  1. And just one more point, I hope you will be living in Thailand for at least a minimum of the next 15 years in order that the dog may see out it's lifetime in a good caring home?

As long asthe dog has all of the proper vacinations and valid health certificate, it would be possible for the dog to move overseas with the owner if needed...

  2. Looks like KTC is back on the table... looks like they also have a Royal Orchid Plus vis card...

KTC-Royal Orchid Plus VISA Infinite, KTC-Royal Orchid Plus VISA Platinum, KTC-Royal Orchid Plus Titanium MasterCard and KTC-Royal Orchid Plus JCB are as follows:

    1) One reward point for every 20 Baht spent via the card

    2) Non-expiring reward points

    3) Entry fee and annual fee waived for life

    4) 10% discount on Royal Orchid travel packages to Japan (KTC-Royal Orchid Plus JCB credit card only) and 4% discount on domestic flight tickets at a number of travel agencies (World Explorer, Takerng Tour, ST Deluxe Tour, TV Air Booking Silom and Majestic Tour)

    5) Up to 50% discount on “Best Available Rate” of participating hotels and car rental services (e.g. Imperial, Best Western, Centara and Kantary hotels and resorts, Sheraton Hua Hin, Avis and Master Car Rental)

    6) 15% discount on international travel insurance with NZI from only 212 Baht for accident coverage of up to 1 Million Baht and emergency medical care expense coverage of up to 2 Million Baht

    7) 15% discount on Samsonite products

    8) Possibility of transferring reward points of supplement cards to the primary card

  3. The APR is 20% too I believe, which seems to be the norm across Thai cards, your right it is excessively high coming when compared with Europe/US. The great thing about this card though is that for every 20 baht spent you get 1 Thai Air Royal Orchid Plus mile. Had the card for eight months now and am half way to enough points for a roundtrip ticket to London. Amex Thailand also have a similar card but they only give 1 ROP mile for every 25 baht spent. You also get access to the Thai Air business class lounge if you fly with Thai internationally in any class by showing the card.

Thanks Martin. This does sound like a good deal and a quick way to rack up on the miles...

So far this looks to a better option than the KTC card (will need to check what rewards they offer)

  4. Wondering if anyone has any experience with KTC credit cards.

I have been thinking about applying for a Thai credit card for a while. I have a work permit and sufficient salary for various credit cards (I believe), but not sure which to go for.

I am planning on doing the rounds next weekend to all of the various banks, but was curious of other people's experiences and if they felt one company offered better services than another. Would appreciate any info that can be provided on any specific banks or cards.

    Requirements for KTC:

    1. Min salary THB 40,000/mo (for foreign national)

    2. Work Permit

    3. Must have resided in Thailand for at least two years

    4. Need pay slips/copy 6 months Bank book

    5. Letter from company

    Details for KTC:

    1. No Annual Fee

    2. 20% APR (this seems pretty high to me)

  5. We live here because we prefer living here to living elsewhere. As foreigners we have no right to attempt to change anything. That right is reserved for Thais. If you cannot accept Thailand as it is you should leave.

Choosing to live in Thailand does not demand that we give up all of our rights and anyone (foreigner or Thai) absolutely have every right to TRY and change things. Whether or not a non Thai CAN change anything is in fact a completely separate debate.

There are certain rights we are denied by law i.e. the right to vote, own land and work in certain professions, but most of the rights granted to Thais are also granted to non-Thais residing in Thailand.

If you chose to give up those rights, that is also your right, but you should not demand others to do the same.

You may be a guest here, but this is my home. I may not have any guarantee as to how long it will remain my home, but while it is, I do not have any problem with viewing it as such.

  6. Just because there are cases of corruption in the west does not make it correct. It is wrong no matter where it happens.

In the west many at least realize what they are doing is morally/legally wrong and try to keep it behind closed doors and if what they were doing ever became publically known they would be punished and held accountable (in the vast majority of cases).

In my opinion throw them all in Jail... Corrupt folks in the US, corrupt MPs in the UK and yes even the corrupt government officials in Thailand.

It will never be possible to eliminate all forms of crime (robbery, murder, rape or Corruption), but the goal of a society should be to punish those who commit these crimes and try to keep the number of occurrences to a minimum.

Thank You! I'll do my best to make it work for the good of the foreigners! :D I had to a couple of times and these guys were pretty happy aswell! (f.e: a guy beeing 2 days late for a visa run with the police trying to put him into jail and get him deported (typically "i don't like your face"), happens sometimes...) And corruption doesn't always mean that there is money involved, sometimes it's just knowing a "big cheese" you play golf with, that makes a call. Surely this form of corruption would be accepted by most (or already tried back home)?!

And yes corruption will never end! And there is no indication that the west has in any way got rid of it, it's just happening behind the scenes (that's why the media is privatly owned these days), and here it's practiced openly. So who has spine then, if in the west people have to hide it? :)

  7. I most definitely disagree with the above poster who called the OP a <deleted>...

I am not sure if there will be any retribution, but if every single applicant who was asked to pay a bribe did exactly as you did and reported it, it wouldn't be to much longer before before the corruption stopped at those offices.

They may be able to ignore one or two complaints, but if hundreds of complaints a day started coming in and "the big cheeses" needed to spend two or three hours with every applicant to only walk away empty handed it would stop...

You are part of the solution, not the problem...

  8. I would have thought that many of the people going to the bars would be happy about the "crack down".

If all of the girls are hanging around outside of the bars, then they are not inside of the bars with the customers.

But seriously... I don't think they are talking about the red light districts... I think they may be talking about the karaoke clubs targeting a Thai clientele that are in residential/normal business areas with girls hanging out in front of the bar from around 7pm onwards.

I pass a few of these places on my way home from work everyday, one of which is directly across from a elementary/high school.

Its one thing if its hidden away in a side soi, but completely different if its in your face, across from your kids school or by your home where your kids are forced to see it everyday.

Those that wish to partake can do so, but should be kept in a separate area.
