one which is on Bumrungrat Rd. Neither is in the Santhitham Circle area. The original is shown correctly on Google Maps. The new location does not appear to be on Google Maps, so might have closed. I have never eaten at the new location. I have eaten many times over the years (including recently) at the original. I recommend it. Quite a large menu with well prepared and generously sized soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps etc. Excellent breakfast dishes. They have vegan food if desired. Prices are very reasonable. The menu is available on the internet if you look at it on Google. -
Dr. Pawak at Kitcha Dental has done a number for me. I originally went to him, several years ago, after my previous dentist, at Ram, had told me that an implant in a particular location was impossible because of the small amount of bone left. He explained clearly how it could be done successfully. The implant has lasted well with no problems. He has since done others for me. Prices are higher than elsewhere, but I have trust in him, which is important

world wide income taxation update
neilrob replied to Presnock's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
You are right about this. Just the possibility of this happening will discourage wealthy expats and hence damage the economy
