  1. Pre-Import Process

    1.

An importer or any person wishing to import live animals into the Kingdom of Thailand should receive an Import Permit from the Department of Livestock Develpoment (DLD) prior to an importation.

    2.

The importer should contact a veterinary official at the International Animal Quarantine Station (AQS) at the port of entry , and request for information on a protocol and an animal health requirement of importation of live animals into Thailand.

    3.

The importer should personally submit an application request (Form No 1/1) to import live animals into the country to an AQS veterinary offical , at least 15 days prior to an importation

The application should be attached with a copy of the importer ' s identification card. He could appoint a representative to submit the application , in written paper , and attach copies of identification cards of himself and his representative.

    4.

The DLD authority will necessarily examine animal disease status of the country of origin before an issuance of Import Permit which will include an appropriate animal health requirement.

The animal health requirements for importation of live animals into Thailand shall be periodically revised to cope with the present situation and/or the current animal disease status.

    5.

The importer should send the Import Permit to a duly veterinary authority of the country of origin in order to prepare , inspect , test , and certify those imported animals in compliance with the animal health requirement set by DLD.

    6.

The importer should confirm an exact date of arrival of the imported animals to an AQS veterinary official at the port of entry to prepare all facilities concerned , at least 3 days in advance.

    ===============

The rules state that I must personally submit an application request to import my pet at least 15 days prior to my pet's importation. That means I must be physically in Bangkok or assign someone else to do it for me on my behalf.

This is what I plan to do. I will look for an apartment to rent in Bangkok. Once that has been settled, I shall fill up this form at the Bangkok AQS airport before I fly home to arrange my move to Bangkok, which includes getting my cats vaccinated, micro-chipped, etc etc. I also need to book a flight to transport me and my cats to Bangkok. Once I have my flight details, I should inform the AQS at least 3 days before I leave.

  2. My research on the importation of pets into Thailand...

    Animal Epidemics Act B.E.2499 (1956):

---> Scroll down to see a list of fees. 100 THB per cat/dog.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Things I am unsure about. It seems like most if not all pet owners did not have to quarantine their pets. However, some pet owners paid 7000 THB per animal on arrival while some paid only 100 THB. Did they get ripped off?

  3. I was wondering how much I need to pay to import each of my 4 cats to Thailand. Some people mentioned that they were charged 7000THB for their dogs on arrival. Some refused to pay and they let them go. Some were never asked to pay anything.

    On this web page:

    http://www.dld.go.th/dcontrol/move/imex_e.html#L1

"The importer must pay an import fee as prescribed by the Ministerial Regulation , which was issued in accordance with the Animal Epidemics Act B.E. 2499 (1956)"

I wonder what this means exactly?

On this web page it says there is a 30 day quarantine period for cats and dogs:

I have read posts about people doing the quarantine at home?

  4. If you have no bank account in Thailand and use your computer and internet for forex trading as a hobby, I cannot se any illegal kind of crime against the laws, trading currencies in a professional way can be another point of view but to use nit as a hobby it seems no problem but the best id you keep quiet about it.

There are many other crimes that can be used by internet and i will not tell any examples in this board but dont forget that almost no one are anonymous at the internet.

BTW many ppl use to try this kind of hobby but most of them cannot make any big income in this kind of "work"

Forex trading is definitely legal, moral and ethical. To me, it isn't a hobby - It's a nice way to earn money if you do it right.

  5. I use Audacity to record audio tapes into wave or mp3 files. Then I select the whole track and "Normalize" the recording to improve the sound. Not sure how to get rid of the slight buzzing sounds. You need to adjust the sound volume of your tape player and line in volume levels to get it right. Too loud and your recording will be crap.

  6. I am looking for some advice on broadband internet too.

If the apartment I rent does not come with a direct telephone line, is it possible to get a cable internet connection if the apartment has cable/satellite tv?

I heard it is very troublesome for a foreigner to apply for a direct phone line to subscribe to broadband internet...

Which internet service providers are the best?

  7. I am in a similar situation. I am from Singapore and I would like to travel in Thailand for more than 30 days.

According to ministry of foreign affairs' web site here:

    http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2482.php?id=2490

passport holders from 40 countries and 1 special administrative region – Hong Kong SAR – are not required to obtain a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes and will be permitted to stay in the Kingdom for a period of not exceeding 30 days on each visit. Foreigners who enter the Kingdom under the Tourist Visa Exemption category may re-enter and stay in Thailand for a cumulative duration of stay of not exceeding 90 days within any 6-month period from the date of first entry.

I do not need to apply for a visa. I checked my passport when I last travelled to Thailand, the immigration chop said I could stay there for 30 days. I am not sure what some of you guys are suggesting when you say we should apply a 60-day tourist visa when the Thai government says we don't need to?

Even if I stay for the maximum 90 days, I still cannot re-enter Thailand in a 6 month period. Let's say I travel to Thailand for 3 months and I come back home, I have to wait for another 3 more months before I can enter Thailand again, isn't that right? That means I can't do visa runs?
