Ps in answer to the OPs question ,easy its called pride, some people moan about the Thais and losing face well alot of farangs here are just the same they dont want to admit they messed up and go home dreding hear the words I told you so from friends and family that have let them sleep on the sofa. colino

Try for a Non immirgrant multi O visa ,this will give you 90 days at a time , then just do a visa run on the 89th day and get another 90 days its valid for a year so if you do your visa runs right you end up with 15moths in Thailand, You should get this type with ease,

I forgot to mention playing back through the phone as said by blindtigar

all new phones come with usb cable and software so its easy to add music from your PC

or you can just drag and drop the files onto the memory card,

I also have a LG cookie the sound on it is not brill and it didnt come with a memroy card and has cheap head phones ,

what ever phone you buy just make sure its got a good memory card and head phones ,or you could end up spending more money on upgrading, ask around your friends and see what they have and try them out ,,,,,colino

With nokia the camera lens is a good one, mine also has a built in dictionery that translates and says the word

Iv seen my phone on sale here in Big c for 9000 baht but shop around for the best prices ,

As i said before make sure they include all the bits in the box and not try to add on the card as extra ,colino

I have the Nokia 5800 express music ,, comes with a 8gig micro sd card and a great set of head phones

8gig is plenty big enough for me but I could buy a 16gig card

My nokia is really easy to use (touch screen with short cuts to the music),

Free nokia ovi maps so it acts like a sat nav just download the country you want , also lots of free apps

To help get more music on line but all i do is transfer mine from pc to phone ,

the new nokia suite is 10 times better than the last one

I am using an Edge modem that I brought for 1199baht and its great on DTAC but slow on 12call.

I have used this modem in the UK on Tmobile and orange but not on O2,

it comes with a lot of the major networks world wide built in.

What I like is being able to swap between networks for the promotional packages

My aussie mate has the Acer that you can slot a sim in and reckons it works 100% once set up

Or you could call travel agents as soon as they open , when i had to pay for a Qatar flight they stung me at heathrow and when i checked with other airlines they wouldnt do me any favours either ,,

But I have used Southall travel (just google them) before and got a late ticket ( 2 days notice ), they just emailed me their account details and I paid the cash in at my local bank , so they could verify the payment then they sent me my E ticket,

For reasons of thier own they told me they do not like to take card payments on late booking

This might be a daft question but has he got Travel insurance , if so call a good internationl hospital and then contact the insurance company ,as long all the info is right they will pay ,,,

What I mean by all the info being correct is that when he took the policy out he declared any ongoing medical conditions he had at the time plus what meds he was on ,,

ps a cheap option as mentioned before is get to a Thai gov hospital ,, a lot less expencive a bed on a open ward can cost from 200 baht a night upto 1200 baht for a private room and the treatment is cheaper ,

the prices are what i have paid in gov hospitals in Ang thong Rangsit and khon kaen

Sounds like a case of Chinese Whispers, if these changes had gone through the visas forum would be buzzing.

A few thoughts:-

A Visa on Arrival IS 1000 Baht, but only available to a select few countries, mostly from the Indian sub continent, these do indeed give you 15 days. Since Jet is an Indian airline that's likely where the confusion has arisen.

A Visa Exemption which is what you're talking about is a totally different animal, is free and gives you 30 days (at the airport), available to a much larger list of nationalities including UK.

These is a requirement to have (IIRC) 20,000 Baht to cover your costs, but I know of nobody who's ever been asked to show it, not a new rule.

right here goes I am at Heathrow now 06.40am 8th march

i have just had a 20 minute delay checking in for my flight with Jet airways because they have been told that all visas on arrivals costs 1000 baht and we must show that each traveller has a minimum of 10,000 baht , jet airways staff said they had a memo yesterday saying that the 30 day visa on arrival has been changed to 15 days ,, so at the moment they are just telling all passengers that are going to LOS ,, about the changes and 1 staff member told me that the overstay has gone up to 1000 baht as well,,,

So over to you guys does anybody know if this is true or just more paper pushing gone wrong ,

The true story is any expats living in Thailand and getting either thier pension or claiming sick benifts or getting DLA, and a few other benifits .

Would have received the cold weather payments that the goverment payed out this winter ,25 pound per payment,

in Derbyshire they have paid out 3 cold weather payments so far,

Its dead simple from the moment you get off the plane and not even got to customs ( to many cigs scam) and when you get outside ,( taxi cons )

you are a walking target for every con going they get you one way or another everyone gets conned.

no matter what they say , its just the amount you get conned out of 5 baht or 5mil baht you have still been conned

and this goes on

until you get back on the plane to go home (duty fee scams)

every week the same thing happens only the names change.

I have been with girls when there farang boy friends have called and they all seem to say the same,

Its like a script ,Dont beat yourself up over it , Just move on a little wiser and eyes open,

Get up to the Flowerpot, Exeter or The Peacock for some decent beer. If feeling a little "homesick" for Thailand, possibly pop into The Tiger Vaults, as there may be some Thai girls in there,(with boyfriends/husbands), so if you are travelling with the wife/girlfriend there may be someone she can talk Thai with, instead of just your self. The landlord visits Thailand on a regular basis as well.
