  1. As I've been a part of 'business' in Thailand, I must say it's NEVER EASY. Don't even think about putting up anything unless you are sure about all the details. The most common mistake is to involve the family and pay extra since it feels so 'cheap'. Every baht counts if one is to survive in the business way.

I have some ideas for free:

    1. Buy something and sell it in your home country - always an easy option since now the prices for logistics have dropped significantly

    2. Esaan don't have too many internet shops like f.e. Chiang Mai so the return is quite good. 1-1.5 million would do the trick. 10K for rent, 15K for electricity, 15K for staff, income between 80-120K a Month (after expenses). Not great but one can survive.

    3. Be a teacher...I know, there are plenty...but its income. No risks. Or get some other job where they need a native Briton (or wherever you were from).

Cheers! Bar I recommend only to those who can run them sober.

Number 2 is not an option.Spend all that money so people can sit and pay 10 baht an hour,

its the same as having a games place 10 ps2s 10 tvs loads of joysticks because the Thai guys bust them all playing footy games , not worth even thinging about it,

    all the best

  2. you can get a nice apartment for 8000 baht a month+bills (600-800), food can be as much as you want or not want to spend 100baht +.

travel cost is very cheap local skytrain or underground moterbike taxis,

    asdl 599 baht a month,100.00mbps.

apartments tend to charge more for electricity than if you had a house and your own meter, and some have just one fee for water,at my last place it was 150 a month and 25 baht for collecting the rubbish.

  3. Pepper spray is ok as long as its not windy, It can be blown back in your face and then the real trouble starts.

Its better to use a pepper gel spray ,this sticks to the attackers face and alot less chance of it landing on you.

  4. At my school in Ang-Thong media kids did have the contract, they paid 35000 plus apartment rent 2000, but not electric and water the apartment eletric is very expensive , the teachers that worked at my school did 19 hours a week but had to attend 8am till 4pm and sit around the staff room doing little ,then the school asks that as your not busy could you please just do this and that, also an extra was gate duty and morning talk once a week ,

oh also mediakids hit them for 500 baht amonth for the so called teacher licence that they never saw.

this is not a name and shame mediakids did look after the teachers well and payment was on time each month ,

its the school that puts you in the postion of doing more for free.

  5. For the first time in 4years i was asked by police to show them my passport,

14 of them walked into a very quite hotel in Ang-Thong ,made a be line for me and my mate ,asked for our passports ,we both said that we didnt have

them on us , and i explained mine was in the car , 2 of the police men then chatted in thai and then asked to pose for a photo with us both,

what was wierd , they asked for a 2nd photo and made my mate shake hands using his left hand , and said its the boy scout way?

    colino

It is my understanding that shaking with the left hand is an insult........the left hand is used for cleaning up oneself with the water sprayer in the right hand while using the Hong Nahm. Maybe the Police decided to just insult you rather than take other action because you didn't have the passport.

Yeah i understand that in many places in the world that is so , but why would the want a photo of them shaking hands

    (the boy scout way

  10. I would imagine that if the person in question has a conviction for a sexual assault on a child, he would be on the sex offenders register and the UK Police would know where he is.

If the UK authorities thought the guy was a threat, they would probably inform the Thai authorities.

If it wasn't a sexual assault, leave the guy alone. He's served his time.

If the guy was on the sex offenders register,he can be refused permission to travel and have his passport revoked,

just as they have done with Gary Glitter.

If he is not on the register and just an ex crim leave him be, he has served his time

  11. I think they changed it from 7 days to 24 hours to report to immigration, anyway thats what a guy at my place was told when he quit last month,

He had to go get a tourist visa (60 days) from Lao, becareful you could end up with a big overstay fine (500baht a day upto 20,000 max)

Ps i am sure some one will correct me if i am wrong
