  1. Being a kiwi of scottish, irish, german and english descent I think its best to tell people that I am Maori, that way I get better benefits from the government and the ability to vote in a Maori only electroate.

I am a registered maori in NZ for voting purposes, but have no maori blood. The system is easily fooled people.

My brother is Canadian so I must be too.

As to the chinese family heritage.. well a niece speaks Mandarin, does that mean I am Chinese too now?

  2. Who gives a toss about the drug mule?

    Not me.

She can be stupid or desperate or ugly.

Does not change the fact that she is a criminal and thus she should be locked up.

These poor woman comments are an insult to women in general as though they dont have enough brains to know right from wrong.

Forget it, she needs to be locked up for a long time at Thai expense.

  3. Its not just you!

Plenty of examples of this type of behaviour daily, like the truck crossing the centre line when you indicate you are going to pass it.

Its part of the landscape, if it bothers you just push on by, nobody will be worried unless you knock them in the gutter and swear.

Women are the worst at the MRT/BTS doors. They just have to get that last seat for some unknown reason.

  4. Thailand's banks are probably safer than most in the West these days- the reason why they werent really affected by the crisis in 2008 is because they manage their funds more conservatively than Western banks.

    WHAT?

    Are you serious?

This has to be the most inaccurate post of the DECADE!

Keep your money off shore in a term deposit in Australia, any currency except the Euro as its going to be downward for the next year or more.

Any currency that the Greeks or Gordon Brown have access too should be sold ASAP.

  5. I use Direct Broking only.

You have to be resident of NZ, but they NEVER really check as a local address is the only checking they do.

I trade off shore and in theory am not able to own certain stocks/bonds but do.

NZ runs on trust in these things.

But don't use a full brokerage house as they charge the earth and they make crap recommendations.

  6. Dear Bannangio,

In the case of a Non-Immigrant O visa, taxes must be able to prove that he or she has paid taxes for this duration on a salary of at least 30,000 Baht.

    Absolute nonsense!

There is FAR more to the process of obtaining Thai citizenship!

    Patrick

    Patrick is RIGHT.

Sunbelt are talking about Residency or Permanent Residency to be more precise.

Sunbelt should correct the post as they appear to be misleading people by the typo they have made.

Citizenship comes well after PR, and in fact is very rarely given to farang. Apparently only 10 or so are given out each year.

  7. From my understanding, the blue book is ONLY for Thais to register their address. Farangs cannot be listed in the blue book. I don't think you have anything to worry about but you should check with the Land Office to comfirm the nothing has been changed with the chanote . Of course, checking with a lawyer would be the safest thing.

I think you will find that farang who have gained Thai residency status HAVE to have a registration in a blue book somewhere.

I presume people will google "Thai Residency for foreigners" before commenting.

    :)
