  1. Sorry can't really remember where. I was wandering around lost and just stumbled on a young girl in a tiny stall. There are plenty selling for 13500 tho so you can no doubt haggle from there.

Interestingly one guy offered me thai new for 15K after some haggling. He showed me the thai box all sealed up ready to go. It seemed so much cheaper than other places I wasn't sure he was legit tho (maybe a refurbished model or something.) Otherwise would have pulled trigger on that with 1 year warranty.

Don't like the sgs2 colours (crazy saturation) and obviously poorer res. I actually have the opposite problem with brightness - when reading in dark room would like the screen to go a bit duller than it does. No problem with brightness outside .

  2. yeah screen of nexus is main selling point over sgs2. Miles better.

No problems with my mbk 13200 nexus. Young girl selling said their cost price was 13k so if you believe her the closer you get to that the better.

Got extended 2000 mah battery from http://www.ebay.com/itm/120832462058?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649. Came quickly, virtually no added girth, but adds noticeable life. Recommend.

Not sure how many roms you actually need, but there are plenty for nexus if that's your thing. I think most would be just fine with stock ics and a launcher of their choice. Although it is useful to be able to modify/add the bottom softkeys to your liking (and add long press functionality)

Great phone and an absolute steal for 13kish (although taking a risk with warranty)

  3. All very nice in their own way , but the question that flashed through my mind was , is it a wise move to now buy a new Symbian phone when its future regarding OS support updates etc , could be bleak sad.png What do you think ?

As owner of N8 since launch I think you'd have to be mad to buy a symbian device now tbh. Supposed support until 2016 (actually think they changed that to 2015) but it's obvious nokia and app developers have no interest in symbian.

As for build quality of n8 in particular my bottom plastic cap broke off within a couple months from regular use.

I would either get a WP 7.5 device at that price point (you can put nokia drive on all WP devices I believe)

Or spend a little more and get MBK 13.5K nexus (can install sygic offline maps) or 10K one v like GS said

  4. Nokia Belle device (C7). Very happy with it.

Half price than iPhones, Samsung Flagships.

Advantages: High built quality, fantastic sound system, 5-Band 3G for world travel, better RF reception, best GPS, free worldwide offline navigation with regular map updates, better battery than most smartphones, slick and small for my front pocket.

Disadvantage: Not many games, a phone for adults only. smile.png

Today I would buy a 701 or wait for the 808 Pureview.

    N8 here.

Agree with most the advantages and obv add camera in N8's case. Not really gps though as it is seriously lacking in points of interest and map detail compared to google maps. Can install hacked sygic on android too which is offline and supposedly good.

Disadvantages: Belle is an improvement but symbian still well behind ios and android in user experience imo. Obviously lack of apps and the ones it does have are generally inferior to the IOS/droid versions. Phone is pretty sluggish with it's outdated 680mhz processor and weeny ram. QT apps take an age to open for example, and the portrait qwerty is infuriatingly sluggish (not to mention extremely hard to type on). Random restarts where phone says please insert sim card - My friends does the same and nokia shop confirmed this is not uncommon. Native browser is STILL so mind blowingly bad I am embarrassed for nokia.

Prob gonna pick up a nexus and keep n8 for cam/gps/back up phone

  5. Pretty uninspired and dissappointing cheap plasticky build imo. HTC one x looks a lot nicer build. Was waiting to see if this was any good before pulling trigger on the 13500 nexus. After seeing it decided on the nexus only to find out it has NO warranty which makes it a pretty risky purchase... ahh decisions.

  6. Nice, might pick up a nexus at that price. Do these imports generally come with a warranty?

Battery looks a little shady but I see they sell an official samsung 2000mAh extended one which will help. Camera bit weak too but not too worried about that.

  7. Nice review and best of luck to you. If your experience with Samsung is anything like mine, you will need a very expensive repair right after the warranty runs out. Then, when they change the model, support will stop altogther and you'll have to throw it on the junk heap where it will land along side my 2-1/2 year old $400 top-of-the-line YP-P3 32 GB MP3 player.

I would be delighted to hear from you in about 14 months.

lol funnily enough my samsung tv developed a giant line down it at precisely 14 months. In saying that my mate has two Hp monitors with similar lines and my 26K dell monitor also developed random lines but thankfully had a 3 year warranty. So I won't hold it against samsung

  8. I have read samsung has listened to battery complaints and is including a '24 hour battery' in the sgs3. OTOH I've also read it's gonna be super thin which doesn't quite add up. Probably all just wild rumours.

I'd at least wait until they release the SGS3 specs which can't be far away now, and decide from there. If SGS3 batt is not big or replaceable etc I'll prob pick up a 2nd hand sgs2 myself and throw on that extended battery for it.

  9. Agree with the gist of nisa and tallguy's posts. Irish guys behaviour certainly poor (regardless of what happened previously and he has admitted this.) And security guards behaviour more than likely poor as well (without having seen the full video.)

Quite amazing the amount of posts and drama on this pretty unexciting event (are some of you full time TV posters?)

  10. If they raised it to 50 baht they would surely see a massive drop off in customers. Well over half my taxis are easy walking distance but I'm being a lazy sod. A 50 baht fare gives me just enough incentive to walk it. And surely the average thai is even more sensitive to that sort of price hike given their earn.

  11. that only proves how overpriced apple iphones are ,they are inferior hardware sold at inflated prices

apple was and still is selling phones with not the most up to date spec ,its no wonder they can report huge profits

samsung are selling a technologically superior phone at a lesser price

GS2 is just better on so many levels that when u hold them side by side the iphone looks like a phone from a few years earlier

huh? Last I checked the 4s is blowing away the sgs2 on benchmark tests. Maybe it's that horribly cheap plasticky build quality of the SGS2 making it feel advanced? 4s has a smaller screen as a design decision, other than that it feels a lot more premium than the sgs2 (and case materials lot more expensive i presume)

And I prefer android btw before the fanboys come out.

  12. Cheap means low margin, hence the bleakness, Nokia sold about half as many phones as Apple in Q4 ( 19 million vs. 37 million). Nokia lost money, Apple made so much they'll have to give it away later this year (dividend). Apple makes a lot of money on each phone they sell, apparently Nokia loses a little bit on every phone they sell. Nokia, I assume based on all they've said publicly, wants to sell higher-end phones.

Not necessarily. If it's 3K cheaper to make a WP7 phone than an android one giving the same user experience, then you can sell it 3K cheaper with the same margin (doesn't apply to mugs who buy phones on specs alone.)

Nokia are probably gonna be pretty aggressive with their WP pricing as they try to gain a foothold with WP.

Yes we all know Nokia is struggling - hence moving to wp, not because of it.

  13. I still don't know what the selling argument for Windows Phone might be... why would anyone buy this? If "because it's cheap" is the only answer, I see a bleak future ahead. "Because it's almost as good as Android" doesn't sound too convincing either...

If by 'cheap' you mean runs smoother than android on a device with half the specs - well yes, you'd be right, and I'm not quite sure why that paints a bleak picture for you.

  14. lumia 900 is coming out soon Mjo if u didn't know - http://mynokiablog.com/2011/12/15/nokia-lumia-900-render-shes-looking-sexy/comment-page-1/#comments

I'm gonna wait for that one with bigger screen, better camera and nfc. Let us know how the 800 is tho if u pick it up.

Symbian was pretty <deleted> before but its actually pretty good with belle now (and especially with this custom belle I'm running on my n8 runs nice and fast)

  16. My old phone died a few weeks ago so I had a look on the internet for cheap phones. I then wandered into a shop and told the girl which phone I wanted. The girl looked perplexed and asked why I only wanted that one when I could have some new fandangled phone that does everything but wash the dishes.

She was even more perplexed when I said that all I need is a phone that I can call and text, and answer when it rings, but it must have an alarm to wake me up in the morning.

I'm far from a neanderthal as I am on the computer all day but I can't for the life of me understand why someone would want to be a slave to technology every moment of their life.

I suppose what really started to turn me off all these new phones was when I'd meet up with friends for beers and they'd all spend most of their time playing around on their phones. I just found it to be extremely rude and anti social. So the phone stays in my pocket until I am alone and can then call back. I refuse to let it rule me as it does to others.

Though if you need all the gizmos for work then go for it. But not this little duck.

lol, couldn't agree more. I swear some people have their face glued to some kind of screen (computer, tv , cell phone, tablet) 95% of their waking hours.
