If you want to spend time relaxing and not doing anything else but enjoy a quiet day - candidasa is the place to be... Puri bagus is quite nice to do nothing at all.... massage offered there for about $10.00. Swim, snorkle, etc.

Or if you want to be closer to the airport - then stay in Sanur.... a bit touristy but much quieter than Kuta.

Many big hotels such as The Hyatt, Bali Beach are located there - but there are also many smaller hotel right on the beach.

Bali is a beautiful place. Enjoy and have a safe and pleasant trip.

  2. No flight from U-tapao to Cambodia - by land (car/van/bus) from Pattaya to Siem Reap you will need a minimum of 3 days: 1 day to get there, 1 day to explore (not enough), and 1 day to return.

Plan to spend a minimum of 2 days - or a maximum of 4 exploring Angkor and the surrounding area. We spent 3 days there and paid the (at the time) $40.00 free 3 days pass.

    Day 1: Wow.... amazing!! Beautiful!!

    Day 2: Oh that's nice!!

Day 3: Do we have to climb that?? Please not another temple.... :-)

We hired a full time guide.... so we visited almost every temple and tourist attractions... but by day 3 we were ready to see something different.

  3. Tbh, i would never encourge any youngster of mine to join a sailing club, as what i've read in novels, the "new recruit" cabin boy is fair game with the senior officers during long voyages..

lay off the alcoholic breakfast :D:) - on the other side of the coin your son may be able to meet a nice rich girl at the Yacht Club then you can go back to your alcoholic breakfast :D:D

  4. PS

How much Sin Sot are you paying mom so she can save her face in her village and not suffer the embarassment of a farang son in law with no job?

What make you think he is marrying a village girl? I don't think there are many village parents (from Isaan?) who can afford to send their daughter to study in the US?

Now how much sin sot did you pay to marry your village wife? :)

  5. You should leave her at once. It is your life that you should worry about - you're NOT in your own country. Being caught with illegal drugs in your own house will put you in jail - yes Thai Jail. If you're convinced she is taking drugs - her and her alone will have to accept it and get help. You can only recommend places for her to get help but you cannot drag her there - it must be her own will. Tough Love, Dont' be an enabler, leaver her at once.

  6. If you are 50 years of age or older and can deposit 800,000 baht in a Thai bank or proof income of 65,000 baht monthly income - you should go for the Non-OA visa (aka Retirement Visa). Apply for a single entry Non-O Visa in the US and convert it into a Non-OA visa when you get here. With this visa you don't ever really have to leave the country (if you don't want to) and just renew your permission to stay each year - providing you have the 800,000 baht in the bank (for 3 months) or 65,000 baht monthly income.

Unfortunately I'm not there yet (under 50 still) - but I will apply for this visa when I reach 50 years of age myself. It's hassle free :-).

I'm sure other will add to this info :-). Good luck.

  7. Obviously you've overstayed for 40 days with no problem (as far as getting in trouble and getting arrested... lol) so staying a few more days wouldn't hurt.

Remember put a big smile be polite and just tell them the truth - They may write "Overstay" on your passport - But I believe they will NOT give you any problem when you return and will give you another 30 days permission to stay (not Visa On Arrival).

    Good luck.

  8. Idiot Farang.... LOL :-) The stamp should say the last day/number of days you may stay in the country :-)...

I doubt if they take credit cards at immigration.

After 40 days over stay why not just fly out to Hanoi, KL, or Singapore and pay your fine at the airport. Just don't get yourself arrested between now and your departure date. I wouldn't do a border run if I were you - too risky and too many road blocks - what if they stop your bus and check everyone's passport....

    Good luck.

  9. There policy has recently changed on non immigrant O visa issue - have you received in the last several months?

@simcity, Lopburi3 is correct, I searched the TV forum re: Brisbane consulate - apparently showing money in the Thai account doesn't do it anymore - it doesn't matter how much money is in it. Only if you're over 50 (for Retirement visa), Married to a Thai or show title of your Thai Condo (for Non-O).

    Here is the thread: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Thai-Visa-Br...amp;hl=brisbane

  10. Thanks. I will follow your advices.. I am gonna looking for a friendly consulate... where can i find it? Do you mean I have to go back to Italy? Or where? I heard about malaysia... I am not sure about it... Thanks again..

Hmmmm obviously you haven't been reading all the advices :) if you're going to apply for the Non-O based on visiting friends and relatives (as far as I know) the (only) two friendly consulates are: Perth (Australia) and Hull (England).

    Add Brisbane (Australia)

I heard Brisbane will not accept Non-O based on visiting friends - however if you can proof you own a condo (property) you can get a Non-O with multi entries. Can anyone confirm this??? I have a friend on the Gold Coast and would like to go there next year for my Non-O visa instead of Perth.

  11. In Thomas Mann's The Magic Mountain (Der Zauberberg) HC goes to visit his cousin at the mountain sanatorium but ends up staying for 7 years. For how many years can one claim to be visiting friends?

However, as the OP stated that he has a very good business outside the Kingdom, he may be able to qualify with the right maneuvers for a long-term 'B' Visa of the no-WP kind.

Good question :) - Indeed the doors are closing to get a Non-O based on visiting friends. I used to get this visa in Bali for the 1st 3 years until finally (last year) that they can no longer issue this visa to me on those grounds :D . That's when I found out the friendly Perth Consulate. But I'm quite sure they sooner or later they too will catch up. I'm lucky as I only need to be on this type visa 1 more time and then I will be 50 and eligible for retirement visa. So my advice for the OP is to use this visa thru Perth until you no longer can and then worry about about (hopefully) in 10 years!!! :D

  12. Thanks. I will follow your advices.. I am gonna looking for a friendly consulate... where can i find it? Do you mean I have to go back to Italy? Or where? I heard about malaysia... I am not sure about it... Thanks again..

  13. Get yourself a Non-Immigrant-O visa with multiple entries valid for 12 months based on Visiting Friends/Relatives. The nearest consulate in the region: Perth - in Europe: Hull.

Must do visa runs every 90 days - if you leave Thailand and re-enter on or before you visa expires you will get an extra 90 days. In other words you can extend your stay up to 15 x 30 days.

Like you I'm not qualified for a retirement visa yet - I've been doing this for the past 4 years now. Visa runs can be a drag to some people, but in my case I don't mind it much - besides I travel a great deal anyway.

PM me if you need more info - good luck.

  14. Selling Copy DVD is illegal in Thailand... and most of us here including me are part of the problem by buying them. However the police are even guiltier by selectively enforcing the law - which can be very confusing. For example it is obvious that most of the DVD shop at Tuckom are selling copy DVDs out in the open why not start with them? All you have to do is go to the beach (Pattaya or Jomtien) not only you will see many copy DVD being sold there you'll see underage kids selling pornos?? Where are the police???

  15. If you have a non imm 'O' visa and filled in the immigration card correctly...especially the part stating your visa number then you should have no problems as its obviously their mistake. If you failed to fill it in correctly however it will depend on the mood of the immigration officer on the day I would reckon. Good luck.

Is this on the departure card? If so, if it were left blank it could be filled in retro\actively, right? :D

Unfortunately (or fortunately) the Visa Number (field) is on the Arrival Card section that's kept by Immigration :) Having said that... you can always go to the BKK Immigration and show them your Non-O Visa and get the stamp corrected - this happened to our son. They have "Wrong Stamp" counter - no questions asked.
