...some folks may be forced into this situation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, somebody, please... The max fine for overstay is 20,000 baht, is it not? And that includes being put on the blacklist which means you cannot enter Thailand for the next 5 or 10 years? Does it include any kind of jail time or similar restriction of personal freedom? Or do you pay the 20,000 baht fine, get the blacklist stamp in your passport, and fly off to your home country waving goodbye to Thailand for the foreseeable future?

I just got a haircut. Friday the 20th at 1 pm. So, for now, barbershop open. My gym was closed with government printout taped to the door...until April 1. At which point, I assume, it will most likely be extended.

Yes, I am thinking our only option now is to wait until immigration gives us a signal on how to proceed. From the news, they are aware of the situation and have plans to discuss/devise a solution. This is uncharted territory for the world. There is no game plan and everywhere it is step by step into the unknown. We must all cultivate patience and understanding, compassion and good will.

This is probably already on here but if not> I just returned from Mae Sai. You cannot enter Burma that way at all. Yesterday I arrived and they said, oh, Burma just changed the rule this morning and you now need a visa to enter even just to get a stamp and come back. So I did an e-visa overnight and went back this morning and they said, oh, the border is closed, no one can enter. So that's the news, folks. If you're in need of a stamp, you ain't gettin' it there. I'm on an 0-type visa, by the way. Cheers....

My two cents (worth about a penny). I have a Breville espresso machine to make my coffee. For a long time, I have been drinking Hillkopf French and Italian roast Arabica beans. But I was never that satisfied but since Arabica is the "best" and the shop is so close to my house, I stuck with it. I've had the Peaberry, I've had the Black Thai, City, etc... I was never that satisfied but the price is very reasonable and I just figured well the heck with it. Anyway, long story short, for the last month or two I have been drinking their Supremo roast (might be named "Supreme" and not "Supremo"...can't remember but it's a black bag) which is actually a Robusta bean and only 80 baht for 250g. It is delicious....smooth, rich, and I want to say with kind of a chocolatey/mocca taste. No bitterness in my case. I was amazed at how much smoother and richer tasting than the Arabica they have on offer especially since Robusta is supposed to be inferior. Your mileage may vary but I am finding it delicious and far better than all the above Arabica roasts I mentioned.

Finally went to PPS and just for your info they have a second place on Hang Dong Road which is were I went, Going to wards the airport they are on the left hand side before Tesco Lotus and before Dr. Morgan's HCMC clinic ... Did a wonderful job in just 2 hours and at a very reasonable price ...3,000 Baht for all 5 windows including an 8" strip at the top of the front window. Super efficient! Wow! can't believe what bad shape my old film was in... Can't believe the difference... I can actually clearly see from all directions now..555 ... Thank you again for all your help
Thanks for reporting back; very helpful! If I may ask, did you only put the dark strip at the top of the front and zero film on the lower part of the windshield? Or simply an additional darker strip at the top while the lower portion has a lesser tint to it? Thanks!

3M Crystalline เชียงใหม่ by แอร์พอร์ท ฟิล์ม

https://maps.app.goo.gl/PKfNERrB8jPi9HZh6I got the 3M Crystalline C70 on my front windshield from Airport Film Center. Its surprisingly clear at night and does a great job to reduce heat in the daytime. The installer did an excellent job. no bubbles, no blur. just pefect. The big 3M shop next to Grandview / across from Maya did not have this light color in stock and would not order it. I highly recommend 3M Airport Film Center. (Both shops had the same prices). keep in mind that the films from US usually have product number that indicates how much visible light transmits through. So 70% american film means 70% light / 30% dark. Some of the Thai brands swap the numbers around and 70% would mean 30% light / 70% dark. When you choose your film, be careful to confirm that you are getting the product that you want. Also important to know that the infrared light is where the real heat comes from. So check the detailed specs. Thats why i forked over the cash for 3M Crystalline. Visibly quite clear, but blocks >90% of heat-generating infrared.
Thank you for the info. I'm assuming what you put on was 70% light/30% dark? And no problem seeing at night?

Please let us know how it goes and what the practice room is all about.
Cheers!

Please post back what your findings are. I am also in need of changing mine. I really wish there was a way to have some tint on the front windshield in the day....and not at night. The tint on my front is not strong and so not a great hindrance at night. However, it is still darker than no tint at all and indeed does make it harder to see at night. Of course, no tint at all and the daytime becomes very uncomfortable. I'm surprised there is not some work-around?

While it may be counterintuitive, softer is not always better. I find the most comfort with a saddle that allows the majority of my weight to rest in my two sit bones.
Also, a road bike coach used to tell us if our butts hurt, we needed to pedal harder. ????
I ride with this saddle and even after two or three hours I find that I have not thought about the saddle or my butt for the entire ride.
Sent from my iPad using TapatalkIt's a bummer this saddle is not on Lazada. But then again, the cost is $120 or more where it IS available so if it isn't a happy marriage with your gluteus maximus your out a lotta crank for nothin'. Personally, though I'll admit to being pretty ignorant on it, I find the pricing of bike saddles up there with men's razors and printer cartridges. Really doesn't seem there could possibly be all that much to this inanimate, quite simple piece of equipment. I think "they're" taking the piss out of us. Am I missing something?

What exactly is fueling all this? The problem getting income letter verification perhaps?

I briefly touched on re-entry permits with Ubon Joe in a topic yesterday but failed to ask what is required to get one. I may go to immigration in Chiang Mai before my flight or if I am lazy and risk-prone I may just opt to get one at the airport before flying out of Suwannaphumi. What is required, please? (I have an 0 visa based on marriage).
Thanks!
-
Thank you, UJ. I'll give it a whirl a few days prior to departure at immigration.
Cheers, BAmboozled.

Great news, thank you! Is that something done at the airport just prior to departure or is it something to take up a few days earlier at immigration in Chiang Mai?

Hiya folks, please lend me your expertise. I just re-entered Thailand on May 29 with my multiple entry O visa based on marriage expiring on May 30. I got a new 90 days as expected and so far so good. On July 1st, I will be leaving the country again for 2 weeks. So upon my return I believe I will be without a visa. And here starts my question.
Can I get a re-entry stamp/permit/extension/whatchamacallit before leaving which will keep my 90 days (that started on May 29) live?
Or, do I come in on a 30 day stamp (and if so do I need an exit ticket?) and re-exit in that 30 day period to do my visa (HCMC or Savannakhet)?
Or, do I need to hustle now and do the visa before July 1? (not keen on the necessary "hustle")
Or....? Any other ideas?
Thanks all!

My Beer Friend...there is a branch at the beginning of Chang Moi Rd, one on Huay Gaew across from Maya (or could be the canal road intersection, I forget) and one on other on Chang Klan, I believe. They brew their own beer. Check it out, good stuff. You can search on internet for it.

This pisses me off. She is a legal adult. Why are her parents being called? I am 50. If I get stopped by immigration...will they channel my dead mother to ask her permission?

Some thais dont listen and especially to foreigners or anything that could be deemed coming from a foreign land like road rules, common sense, morals, science, etc. These certain Thais are lazy and seem to have trouble with simple thought. It appears too difficult or something like they have been brought up with out any education or discipline and believe getting drunk and taking cheap drugs is education enough and as grown up as they need to be.
It sort of seems for some its easier to pretend to be all knowledgable than actually be so.
I could give so many examples of stupid situations that i, my wife or the rest of the family have decided to intervene and add some percpective, opinions or common sense and such to better a situation and its all farang to them! I apparently dont know Thais, Thais are special, Inventors, scholars... blah, blah... Brainwashed more like it!
People like this cant ever follow rules or have sympathy, empathy for another before a tragedy when its all a game.
Im amazed that in all my long years here i think people are actually getting worse. Its the governments lack of care, over the top religious influence and especially a lack of education which in itself would lead to self reflection that might fix things up but lets face it the roads are pretty jammed, not a lot of useful land for sale. Its waaayyyy over populated.
Maybe the government is willingly accept thinning the herd.
This is definitely true. Except I believe the Thai reference is unfair and one should instead insert "people/person/any country." Thai folks and Thailand in no way have an exclusive on this. This behavior is everywhere and is part of the human condition, sad though that may be. The particulars might be different from country to country but not the overall mechanism. One thing a foreigner has is a different perspective and many things seem clear when living in a "new" country, things that go on in our own countries but to which we have become inured and blind. Same same but different.

This is utterly and totally heart-wrenching... I cannot imagine the depth of this mans grief. I am brought to tears.
I think people posting comments on here about what he should have done to prevent this, and what Thai folks should or shouldn't do, don't perhaps understand the role of poverty in all this. I believe most of the population has very little income. When you are dirt poor, you don't have options. You can say all this guy had to do was control his tires...but when you are poor and you need this job like you need to breathe, you don't go complaining to the boss that the tires on the truck are compromised. You shut your mouth and do the job you were told to do. You learn to shut down critical thinking and not dwell much about your miserable plight. You have to hedge your bets on hope which is all you have. Yes, you should wear your seat belt. But learning that takes education which takes money and free time to study...which takes away time from work. And it goes against the whole survival attitude you have learned that hope will get you through. Perhaps the family was with him because that is their only transport. When you are poor, you cannot afford a car, or motorbike, or extra bus ticket (2!) to send the family back home. Or perhaps their home is so miserable it's more comfortable and less deadening to ride around in the truck. It's too easy to pass judgement not knowing, and not appreciating, the facts of another persons situation.

Heartbreaking. Wear a helmet...always. I don't know the facts but I saw the dash cam vid and the kids look relatively ok. I think the mother must have hit her head. A helmet would have saved her life....I assume. Check your mirrors before turning. I often forget. I was thinking....I'll bet a lot of bad driving of cars here comes from the fact that most people probably learn on a scooter first. And then when they get a car continue to do maneuvers as if still on a scooter. Things that you can get away with on a scooter, for the most part, but not in a car.
RIP...so saddened by this tragedy.

I think if something in the engine was getting caught on something you would not still be driving it, IMHO. It would be broken. Perhaps the bike stand is missing the spring that holds it up?
JonWilly, are you still watching this thread? Do you have any idea what might be going on with my bike? Even starting out in 1st gear, it's almost as if you are starting out in 2nd...the lack of low end torque. I don't think it can be the engine at this point since that has had the once over. It's a 125 after all, not a 50 or 70cc plus it's now bored slightly over. This lack of power seems (seems!) to get worse as the bike warms up. That's perhaps why K. Oud did not notice it. It is also still cutting out when cold...so right there something is not right. It's got to be a timing or carb issue....frustrating. I'm not knocking Oud...something is still not quite right with the bike.

Could be the chain hitting the guard?
I got the bike back with a new piston installed. Cylinder has been re-bored slightly over, I guess. Another 4000 baht but that included a bunch of new body panels, foot pads, etc... The bike is in much better shape....but I still feel the lag in response when giving gas. The bike bogs down at first and then plays catch up for a second or two. That's MY take. However, having had all this work done and K. Oud says the clutch is fine, I have to suspect that I am a bit nuts. Could also be the carb that is out of whack though again K. Oud said he cleaned it. But it's true that carbs can be notoriously finicky. What I need now is to test drive another 125 Dream for comparison.
Visa extension Refused
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
Cheers, folks. What is needed for the 60 day extension based on O-visa (married to Thai wife)? Is financial proof and TM30 required and if one doesn't have these? I've always gone to Savannakhet or Saigon in the past for the visa and border hop every 90 days. I tried to cross into Burma last week to renew and even had a Myanmar visa but they closed the border practically in front of me: no entry allowed. My current 90 day period will be up April 15.
Thank you all! Hang in there!
