  2. Has anyone seen these 'Frito's Corn Chips' in CM?

They used to have cans of corn chips at Kasems Imported Foods that were just like the real Fritos, but, apparently, Thais don't like them for some weird reason (they like tons of other types of corn snacks), so they stopped bringing tham in.

The closest thing is Dorritos, which I always get in Bangkok! :o

  3. There have been MILLIONS of posts about finding good Mexican food in SEA, and the general consensus is that there ISN'T any.

A good Mexican restaurant would fly for sure, but I'm not sure that we are all looking for the same kind of Mexican food.

I would pay $100 US for a real $3.00 California, San Francisco, Mission Street, super-Burrito -of any kind- but I'm not that hip on Tex-Mex, for example, although, I've only had it over here, so I might be more enthusiastic if I'd ever had the real thing.

  4. you are all making excuses to make yourself feel better about following crazy rules.  I have to go report in "only" 4 times per year.  Just go to malaysia or singapore, etc. etc.

does anyone going to our countries have to do this crap?  what does singapore have to do with an american or brit or whoever that goes to work in thailand?

are we all criminals?  are we living in some communist or facist state?  why do we need to report?

why do we have to carry our passports on us at all times?  see above.  our passports are valuable and they are totally disrespected.

people who live and work in our countries don't have all this hoopla and uncertainty always hanging over their heads.  how do you know one day when you go to report, you won't become a victim of extortion or worse?  how can you predict when one day, you won't be allowed back in after a visa run?  you don't.

in our countries, visas are done once, at the beginning.  people are told they are allowed to live and work in the country and that is that.  they can then go live like human beings.  not like animals.

I guess it depends on how much you want to live in Thailand.

I have been here since 1989 and for years, we used to have to take a 5 day trip to Penang every 2 months from Northern Thailand.

Now, I run up to Mai Sai every 3 months, and it is quite easy in comparison, but if I had to go back to the other way, I would do so.

It is amazing the whinging that goes on, on this board; If you don't like it; If you object to Thai ways and Thai morals; If you don't want to live here; just go home! :o

  5. Perhaps it was Georgie Porgie. A noted moderate and upholder of most ridiculous causes. Nice to see you back Tutsi. :D

Tutsi is on my good list for the very honorable thread about his love for his wife, but I can "beat-up" pretty much anyone on either forum with my brain; Why would I sink to threats of physical violence?

Violence is for the stupid! :o

  6. Actually gent, I wasn't baiting you. I was joking around with you. There is a difference.

However, I can see that you are getting a bit paranoid, and you are right, I don't need you following me around threatening me again, online, or in real life, so I bid you adieu. :o

  7. can I have my initial member name reinstated? as I had over 1000 posts and have been a very good boy!  :D  - tornado's avatar cannot really be changed, but "the gentleman's" can................ how about a poll?  :D  :o

Hey gent, how about if you change your nick to "Charles Manson on Angel Dust" :D , so newbies will have a better idea of who they are dealing with?:D

  8. I had the respect to type a diplomatic and honest post in a hope to make the forum a better place for all involved.

It just goes to show what little they think of 99% of their members and I take their ignorance as a spit in the face.

They have said that they are going to get back to you, so why not give them some leeway?

They have often had to put up with you, as they have had to put up with me, at certain points in time when we were not on our best behavior, so why not show a little gratitude for past lenience.

It's pretty easy to see you are hooked on posting here, so don't burn your bridges.

By the way, Bluecat is over at The Bear-Pit, already upsetting the locals! :o

  9. 99% of the men who live in Thailand are sex tourists of some type and the ones who claim not to be are liars or hypocrites.

I'm not saying that this many men pay outright for sex; Many are too tight with a penny to do it the easy way, however, they are here for the sex or love or female attention that they can't get elsewhere.

There are the young "handsome" men who feel perfectly justified dating - and screwing- young Thai Girls, acting as if they have the same culture as Westerners, and leaving them when things get too complicated and moving on to a new victim.

There are also unattractive younger men and older men who come here and think that all their dreams have come true. They can "help" some young thing out with the rent and then call the shots in a relationship, however, reality rarely turns out this way and they go from paid relationship to paid relationship wondering why "true love" evades them, and growing ever more bitter. :D

There are also the expats who are married, but want to live here because it is so easy to fool around. The best ones of this lot will never fool around in the town that they live in, but whenever they leave town, boys will be boys! :o

  10. When I first came to live in Thailand, a black guy opened the first good Farang restaurant in Chiang Mai, America Restaurant. His name was Willy and he had been a celebrity Chef in Hawaii, on TV and in the newspapers.

He was a great big, jolly guy and everyone liked him. :D

The funny thing was that none of the hookers would admit that they had slept with him, although most of them did. :D

I still remember that every time he would go to Penang on a visa run, the police would take him - and only him - off the bus and make him bend over and spread his cheeks for a search, and he could never figure out why. :D

We didn't want to hurt his feelings, but every time he went to Penang this would happen, and every time we would end up discussing it. Someone finally said out loud that it might be because he is black, but he acted like he'd never even considered the possibilty, and was pretty sure that that wasn't it. :o

I've heard that he is in Mexico now, but if he reads this somehow... Willy we talk about you often and please know that you are missed!

  11. Have a look there by all means. I myself decided not to join. It says world politics but what I found, nearly 900 topics on US-internal matters (perhaps some UK),

just about 50 Asian and European topics.

I cannot really see where are the world politics, 2 out of about 260 countries in this world.

Over 100 jokes, most of them US-related, so when you laugh you are bashing the country....

The discussions seem to be just black or white, you don't like one guy you are a hero to half and a commie to the other half, or the other way round.

No real fun to me, no resolutions in discussions. but than this only IMHO.

Pretty accurate Axel, It really should be called the America Bashers site.

Either you stick up for the US or you hate it worse than Nazi Germany.

One funny thing is that no one ever criticizes anyone on "their" team, no matter how nutty they are, but they get really indignant about all the wackos on the other side and demand that they be banned; It's really a bunch of liars and hypocrites railing at each other.

I've always been against having a Bear-Pit, but I felt for a long time that I had to defend my country. Now there are lots of nutty fundamentalist Christians watching out for the homeland, and they are a lot more serious than me, so I have mostly retired.

The whole thing makes me sick really, but it's easy to get caught up in.

All I can say to past adversaries is, you wouldn't like it if it were your country! :o

  12. OK. Perhaps I can shed a little bit of light on the matter and, at the same time, lighten the subject a little:

    Only in America

Only in America can a homeless combat veteran live in a cardboard box and a draft dodger live in the White House.

Only in America...can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance...

And on and on and on....

A "super-moderator" responds to a plea against America bashing with a whole bunch of America bashing, and then closes the thread. Kind of says it all, doesn't it? :o:D

  13. My friends have always thought of me as fairly normal with perhaps a few slight neuroses, until I got addicted to the Bear-Pit and Thaivisa.com. Now even my Thai office staff are giving me pittying looks, and I still can't stop, and I'm the boss!

Work zips by every day on-line and goes so slowly off-line.

    Please save me! :o
