  1. mmmm.....maybe when he gets out,he may consider changing the Blarney Stone into a gay bar.....

Not a nice place to go to for 6 months,my experience at visting a prison in Bangkok was enough with abrupt and arrogant prison officers, certainly not a jovial bunch.

I did like that place in the corner up near the main road, remember they use to have karaoke and anyone could sing,i think it has stopped, apparently a lot of older expats use to go there and sing ,HOWEVER THE BAR OPPOSITE THEM also use to drown them out with music, shame really.

I really blame the fail of business in that area on that road they keep building, now being going on for years.

  2. Done a walk around the Jomtien Complex a few days ago,and my has it changed.

I really used to love this place once with its lively restaurants.

Noticed was the increase in size of the gay bars, many expanding from 1 shophouse to 3 in some cases, however not many customers.

Even though im told many of the gay bar owners are shophouse owners so dont pay rent which may help them survive.

The former busy "Hideaway bar" looks a shell with no customers, used to remember a few years back with its golf tours and you couldn't get a chair it was so busy.

The restaurant I use to love "Aquarius" has closed and im disapointed as I didnt know it had gone as has "Pagoda".

Mind you,Cafe Ritz and Antz restaurants were relatively busy.

At the lower end is a lot of gay bars.

Cafe Ritz seems to have set menu every night,UK type food, around 370 baht,3 or 4 courses, sorry cannot review as i havent been there, but you probaly wouldnt get a seat, even on a week night.

Antz of course is a cheaper cafe restaurant type place but good food and low price if only they would employ sensible mature staff rather than silly teenage students.

Has anyone tried the restaurant "Touch of Class" which has been opened for about 12 months now, love a review from there.

Also seems to be a Finnish cafe/restaurant there too, very busy but all signs in Finnish?

I use to like CAFE India in this complex but that has gone too as it seems the Blarney Stone Irish bar.

Certainly its a very difficult area it seems for restaurants to operate, high class ones anyway it seems going by the closures.

Noticed there was a shophouse for sale, seemed to be 4 storeys, wanting 12 million baht or that could of been for two?,I did remember a few years back they were in the 7 mill range.

This place/complex would be great for a supermarket which is badly needed in that area.

Im not sure why Tesco or Carrefour are not interested.

  3. Yes it's the place in Soi LK .

It's a pity really, because im sure the newish owner is a good cook, but in my opnion lacks business sense.

Really it's seems so competitive in that area that you have to give customers more than others especially if everyone around you is selling the same thing, that area seems to becoming a "dog eat dog" mentality among business owners and i imagine only the tough survive.

Im sure this place has potential though to be a good business providing great food if you had that business sense, but no i personally wont be going back to Bobs BBQ because i couldnt see any value OR difference eating there or eating at any other place except its half the price at other places.

Am I as a customer getting anything special at Bobs BBQ ,anything more, anything different, any different atmosphere,no,its the same as the others except I got 10 french fries and paid something like 12 dollars.

This is not meant to be a putdown but to help these newish business owners to learn to be more competitive, think of new ideas, give customers more etc.

  4. Darrel, your right I should of known better, but I did think the burger would look and taste different from the burger stand ones and have bigger asnd better tasting portions of chips etc.

I didn't think they would charge extra for sauces either, but I gave it a go and didn't like it,others may differ and love it,we are all different.

But perhaps if I had tried their BBQ ribs instead of their burgers I may feel different about it.

  5. Well,it probaly ended up far more than 10 bucks with the value added tax 30 b plus the extra 35 baht for the bbq sauce,so probaly around the 12 dollar range.

Crazy actually that a business charges extra for sauces and mustards.

I recall those 79 baht burger stands put the sauce on for free,in fact some of them have the sauces/mustard out for you to put on yourself.

On a positive side, apparently Bobs BBQ have a 99 baht lunch time burger special, now Im not sure if they ADD the value add tax to that or its already added ?

I hope this bobs bbq survives as apparently they have relatively new ownership, but in my opinion they should make some changes.

  6. Popped into BOBS BBQ restaurant on Soi LK Metro last week.

First timer here, had a hamburger 280 baht which comes with chips/french fries.

In reality the burger was the same as you would buy from the street carts, nothing really special, heck, they may have even popped out to buy it.

The portion I ordered was medium sized but small portions,I actually counted 12 small chips.

Now it was a decent tasted burger with lettuce tomato etc but not the best and I expected better , they also charged me an extra 25 or so baht for a tax, which I have never been charged before except in big places.

Staff were middleaged ladies and quite polite but not overly helpful.

Sitting in a outside table,I noticed the amount of "missed" customers they lost ,who would come over to look at the outside menu and leave.

Also for the hour I was there,I was the only customer so its doubtful they are busy.

I think the dark tinted wndow stops a lot from going in.

My advice is to increase portion sizes,OR lower the prices.

I didnt think it was value for money, paying over $10 for a burger and 10 or so french fries.

Also I think if I owned the place I would create a atmosphere of maybe country music, and take out the black tinted windows and turn off the inside TV of fox news.

Would I go back, probaly not because their are far more cheaper alternatives,if they had some "atmosphere",then it maybe worth the price BUT I can pay 79baht down a few shops away at the burger stand and probaly even have a conversation with the cook.

I would rate it around a 4 out of 10.

Postives were the place looked very clean, was aircon inside, staff were polite and efficient although not talkative and there was no waiting for food very long at all.

The food was well presented on the plate.

Negatives were small portion sizes and price value ,not enough chips ,considering I ordered medium size,I would hate to see small size.

  7. I went to NEWS Cafe yesterday, should of gone today for their 199 buffett (Saturday).............I ordered their cheeseburger and fries.

My opinion, food was good ,well presented, fresh coleslaw with the cheeseburger, real chips not fries.

However at 245 baht seemed a bit expensive,as I know I can get similar pricing in Farangland if I wanted.

Having said that, the food ,cheeseburger was tasty, well presented and meduim serving.

The female waitress was very polite, attentive and good english.

Its more like a cafe than a restaurant however seems to have a lot of pricier dishes available.

I will try to get in for the weekend buffetts, apparently every saturday and sunday from 12pm to 3pm,I think for 199 baht.

  8. I may venture over to Naklua today,I have been told that is where there are some good German restaurants.

It will be my first experience with German food tonight so I am looking for reccomendations plus some tips on what to eat for a first timer.

Im not after expensive up market places, more like a social ambience place mybe even some entertainment .

Im not sure if Naklua is the place but I heard it is the Germam area.

    thanks

  9. I had Lamb rogan josh at "Neeroys" in Soi Chaiyapoon and it would have to be the worst food I have ever had.

They advertise their curries as "Bradford Curries",I presume thats in the Uk.

Well they made the curry ok,but the beeef seemed to be old and non chewable as well,I have NEVER had Rogan Josh with Tomato sauce dolloped on top?

Is that how they make Lamb Rogan Josh in Bradford ?

For 140 baht a bowl,I expect better,no bread butter included ,just a bowl ,same size small creal bowl with old beef ,curry paste and tomato sauce.

On a brighter note, opposite there is Canterbury Tales Cafe, food was very good,BUT Neeroys, sorry seems no pride or care for the tripe you dish out.

  10. I heaRD from a friend that Papa Davids restaurant has closed on the dark side and the Jomtiem one is closing too.

Personally i wasnt fussy over it as their staff were to find to order food.

  11. I see the Pagoda Restaurant in the Jomtien Complex has closed for business, this was opposite the Thai blind massage.

If I recall correctly it had plants/shrubs outside and was a fine dining restaurant.

They were always advertising on the Pattaya Television.

Never saw many customers inside though.

  12. Yes I think it was Chevin,I think it may have been taken over by Mosaik apartments and closed.

I didn't know Tony's in Bukcow was open 24 hours, may have to sign up for the monthly fee then.

  13. Yes,actually i prefer to walk the streets rather than the treadmill, but it can be dangerous with motorbikes ect speeding past.

I do try to walk towards oncoming traffic if I can.

I love long walks and somedays I can walk up to 20km.

The thing with long walks is that you have no option but to complete it,but with the treadmill you can stop it anytime.

I think a good walk I hear is walking up Buddha hill,

Anyone have an idea what area for good long walks where its relatively safe walking without motorbikes roaring past.

I did walk from South Pattaya to Jomtien beach a few months ago,not a bad walk, however stopped at 2 roadside chicken places on the way so never lost or gained any calories.

Getting back to the original post, there used to be a gym in South Pattaya, maybe closed.

  14. My favourite Indian food ,mixed together is Lamb Korma, beef vindaloo, and butter chicken with rice.

Is there any good Indian restaurants now in Pattaya.

I see this Indian by nature certainly has a lot of publicity, would you all say that would be number 1 in Pattaya for quality service.?

I remeber there is 1 place, small place on the main Road near the Jomtien complex.

  15. Looking for a gym near Tukcom

,Doesnt have to be big just as long as it has treadmills and cycle so i can work off calories.

    Not interested in weights.

Also if you can give me a CASUAL visit price.

I know there is one I think Tony"s on the main Rd in Soi Bukcow, anyone know there casual rate and im sure i did see a treadmill just outside it?

I think another was PN Mansion gym up towards the big Tonys, but is there any actually near Tukcom.

  16. Yes its still going on.

Swedish/Swiss ? blonde haired crying boy chased by the ,i presume, jetski guys tonight up beach rd.

Not sure if they caught him,but with 3 tattooed ,no shirt wearing jetki ops after him ,I doubt the poor boy got away.

Im pretty sure he was with two others ,a boy and girl aged about 19/20 yo,but it looks as though he has made a run for it.

Dont ask me where he knew he was running to,but with the perified look on his face they certainly scared the bejeebies out of him.

Dont know if they caught up with him,but from my observations nobody assisted him,not that you would really.

  17. Who has been on the PattayA /Hua Hin ferry service ?

What was your experience like,I suppose not really much to di in 3.5 hours.

    Does seem a tad expensive.

I think we are not allowed to post website links here except to say the business must be called Thai living ferry.

According to its website it only operates WED FRI SUN,

Anything much to do in Hua Hin?

  18. Quote from OP: nowadays with the emergemce of young farangs, going off stupid with high powered hoses and using acid and chemicals in waterguns I really not having patience with it.

Is this really true??? Acid? I know the Pattaya media is half asleep, but surely something like this will be reported? I wonder why is it fun to use acid/chemicals?

    Well Doggie,it's what I heard.

Personally I have not seen it myself, and I have no evidence to back up those rumours.

  19. 1/3 the price ? I agree with you, however i noticed fish and chip places such as Simons at Jomtiem,NOT Simple Simons, but Simons on the main road jomtiem have the same price ,actually more than Western Prices.

Had fish and chips with tartare sauce the other week in Australia.

Cost was 8.50,thats around 180 baht or so?

So it was a big piece of fish and real potato chips, plus tartare sauce and slice of lemon 8 dollars 50 cents, around 180 baht.

i think its more expensive in Pattaya.
