  1. You may want to check out Medical Visa as suggested by 'gotlost' - but like I said LA consulate is not the most helpful - if anything they're very rude :-(. You may want to call smaller honorary consulates such as Houston, Dallas, Portland, etc.

Another way of getting a non-o with multi entries on the basis of visiting friends/relatives is from Perth (Australia) - I took this route myself.

  2. Thanks for the info. Seems a bit complicated, any rumors they will change the process?

Hmmm the requirement is as simple or simpler that most other countries. The two main things are that you're 50 or older and have 800k baht in the bank (or proof of 65K baht monthly income). Other than that you'll need to fill out some forms. :) How much simpler can you expect it to be - it may be a while before they laws change and they will deliver it to you on a silver platter.

  3. Yes, to say I am staying with friends for a year I believe is illegal, but the OP is married, and if he has not got all the required paperwork for the Visa based on Marriage, then use the other method, he will be staying with the person he put down as a friend on the application form, which is correct. Those who say I am staying with a friend for 1 year that is a lot of <deleted>, however, if with wife then not a problem.

But there is nothing on the application that says "Reason: Visiting Friends/Relatives" means you MUST stay with your friend for 1 year. :)

  4. if you do not have all the documents apply for a Non Immigrant O based on visiting friends.

Funny on the other thread you're saying it is illegal to get to get a one-year-multi-o based on visiting friends :)

"I am in agreement, I think it is illegal, as you get a One Year visa for staying with a friend, does the person who gets the Visa actually stay with that person. The Thai person is responsible for the person receiving the Visa, in truth."

  5. @padfoot: First of all you must check if the Swastika is clockwise or counterclockwise :-). If it is clockwise it is a Buddhist Swastika:

In Buddhism, the swastika signifies auspiciousness and good fortune as well as the Buddha's footprints and the Buddha's heart. The swastika is said to contain the whole mind of the Buddha and can often be found imprinted on the chest, feet or palms of Buddha images. It is also the first of the 65 auspicious symbols on the footprint of the Buddha.

However the Swastika (both directions) are also used as symbols in Hindu religion.

The swastikas are ancient symbols and the Nazi's used it for their own evil purpose.

  6. I don't know much about setting up a business here.... I hope other's will help you.

I used to live in Singapore from mid 70 to early 80 - back then they still allow the car park nightly open-air dining - I miss the following dishes sooo much lah:

    1. Roti Pratha

    2. Nasi Lemak

    3. Chilli Crab

    4. Mee hon goreng

    5. Singapore noodle

    6. Nonya and babah food

    7. Sate with peanut sauce

if and when your sidewalk food shop opens here in Thailand (Bangkok?) - be sure to let me know :)

    Good luck

  7. Go to the French school, it is sponsored by the French government.

They want us to speak French.

So it is much, much cheaper than other International schools.

Quite a few Brits and Americans there actually, in the bilingual classes, and as an added bonus, well, they'll speak French... :D

I hope they (the Americans and the Brits) don't become snobs like the French.... :) !!! Just kidding... :D

  8. I am in agreement, I think it is illegal, as you get a One Year visa for staying with a friend, does the person who gets the Visa actually stay with that person. The Thai person is responsible for the person receiving the Visa, in truth.

In reality the OP is working, therefore he should have a Non Immigrant B visa and WP, as you all keep informing others.

There is nothing on the application form that says "You must stay with your friend/relatives for one year" - where did you get this info from?? :)

There is nothing illegal about getting a 1 year Non-O Visa with multiple entry on the basis of visiting friends/relatives.

  9. You can ask anyone coming to visit from the States to go to Smart and Final or Costco and get a roll of general used two parts (Numbered) tickets.... other than that... I don't think they have it here.

    Good luck.

  10. ...if true then the Immi guy was 100% correct to deny the visa

Once the OP gives us the link to the information about his type of account, the discussion can proceed to the next step: his claim that the account should have been accepted because it was accepted for the previous five years, ie his claiming a right based on a precedent.

    Maestro

FYI: 3 years ago we opened a 1 year CD account with TMB at their Pattaya Branch - this account is NOT a savings account - it's a fixed rate interest bearing account. They gave us a book similar to any savings account book you all have. We used this account to extend my partner's retirement visa (1 year permission to stay extension) and it was accepted by Jomtien Immigration. When the account matured and the rate was not so good anyway - we decided to move the funds into a regular savings account which we used to apply for his last year's extension and will (again) use for his next August extension. Who knows maybe CD accounts are NOT accepted anymore.... besides the rates are lousy why tie up your money :) and risk the money being valid for your extension.

  11. Dirk,

I am a retired High School principal from the USA. Classroom teacher for 10 years, Special education. I have taught all subjects in grades K-12.

My English skills, spoken and written, are excellent.

I would base a daily curriculum around his homework or current study area.

My fee per day would be 1000 baht.

I live in the Chonburi area. Contact me if you are interested.

    Thank you.

1000 baht/day to help with school subjects including English... sounds like a real good deal. Our neighbor's son attends BEST and his English skill (Spoken) is very poor.

  12. A couple of months ago we bought two bottles of listerine at Villa Market - they came wrapped together in plastic. The cashier rang only for 1 making them half-price. So we went back to the shelves and bought 1 more pair and again the cashier only rang for 1.

Several weeks later we bought another two bottles wrapped together - and this time a different cashier charged us for 2. Huh?????

  13. She has a regular 9 to 5 job - This is a good start :-).

Be honest to her about everything including your financial situation - i.e: you're not a walking ATM :-) and are not interested to be a sugar daddy.

Don't know how long you've been seeing each other - but if it's only just a short time ago - then get to know each other better. If after (at least) 1 year - you guys are still in love - then maybe take it a step higher.

    Good luck.

  14. Price, Location????????????

If money no problem I'd try View Talay Villas in Jomtien, nice place average price around 60,000 Baht a month, nice villas :D

You honestly think View Talay Villas are nice???? Oh my.... :)

  15. "Cheap Charlie" is a common descriptive term used in Thailand and the Philippines. Local have other words for it. It's descriptive, not derogatory. You're being overly dramatic again.

How about tight wad, or scrooge :)
