  1. The shrines dedicated to Hindu gods or any other deities or spirits have nothing to do with Buddhism. But it is not forbidden for Buddhists to pay their respects there or pray for good fortune or make wishes. They are part of popular belief structures and supposed to be powerful. It's as simple as that.

I doubt that the Mormon boys will have much success. I have to ask if they looked exactly like this:

Just so I can stay away from them...

  2. I had a fast and painless experience with my retirement extension (800k based) at Suan Plu today. Arrived at 08:10, number 9 in line (seems I was lucky and got a queue number that was returned), processing started at 08:25, my number was called at 08:55. The process was quick, including the new photo taking and fingerprinting procedure. Obtaining a re-entry permit also proceeded well. Total time spent: 1 hour, 45 minutes, 30 minutes less than last year. I have to say that it seemed unusually quiet, many seats available. It started to get busy when I left - good that I'm an early riser :) .

  3. I just read a fasinating article about a North Korean restaurant in Phnom Penh, complete with NK Music and NK waitresses. As a long time student of Kim Jung Il's wacky world, I was super excited when I read that there was also a branch in Bangkok!

My research only reveals that it is close to the NK Embassy in Pattanakarn district. (where is that?)

What can you tell me about this place? Any info is appreciated especially an address or phone number.

I must say that I am desperate to visit as I will be returning to farangland for an extended period of time on April 20th.

Thank you for any information you can give me!

Update: a link to find it on Google Earth:

  4. I bought a Dazer-II. It works with the dogs who annoy me here but it doesn't work on all dogs. Trained police dogs will not be deterred and some dogs just cannot hear it. Worth a try, though.

If you're dealing with packs you might need more than one :) . And carry that big stick, also.

  5. With the VAT added in, UBC and True internet always have a few satangs trailing baht owed.

Now, it normal for most businesses to round up, but most aren't monthly contracts, with millions of subscribers. What the local True clerks do is to take the extra satang, but give me a reciept for the amount on the bill, not the actual amount recieved.

Is this what everyone else experiences?

Yup, it sure is. Solution: pay by credit card and it will be the exact amount.

  6. Your mobile should have an option to enable or disable sending of the caller ID. Go to the settings menu for calls, disable it and call another mobile to check if it works. This is country-independent, but the roaming network must support it.

Not supported in Thailand, if shut caller ID of, calls will not go through!

Just tried, the call did go through, but the caller ID was showing even though it was switched off. Thanks for making me aware of this :) .
