  1. Would advise to get the extension...

As the new regulations for blacklisting those who overstay...

Not worth it at all... Why risk it... would pay the 1,900 Thb for extension

In case of aliens surrendering to the authorities:
Overstay more than 90 days – forbidden from re-entering the kingdom for 1 year
Overstay more than 1 year – forbidden from re-entering the kingdom for 3 years
Overstay more than 3 years – forbidden from re-entering the kingdom for 5 years
Overstay more than 5 years – forbidden from re-entering the kingdom for 10 years

In case of aliens being arrested and prosecuted:
Overstay up to 1 year – forbidden from re-entering the kingdom for 5 years
Overstay for more than 1 year – forbidden from re-entering the kingdom for 10 years

  2. When I first moved to Thailand , around 12 years ago, seemed this happened quite often ...

Although over the years, have noticed fewer and fewer cases of Thais trying to cut into the front of the line

To be honest, it's been so long since its happened, cant even remember the last time.

  3. Didnt do WW2 in school, they focused "history" on ancient history and upto the time of HenryVIII.

Everything I know and learned about WW2 I probably gained from TV documetaries and particularly movies.

Like, Battle of Britain,Dam Busters, 633 Squadron, Great Escape, Reach for the sky, longest day, and so on.

A regular Sunday afternoon movie feature on TV.

Took a Thai history class when going to University here in Thailand

Also confirm no mention of world

War 1 or WWII it went straight from ancient times into more recent past

Only part that was included was the names of kings and PMs that were in charge in the early - mid 1900's but no discussion of the details of what was going on during that period

    you should have changed University.

    Why?

I wasn't majoring in Thai history or world history ...

It was a basis 101 course and free elective ..

Was quite happy with the quality of the core courses

  5. You may have to pay duty, depending on the visa type you are arriving on. If you have a tourist visa you will probably have to pay. If non-immigrant maybe not.

I use a 42" Panasonic TV with my Mac mini here. Cost about 15,000 baht (300 British pounds).

Agree, doesn't seem worth the cost ...

You can easily buy a large screen TV for much cheaper

If you want to use it as screen for any Apple devices, more cost effective way would be to buy Apple TV and link with AirPlay

  6. Ok i found an interesting article:

" Those who live in Thailand for more than half the year are considered to be resident in the country for the purposes of tax. If you are resident then you are expected to pay taxes on all income that you earn worldwide. "

So if I stay for 6 months or more I am considered a non-immigrant, resident of thailand.

True, except for the fact that Thailand only taxes you on world wide income brought into Thailand in the same year it was earned

If left overseas till the year after it was earned, then non taxable

  7. Just for a bit more info on why the Form is required ...

As the goal of the FTA is to promote the trade of goods manufactured in the countries that are members of the FTA

It is not just shipped from China...

Otherwise, you could by goods from any country in the world and then just arrange for a transshipment in Any Chinese port... And get the BL TO SHOW origin port in China

    Then get duty reduction...

As you can imagine, that would not be the intent of any such FTAs

  8. Interesting stuff CW.

Do you know if there's a value below which the Form-E rigmarole is not / less rigorously applied?

I've had two shipments recently from China, the DHL one I quoted and one via TNT with a value of just over $1000. Both had duty exempt tariff codes under the FTA, neither had a Form-E, neither attracted anything more than the VAT plus a clearing fee.

If looking to receive duty reduction under ASEAN / China FTA, then is required even for lower valued items

Although there are a number of HS codes under which the normal general duty rate is already 0%, so it could be vary we'll be the case in the example mentioned above , that duty already 0%

Would need more details to know for sure

  9. It's also important to understand that just because goods ordered from China and goods ship from China, it does NOT automatically mean you are going to receive any duty reduction

Things to remember about ASEAN/China FTA---

    1. You would need to receive a special certificate of origin from the Chinese shipper called a 'Form E'(this means the Chinese government has inspected the shipper and ensures that at least min amount of local Chinese content is included in the manufacturing of the goods to meet FTA requirement)

    2. The form E must be issued exactly correct, all details must be completely correct and matching with shipper's invoice and the air way bill Or bill of lading (if even 1 letter or punctuation difference or if even 1 penny difference in value on the invoice or description not exactly matching invoice of if HS code is not correct-- then can not be used)

    3. If form E is not exactly correct , you would need to have the shipper re-issue correctly and send original to you in Thailand, as must be original Form E for customs processing.

    4. So in this case, can either wait until correct docs all received and then clear (all the while storage charges accruing) or you can clear paying all duties and vat with putting notice in customs system that you will later get Form E and then request a refund (takes months to get get funds back from revenue department)

    5. Also in order to use FORM E , you must use formal customs clearance. This is NOT the normal bulk clearance that courier companies like DHL or UPS or FEDEX use for most shipments. (Unless shipment flagged by customs for formal clearance - usually can happen if goods high value or larger size or controlled commodity that normally require special import permit for clearance)

You would need to tell the courier company in advance (contact them once you have tracking number before shipment arrives)

So just remember the above before you think someone is trying to rip you off---

  10. I got charged once for my own goods, not a purchase made outside of Thailand, it was an item made and bought in Thailand, sent to someone overseas, that they returned to me.

I got charged import duty/tax. When challenged and explained, the response "do you want it or not" !

I said no as the "extras" were more than what it actually cost.

    Item was never seen again.

There is a special temporary export process that allows for export of goods with the intent that they will come back in exactly the same condition

But you have to do on the way out...

It includes taking photos of goods, serial numbers , inspection by customs officers in the way out...

This way it can be proved on the way back in that it is in fact the same goods

If customs officers just took the word of all importers as the truth... There would not be any import taxes collected...

Thailand would love to have FTA with EU and U.S. ... Similar the ones it has with India, Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Peru and all other ASEAN countries...

It was the EU that has put things on hold not Thailand

    http://www.undercurrentnews.com/2014/06/26/eu-suspends-free-trade-talks-with-thailand/

    Same with US

    https://ustr.gov/countries-regions/southeast-asia-pacific/thailand

Again more recently with the Trans Pacific Partnership

    https://ustr.gov/tpp

Hopefully things can be finalized after elections, but Am sure Thailand would be more than happy to resume negotiations at any time..

  11. How old is the child?

As Thai law is that you are not the father of the child as you are not married, and if the child is under a certain age then

you must apply to be recognised by the courts as the father of the child, maybe they are tightening up these rules and

giving the Embassies the rules to follow word for word.

My boy will be 2yrs old in March

I agree that there are only two methods in which to 'aquire' fatherhood for a Thai child, the easiest is just to marry the childs mother, & the 2nd is to apply to the Family Court for a Judge to decide. To cut to the 'chase', I do intend to marry the mother in the nearest future, but I need to do a few things before that will happen, as we 'all' know once married everything either of us aquire is owned 50/50.

So my 1st objective will be to create a company, & as I can only own 49% of said company, the other 51% will be divided up between 6-7 different Thai's that DON'T know each other (key point), this gives me control of the company, once created the 'company' will buy land & some vehical's in the company name.

With these objectives obtained I am more than willing to marry my sweetheart, & thus gain fatherhood for my son

Wouldn't it just be easier to buy the land in the name of your child and the cars on your own name?

Land if in kids name would require court order to sell

  12. Its all speculation, but my guess would be the name change issue...

As it seems the U.S. embassy now submit online application in advance.

So my the time you come in for interview, it is likely all has been reviewed and investigated

It seems Miley that they may have found out about the name change and that is why they directly asked about it.

When they 'caught her in a lie' .. Would guess that pretty much eliminates any chance

  13. It was sent by a family member.

He said he declared the package $115 for insurance purposes.

He used United States Postal Service.

Maybe because some of the used shirts are still in packages bought off Ebay is why there is a problem.

This was the issue.. They will charge you tax as the declared value is 'high'

If had declared value of 10 USD ... Then likely no tax..
