  1. "A fact is something you can verify, you're providing unfounded claims"

This is complete rubbish when used in context of "I know for a fact". I know for a fact I just went and looked in the fridge. Can I verify it? well no. But I can assure you it is a fact.

Yes, I certainly agree to disagree

  2. What is the point in going back and forth trying to argue that the PAD are paid or not?

I think that it would be naive to think that some don't receive money, and the PAD themselves admit that their guards are employed.

Yet we have poster A stating that they have seen ALL PAD receiving money, and then poster B stating that NO PAD receive money.

Until the very unlikely event that evidence (and hearsay does not count as evidence) proving either way then this argument will have no end.

Anyway, whether or not they are protesting because they are paid is not important. What is important is that they ARE protesting.

    Agreed. There is no point.

I make no claim as to how many are paid. I simply know for a fact that SOME are. This is obviously impossible to believe without a video tape of the money exchanging hands however.. I mean TIT right, surely no one is getting paid...

  3. "So I don't believe you and ask for evidence"

And what form would this evidence take? Like I say they don't give out receipts. I'd give you witnesses, you'd say they are lying.

I suggest you get out more and the evidence will hit you between the eyes...

Bored of this conversation now. Have no interest in proving what I (and most people) know to be fact. Next you'll want me to prove the sky is blue. Byeeee

  4. "Then don't make claims you can't prove simple as that"

wow. I honestly find it hard to believe people don't know the PAD are paying people to go. Do you talk to ANY Thai people at all? Do you ever leave the comfort of these forums?

They ain't giving out receipts dude, but they sure as hel_l are giving out money. Anyone who think otherwise is hopelessly naive

  5. please,

do somebody have trusted sources of informations or proof that PAD is paying protesters?

I'm guessing you don't know a lot of Thai people in BKK?

I know one group of 4 girls offered 2K baht to go, my friends GF was offered 600, and a guy in this apartment 700. It is everywhere...

Is it illegal to pay people to protest??? I sure wouldnt risk my life for 600bt a day if I didnt believe in the cause.

Never said it was illegal, don't care whether it is or not tbh. Just stating the facts.

I'm sure 600 baht isn't a lot of money to you, however, it is to a lot of Thai people.

And yes, it is rather rich reading about all the PPP vote buying when we all know everyone else is doing it as well. TIT after all

  7. the thai government is not democratically elected because of all the vote buying that has taken place and other irregularities. if the pad did not have broad support in the population they would have been chased away a long time ago. the whole thing the pad is doing now is to keep the government from changing the constitution to give them a legit platform before the courts will throw them out and disband the parties involved .too bad the courts are so slow.in any case this is a struggle of the thai people to move away from the eternal banana republic and thaksin and family to hold on to power and money. some people don't see that of course but then again there were lots a people voting for mc cain and pailin...

and btw,if you don't understand how the vote buying works then you just don't know anything and maybe you want to come up here to the north and i will explain it to you.it is whole villages that are bought and the pressure is on the village headman if the voting doesn't turn out right.just like under hitler, duh!,if you remember that guy.the fact that there is an election doesn't make it democratic.

and while the army doesn't want to govern they have no other choice when the constitution is tampered with too much.

Vote buying was from both sides - evens out

The PAD support is eroding daily. Going down exponentially every day they sit in the airport. Huge tactical error that but it was to be expected. 100K were supposed to turn up, how many did? 10K at best (nearly all of whom are being paid..)

OK, I'll come up north. While I'm there shall we do an informal poll of who the locals support (no money involved.) I think we all know the outcome.. As we would if they have another election tomorrow with no money involved.

  8. As long as the rural majority can be bought off for 500 Baht a vote it will be unacceptable to PAD.

It's much easier to buy a few million people's votes for 500 Baht a pop than say a few thousand Bangkokians vote for several million each... You cannot have a government elected on the back of bribery. That is not democracy.

    you actually believe this ???

how do all these PAD'rs pay for their food? out of their own pocket? they don't have to work?

really? how's payi9ng for the TV station, the concerts, etc ???

... get real man, they're getting paid to protest and the money is coming from illegal wood cutting and drugs trade !

    this whole buying vote argument is so childish; explain this to me;

I take 1000 baht from 1 party, take 1000 baht from the second party, but actually vote for a third party ... how do you know, how do you stop it?

you're whole vote-buying argument has no value what so ever !

all it means is that you're really bad in finding excuses ...

I certainly believe it. Its most sensible post I have read today.

LOL. Why would they want to buy a Bangkokians vote for several million when they likely already have their support in the first place.

They ALL try to buy the rural votes (they aren't stupid) and it all evens out.

Ask some of these rural folk who they support. You won't need to pay them, they'll tell you for FREE and we all know what they'll be saying.... but I guess their opinion/vote doesn't count, right? WRONG

  9. Does anyone know what happens to cancelled air asia flights? We are due to fly with them on Sunday to Phnom Penh. I find no information on their website. Do we get our money returned or new flights? Problem with a new date is that I will have overstayed my limit. Reason for journey is to get a tourist visa,

    Any info would be welcome.

    Tony

They will do either. Call them on 025159999 to arrange. I got a refund and am jumping on a bus to Cambodia tomorrow. Would have changed the flights but not convenient to fly next month. I doubt the airport will charge you an overstay fee if you are a few days over given the circumstances. I imagine Cambodia will although I will be printing out my air ticket and trying to avoid paying it.

I would have thought you'd be alright by Sunday anyway, but who knows I guess

  10. "One would imagine to check their website where all the info on the airport closure is available........ rocket science???"

Love your arrogant tone. The info wasn't on their website when I posted - rocket science???

edit: "To make arrangements for your next flight to/from Bangkok, please proceed to the AirAsia Sales Counter at your respective airport of departure after the Bangkok airport has reopened. You may use your credit shell to redeem a seat on the next available flight to/from Bangkok within 3 days from your original date of travel."

They sound optimistic about getting flights up and running quickly again

  11. Man, visa expires today. had a flight to Penang this morning then back tomorrow with Air Asia.

Air Asia line is down. No idea whether I can get a refund or move the flights to another day.

Wondering if I should get a bus to Cambodia for a stamp. Guess I'll just wait and see what happens at the airport.

I take solace in the fact that this will crush the PAD. Rational PAD supporters can understand protest, they can't however stomach domestic terrorism.

  12. I suggest you check out some of the other treads here in the internet section.

TOT international access speeds have been in the 5 kb/s range for me for last 3 weeks , generaly True is faster then TOT.

I am now back to normal speeds and hope things improve , I know TOT are trying to improve things.

But I have been on 9k6 modem speeds for weeks now on my TOT ADSL so think about it :o

Not intending to get TOT ADSL. Looking to get CSloxinfo. Any experiences with them would be appreciated.

  13. Hi,

Just to get a better idea on how to help , does your friend have a phone line already? If yes who's name is on the bill? thats who has to order service. If you don't have a phone line have the building owner or your landlord order the line and add internet service after that. Most of the time you don't have to go anywhere at all. I don want to go into much details about my self but other than Friday i have never been to a shop to order any service.I didn't want to wait for the router to be delivered in a week. I have ordered telecoms/UBC/True over the phone for 4 different places over time here and just faxed a copy of passport/lease ect. I didn't have a work permit until about 8 months ago but have been here for 7 years consistently. If your in a condo have the person you pay rent to order the service on the phone that is already there (if there is one ) and you pay the bill.

    Hope this helps some.

    Cheers

    Strap

    Hi,

Thanks all for advice. It's not a huge problem as I can get a TOT line with any other ISP no problem (probably csloxinfo.) None of these require a work permit. I can also just get True under my GF's name - but why would I? True are an absolute joke.

  14. Hello all, thought I would add my 2 cents worth seeing as I am the friend in question.

I have now been two a total of four True shops including one in Fortune town (same as strap) with my mate Martin. At EVERY shop I was told in no uncertain terms a work permit was required. I never mentioned work and always offered to show them a copy of my long-term lease agreement. As Martin says the requirement for a work permit is VERY clearly stated on the top of their new application form.

"My guess would be if he had a non-immigrant visa valid for one year he wouldn't need to show a work permit." I do not believe this to be the case. I am here on a Tourist visa but that has certainly never come into question. Not once have they asked what Visa I'm on nor have I told them. They simply say they need a work permit. End of story.

Oh and a little about their service. I called them on 6 seperate occasions over the space of 2 weeks and EVERY time received "all our operators are busy leave your number" etc. They never called back.

Truely a third world company. Pun intended.
