  1. Rule #1 - don't get between a Thai and his/her income. The result will be ugly.

Possible rash of school fires in the near future?

BTW why would this law apply to schools where the students are below legal drinking age?

And why would it apply to schools where the students were above the legal drinking age?

Why should it be ok for a 20 yr old factory worker to drink and not a 20 yr old university student?

  2. Can she prove that the pics are not from her,,,are there full body shots so we can check both,,,the ones in the picture and hers ?

From what I know of Thai deflamation laws... She doesn't have to..

The burden is not on the plaintiff but rather on the defendant ...

Defendant would have to prove it is her and that there was some compelling reason for the public good to release the video to the public

This is why so many can use declamation lawsuits as weapons so easily here..

Also why even powerful people don't come out and name names... They say things like ..

A prominent person with the initials of x.y.... And other such nonsense...

  3. If you are going to use windows 8 or 10 ( when released) then recommend getting touch screen

I have laptop running 8.1 with touch screen and it is nice having option of both touch screen and the touch pad

As some things are more convenient using the touch screen..

Like swiping the menu from the right for searches or turning off machine

Also windows 8 as the 2 interfaces.. One is like normal desktop and other is more like tablet interface with App Store

Many of the apps are only useful with touch screen

No reason not to get touch screen in my opinion

Hoping in a few more years the laptop / tablet hybrids will be a bit more powerful and lower cost... If So, next laptop will be a hybrid

Actually believe in the next 10 years ... This will be the norm and the non touch screen / hybrids will be nearly obsolete...

This post seems so wrong is so many ways, but perhaps I am old school? I recall having to put a notice on my screen a few years ago telling people to keep the hands off my screen. They would often like to point to things and leave dirty finger prints all over the screen. How on earth has this changed since?

Win8 and all its so called apps tried to implement touch just to gain traction in the market, but its failed as I and many predicted. Things like classic shell had to be made to counter the nonsense. Look forward to Win10 when a more natural feel of a pointing device like a mouse or touch pad comes back, because who feels comfortable having to reach extra distance to the screen to access the o/s when the mouse is already in your hands on a PC or laptop? Quite bizarre to this old schoolers mind. If you want touch, get a tablet or one of it's hybrids designed for touch.

To each his own I guess...

In my mind why not get the touch screen? Cost wasn't any more ... So why not.

If you just want to use your touch pad or mouse ... No problem to do so...

Also has desk top and the app page...

Granted I use the desktop about 90% of the time and the touch screen and apps only 10% or less...

But for that 10% it's nice...

It's all about keeping all options available

  5. Can't see any reason a single person who doesn't drink and only eats veggies can be comfortable in BKK

Can find a decent studio off of sky train or subway for 7-10k / mo with a/c...

Utilities apex 5 k using air at nights...

Internet / true visions / mobile ... 2k if bundle at true

Maybe 10 k for groceries / necessities to be comfortable

Let's say 100 thb a day for travel.. 3000 thb

Let's say 150 thb a day for breakfast and lunch ... Assuming not going to pack... 4,500 thb

So about 35,000/ before any entertainment

This can be a couple thousand a month to tens of thousands a month... But since you don't drink...

Seems not likely to be too much...

Do see any reason why shouldn't be able to easily put aside 10-15k a month if you want to without being too hard up ...

Although life can get a lot more expensive if you end up in a relationship or have kids...

Or move out to the suburbs and so need to buy a car..

  6. In Isaan eating cat and dog meat is nothing new.......why all the fuss ? As long as don't serve this to me all is ok...[emoji82][emoji82][emoji77][emoji77][emoji77]

The problem is that eating cats and dogs turns into a business and then peoples' pets start to disappear. Why the fuss? Same as when buffaloes and cows were disappearing overnight around here. I believe one guy was shot and buried.
So to solve the problem of the stolen cows did they arrest everyone eating beef?

Have do desire to eat cat but as long as they did not steal someone's pet or try to sell the cat meat as beef... I really don't see the problem

Some people buy rabbits as pets... Some buy them to feed to pet snakes and some buy them to make rabbit stew...

Can't see any reason why cats should have some special status over rabbits... After all rabbits are a lot cuter

Also some people keep pigs as pets... And while it would be wrong for someone to steal their pet pig... Doesn't mean. I should be arrested for eating bacon

  7. Wait a minute .... It seems to say that Illegal fishermen vow to stop finishing if the current laws are enforced..,

    Isn't that the goal???

    Isn't this a good thing?

Then the next step is to discuss with those illegal fisherman to find out if any can be made legal... If not, then leaves the market open for others wanting to come into the marketplace the legal way

As so long as some do in the illegal way, those willing to go the legal route can not compete

This seems like a good thing, and a great first step

  8. The owner of the company I work for here in Thailand has an issue with an insurance claim for a condo she owns in UK

She has asked me to intervene with the management company on her behalf

Does anyone know if there is anything similar to the Condominium Act in the UK that lays out regulations?

I know this maybe border line for This forum but I think that this is dealing with something I need to do for the Thai owner of the Thai company I work for , it may be allowed as 'dealing with Thailand'

As the owner is afraid that the management company may be trying to take advantage or treating her differently than local people.

If such laws exist, could some one give me a link.

Thanks for any help any can give... As I am a U.S. Citizen , so not familiar with UK laws and can not seem to find anyone using Google

  9. I don't find the below a compelling argument...

As Cambodian Casino is just few hours drive from Bangkok

So anyone that wanted to do this, could do it already

In fact, if done in a Cambodian Casino, they could also get around taxes..

As could keep winnings in a Casino account until the next Calendar year, then bring into Thailand tax free..

I worked three years at a casino. Its number one function was to make money for its owner. Its number two function was to launder illegally earned cash money. Five dollar slot machines pay back 99.5% so you drop 10,000 dollars into five dollar slot machines (with the help of aunties and cousins), get most of it back and pay tax on your 9,000 dollar 'winnings'. What was drug money in the morning is clean money by evening. Since the casino does not keep track of how much drug money you lost to get the winnings you paid tax on, the law enforcement can't prove that you get your income from illicit enterprise. Now the politicians won't have to lie and say how well they saved or invested to explain their unusual wealth, they can soon claim they 'won' it at the casino. No more using monks to transport your illegal income offshore; it's laundered so you can keep it close to you in Thailand. This will be a boon to corrupt officials, politicians, policemen, and soldiers as they can soon launder their own money.

Another negative, gambling tourists tend to never leave the venue where they gamble. The don't go on tours or go shopping; they gamble. Good luck, with all the cash involved in gambling, for the state to collect anywhere near the share that it is owed. Never mind, the head of whatever casino watchdog organization will get his cut.

Thirdly, gambling is a tax on stupidity since almost everyone loses every time.

    .

  10. Don't see any reason why not to legalize..

Anyone who wants to gamble now, can...

Either illegally in many of the local dens or legally on Cambodian border

Seems to me the only big loser if legalized is the criminals that are currently running the illegal casinos and the corrupt police officers petering the illegal gambling dens , who would lose a lot of tea money

And I'm completely ok with either of those groups losing out ..

It will help tourism, it will help tax collection

  11. It may be sad.. But the day of successful family farms is past or soon will be.

This is not just in Thailand bit in the western world as well.

Is it sad for these lifetime farmers.. Yes... But is the reality

The sooner they accept and get out in front of things, the better off most will be.

The below is an interesting read... Is about the death of the family farm is USA... But can draw many parallels to Thailand

    http://realtruth.org/articles/100607-006-family.html

Some may also find interesting thing on how subsidies can hurt the family farm...
