  1. If you can find a small Karaoke bar away from the tourist areas, it can be a good place to practice speaking Thai. Many of them have karaoke machines that require coins to play the music. So unless someone pays it can be nice and quiet.

    :):D:D

That's just great! It sort of defeats the purpose of calling them karaoke bars. :D I can attest to the fact that there are a LOT of poor singers though. The Karaoke bars near my hotel back onto a lake and the singing carries over to my room above the lake... YIKES! :D

That's one of the great things about these bars. If you want to sing but are rubbish, it's still ok. No one judges your ability, it's all good fun and that's all.

  3. Most of the time i went to Karaoke alone it was in Issan. Chaiyaphum to be precise. Not too far from Korat but i never had any experience of problems or boyfriends. Possibly because they knew I was not interested in taking a girl? Who knows!

  4. Loud music is a great way to stop me going into a bar.

I was at the unofficial ThaiVisa pissup last weekend and the first thing i noticed about the bar was that the music was quiet enough for everyone to be able to have a conversation. It was the Cross Bar on Suk Soi 23. Any other decent bars like this around?

  5. I thought they used bricks for me! If i'm ever out riding my bike on the street, it's much more fun jumping the holes that form when the bricks sink into the ground, or imagining that an area of bricks that all stick up at funny angles are like a set of tree roots. there's always a bright side. Some times you just have to be a bit daft to find it.

  6. nidge, I am not going to remove that Thai word...

Please avoid writing Thai without giving the proper English translation. Understandable for everyone.

Not everybody on this board can read Thai

Thai is allowed in the Thai language forum.

Ooops, sorry i wrote it all quick and missed the translation, and spelt it wrong it Thai to). เช็ดน้ำตา = Ched Num Tah. = wipe tears.

  7. I've been in a few Karaoke bars but mostly out of Bangkok. I never go to posh ones but head for the ones that look like they are made of driftwood and corrigated iron. They can be intimidating to enter but i have never been made to feel unwelcome. Sometimes i have been invited over to other tables for a chat. If i get really drunk, i end up singing, (destroying), ขอเช็ดน้ำตา by Clash.

It's all good fun and normally means i'm welcome back the next time. I can't remember how much beer was last time but it's not expensive. No idea about the girls as my wife normally comes with me.

  8. Brian tells me that he is laying on a curry for tomorrow, it smells the business as well.

    Curry with chips?

    Don't joke. It's a delicacy north of Watford. :)

No joke intended, i've lived in't North. I know it's a delicacy although not quite up to the level of Pudding, chips and curry sauce. Now if that was on the menu tonight it would be a night to remember for sure :D

  9. Hi Nidge

If I know you are you sure theres no English pennies floating around in there :)

    Hope your well

    14.958 Baht and 23 pence :D

I don't remember what english pennies look like anymore. Pretty sure you need a few hundred of then to buy a beer now though!

I'm good, how are you Ace?

  10. 25C outside and you'll see me wearing a jacket too.

Nidge how are you buddy? Been riding your cool mountain bike a bunch? Like others bring on the cool weather. I like it all really, hot, cool, hard rain, dry, just enjoy

it all. But if I have to pick bring me a dark hard rain storm those are my favorites.

Been pretty dry here in CM and the one time there was a 10 hour hard rain wife and I are away in Krabi.

Not ridden for over a week, had a crash recently and am suffering with tendonitis in my shoulder. Need to start riding again soon though if only to keep warm!

  11. I bought a house when i was married and i paid 100%. It was of course in her name. When we divorced I was legally entitled to half of it's value but not half the value of the land. But remember, just because you are legally entitled to 50%, it does not mean you are actually going to get that much.

  12. I've used Rangstit hospital a few times and not really had any problems with it. It's not the cleanest or most modern but for my kids the treatment was fine.

The only minor complaint i had was that if you stay over night there is only a fold-up "camping" bed for visitors to sleep on. One of my kids was in there for 3 nights with pneumonia and i was knackered by the time she was sent home.

  13. I just checked my local weather station and was surprised at the change in weather. At the bottom of each page is the expected max-min temp for the next 3 weeks and a little graphic showing if it will be sunny, cloudy etc. I noticed next week, (and the week after), the graphic is of a little man wrapped in his coat. The temp could drop down to only 31C during the day!!!!

I'm going to start looking for my thermals in case it drops below 25C.

  14. I've seen some for sale on the side of the road near Khlong 4 between future park and Thanyaburi, but I never paid attention to wheel size. Is there any particular reason he wants a foldable one? Full size ones are small enough to put in the back of a car once the wheels are off.
