  1. So the moral of the story here is "get a grip" - the German was out of order, yes....... but a bit of perspective here please. Think, have you ever been in a situation where you have acted irrationally....... where you have "snapped" or been over-hasty....... has something petty ever eaten away at your for weeks on end, and your pent up frustration exploded and manifested itself in some silly response? Ok, fair enough - I've never shot anything or been outwardly violent, but I have done things that with hindsight I can see were disprortionate and perhaps harsh........ Germans being Germans, whom I have found to be very direct and to the point, do not tend to "bite the lip" when something is bothering them...... they tend to complain and make their grievence known - I would bet this old geezer complained many times, and not just about the stupid mut pee'ing on the tyres....... and realising how futile it would be to go to the police (since they seem to do nothing about even the most sersious of human rights violations), he just shot the little rat....... so all these stupid sentences that are being prescribed here - please  !!!

So by the same logic when some nutty dog lover spots him and meters out a jolly good pasting we will all be able to use "a bit of perspective" in our condemnation (or not) of same?

  2. The people who have ever actually gotten involved in such incidents tend to advise against it as a policy.

Been involved twice, once in bkk and once in Pattaya, second time was a seriously injured ex pat. And yes i would do the same again, did not get blamed either time and suffered no problems from the police involved although in both instances their competence was seriously lacking by western standards but thats another story. Anyone else here actually got involved and can give a factual account of how they ended up getting the blame?

  3. Why would you live anywhere in fear of any kind?

I've expressed my surprise, I am clearly in the minority (and happy to be) no point debating it as my opinion wont change neither will yours, so lets agree to disagree on this one bud.

You come across as a fearless superhero.

Why would you think I live in fear ? Keeping a low profile makes it very easy to live in peace. It's the very way to eliminate most fear.

As for phoning the police when there are hundreds of Thais more capable of doing that on a busy thoroughfare - it's all about eliminating frustration and invonvenience. Nothing to do with fear.

ohhh really? Which one? Phone call man!

Oh I can see your point clearly now, dead? bodies in the road how inconvenient.

  4. How dare I interrupt all the narrow-minded whinging with some positive experiences. :D

Boy UG, these schmucks are really ganging up on you. No worries, you have a quiet coalition behind you, all of us just shaking our heads at the constant negativity. If my life was as bad as some of these guys make it out to be, I'd put a gun to my head. But yet they stay...and complain....and stay....and complain. One of the mysteries of the universe....

    I hope I wasn't part of your assumption? :)

I left full time occupation over 18 months ago and now just holiday 3 to four times a year, I gave up my wp, fired the dishonest and moved on. Quite simply one can't help those that can't help themselves. I keep the business as a self financing holiday home and have two staff who are actually worth their salt, they now run my business and do quite well from it I believe in rewarding honesty and hard work.

Your quite right in your comment, what is the point in banging your head against a wall? I did not like the constant dishonesty that i kept coming across, I did not enjoy the shakedowns and after four years residence the most frustrating thing for me was that the scams were nothing new to me so it was not even a challenge anymore, it was just tiresome. Thailand threw me off center thankfully i now have balance back in my life and no regrets. I actually did quite well out of my stay in the end, it was an education.

I am lucky to have a career and enough talent to locate to whichever part of the world I care to choose, after 4 years in Thailand i chose home, and there is no place like it..... what used to piss me off about my own country is now a smile and a breeze after my Thai experience, it's just too easy.

I do understand that Thailand may be the " ënd of the line " for many of you " old timers" but suicide was never an option for me. :D

Now its two weeks max in the Land of smiles for me thanks :D much easier than living there.

  5. Seriously why do you people live in or visit Thailand if you are all so sh*t scared of getting involved?

I don't follow your reasoning? Could you explain what you mean by this? Since when was being a hero a prerequisite for living in Thailand?

    Hero?

Nothing heroic about making a phone call bud.

Yes bud, but why shouldn't we live in Thailand if we are "so sh*t scared of getting involved"? I wouldn't have bothered to make the call and I've lived peacefully in Thailand for 5 years.

Why would you live anywhere in fear of any kind? As someone previously posted there is a branch of English speaking tourist police. I am really surprised by the responses on this thread (although I know I shouldn't be), most here are more than likely happy to interact with the Thai underworld for it is they who run the entertainment, but call the police to report a traffic accident? Thats far too dangerous.

I've expressed my surprise, I am clearly in the minority (and happy to be) no point debating it as my opinion wont change neither will yours, so lets agree to disagree on this one bud.

  6. By the way the reason why I highlited the fact that the stick was wet is that I could noteven lit it up to keep the monkes off..! In the end and finally my inital longtail boat which I started the tour with turned up at 19.00 As I was already thinking of how to prepare myself for the night and prepare myself to face further fears and possible animal's attacks..Again..respect the nature and the nature will respect you back..

    Cheers, Ramdas..

Great post, glad you survived with just scratches, the mental image of your monkey skirmish made me laugh out loud what a great story!

  7. I'm all for using one's discretion abroad ; and understandably the govt couldn't just let them go and say 'don't do it again' .

But I find revolting to have them in court in stinky pajamas and iron-bound.

    cattle are often better treated.

I guess the red-shirt leaders will appear in formal suits , clean white shirts and NO irons. This smacks of racism , they like to humiliate them for a part of the electorate to see and enjoy.

Of course if they keep on being aggressive they have to be restrained in court.

But why the ragged pajamas ?

He wanted to be "down with the Thai people" well now he is down with the Thai people pajamas and all. :)

  8. Astute ex pats.... dont even get me started on that one :)

Do you like to whinge about them too? :D

How very ex pat of you. Anyone who does not agree with your point of view is a whinger and only the astute readers are intelligent enough to read between the lines in your posting in that when you said you had NEVER been ripped off in Thailand you meant never a figure in excess of ?

20 stores huh? What are they called?

    toys R us?

    :D

  9. You said "robbed blind", which usually means very significant amounts of money. We are talking about corruption and cheating on a big scale, not a little petty cash. The accusations are that Thailand is somehow unusual. Do you really think that employees in the West do not do the same thing? :)

    The emphasis was on blind.

So you have suffered losses from petty cash then?

Thailand is somehow unusual? Yes it's a national sport, if they put as much effort into their football team Brazil would be sh*tting themselves that they would meet Thailand in the final. It's a sad fact, some people can deal with it, others (like myself) find it unacceptable and feel alienated by it. Yes it happens in the West, no where near the same scale, in Thailand even the educated feel it's ok to skim a little here and there.

I dont think your even fooling the newbies, Thailand has been well and truly rumbled, I do not envy you with 20 stores, good luck with that.

  11. Phone the police?? I would have taken a pulse first... you know just to check he/she was dead...

Seriously why do you people live in or visit Thailand if you are all so sh*t scared of getting involved?

Truly sad that you stooped so low as to take no action, unbelievable you feel the need to brag about it on here though, shame on you mate.

  12. Nope. Not in this case. :)

So let me get this straight, you have 20 stores so I assume you employ at least 20 people to staff those stores and not one thief amongst them?

Forget pointing the finger at any race, what are the odds?

You are either truly blessed which I doubt, a Mafia godfather again doubtful, or living on a different planet to the rest of us, in which case I would like to visit.

  13. And by the way, I also run a successful business, possibly with far higher turnover than a bookshop or 4.

That is very impressive, but it does not negate the fact that I have built shop houses, bought company cars and dealt with numerous government officials and offices without ever being approached for a bribe or cheated. That is the subject of the thread.

does the phrase "robbed blind" mean anything to you?

  14. You seem to under estimate the danger of going to the police, I,m amazed at your faith in them, The risk is,nt the paperwork involved although not being able to read thai even that could be a real trap,

I doubt the police would have much interest in the welfare of the baby but rather a great interest in how much money they could make out of the situation this guy was in, To my mind going to the police would have been inviting them to empty his bank account,

Would you consider going to the local mafia with such a problem?

Have you ever actually been in a Thai police station? I think it would be good therapy for you.

  15. Whats also extremely funny, is these 2 probably felt they were "really" a part of the red "movement" and that his brothers in red would back him. Now they will both find out that NOBODY is going to come to their aid from the Reds. Stupid fools.

In 20 years time they will both start their bar stool stories with " I really thought that the reds were....................... different......... :) "

  16. Briton facing death penalty over redshirt riot breaks down in Thailand court

    Briton-Jeff-Savage-is-led-006.jpg

"......But facing a judge for the first time since being arrested at the weekend, he broke down sobbing. "This is hurting my mother, she's 80 years old. Can't anybody help me?"

Sorry.. No.. You should've thought of that before you assumed the role of mob supremo (joining & supplying them) in a place you had absolutely no rights under the law of this (Thai) Land to do so..

Quit sobbing now & face up to your stupid, idiotic actions you fool..

    quote from source: .Guardian.co.uk.

Awww... isn't that typical? The big, mean bully showing bravado when surrounded by his mates but when it's time to face the consequences of his deeds cries for his mommy.

Slap a few extra months to the sentence on account of being such a pathetic wimp. :)

Hang him high! Typical Brit giving it large but when it comes on top falling on his knees and calling for his mommy....... what bullshit.

I think the days of coming to Thailand and re-inventing yourself as something your not is fast coming to an end and that applies to all knobheads not just British ones.

  17. Right now personally I don't feel physically threatened.

That could change I guess especially after you know who passes on.

I too have money tied up here in 3 properties, car, furniture and all the othr things one gathers through life.

However, If the time came and I and the missus thought it was a necessary thing to do , I would hand over the keys to condos and car to Thai family for safe keeping and buy 2 air tickets out and be gone within 24-48 hours and look at returning if/when things were safe again.

Of course, there is the chance that if I do leave and have time to settle back in my home country, I may never return to live full time in Thailand.

same as my plan B, which I put into effect around six months ago, the timing I felt was right and I have no regrets.

  18. "I hold my hands up — it was me, and I'm ashamed that I lost my temper," he told The Times by telephone from his home in the Thai resort town of Pattaya. "I was tired and emotional and full of steroids. I said we're going to burn down Central — I was being sarcastic."

A Brit, tattoos, steroids, empty threats, throws tantrums, home in Sisaket and lives in Pattaya. I get the picture.

I didn't see the pictures but it doesnt surprise me that he had tatoo's.

    Ignorant thing to say.

Facts are a bummer are they not. :D

    It's a fact now? :)

  19. A British man who was filmed apparently taking part in opposition rallies and calling for buildings to be burnt to the ground, yesterday denied that he had carried out acts of arson. Jeff Savage, 48, an NHS worker from London, admitted he was present when ringleaders decided to burn down a television station. The blaze trapped 100 people. Thai police said Mr Savage, who has a Thai wife, was wanted for questioning and could face the death penalty. :):D:D:D

I wonder how long it will take for some of those who wanted to throw the book at him ( which he deserves) to start posting how Thailand is barbaric as it has a death penalty. :D

I doubt it, after all he is making a big claim to being down with the locals, that tends to touch a nerve on TV so expect a big crowd at the execution.

More than likely he will make a few quid out of this as the Sun seems fascinated and would more than likely pay well for an exclusive from the Thai/Brit freedom fighter added to which I would pay well for a Rolex and 2 baht of gold for the missus.....

*part of this sentence is a joke and no malice or criminal intention is either displayed and or intended, look at the facts: I stated i have a missus therefor cannot afford either the Rolex or the gold*

Have to be careful what you say on here now days :D

  20. There seem to be a lot of foreign men in Pattaya on the red shirt side.

Hardly surprising as all the Thai women in Pattaya who marry/use forigners are low class.

If my wife or girlfriend was a prostitute from a poor family, I'd be upset about the state of affairs and maybe join the reds.

My wife is from the elite so understandably I am against the reds.

Sorry, I'm confused. Are you saying your wife is a high class hooker coming from an elite family outside of Pattaya???

:D No she is not a hooker nor comes from Pattaya - why do you think that? She comes from a well to do family - her great grandfather was the King of Laos.

Oh what a crock! How naive do you think we are?! :) whatever you abuse is available in great abundance there in Pattaya!

King of Laos? WOW! I bet the sponsorship is not cheap on that one :D

  21. You see loads of these soft shandy drinking Southerners in England at football, all big mouths and acting hard then run away when the going gets tough.

Alot of these plastic ingerland supporting scum watch to many of those fake hooligan films.

I have lost count of the Southerners i have had to knock out when i go to Pattaya.

You couldn't knock a bottle over. Pattaya is full of badly dressed northen scum bags, no fashion sense whatsoever, fake stone island from the market, your poor, badly educated with no jobs, the south run you mackerels anytime.

Are they selling fake Stone Island now? Wicked! Which market? :)

  22. Do you have Jeff Savage's phone number? We would like to contact him.

Which newspaper do you work for?

I note that Thailands new farang poster boy has nearly all of page 36 of the Sun newspaper to himself this morning (for all the Brit lovers out there, that is the paper of choice for us shaven headed tattooed louts who visit Pattaya so as you can imagine it's a top seller) the story may as well have been lifted straight off this website.
