  1. Touch motion sensors. Grade B+ ( much better than samsung's omnia )

Better than the original Omnia or the fake Omnia?

Have any of you seen the fake Omnia? Its about the same price like 3,700 baht.

Is fake Omnia or fake iphone better?

I don't know why people complain about the touch screen on the Omnia. Obviously it cannot compare to the Iphone, since they are different technologies, but I certainly have no trouble using it without a stylus. They must be using an old rom or not calibrating it properly.

  2. RAM is a big issue. You can get 4gb but there are issues apparently with it only being able to utilise 3.?gb. I don't know why.

3 gigs is the limit for a 32 bit operating system. If you go with Vista 64 bit then you can utilize as much RAM as you can cram in your laptop. Core 2 Duo processors are 64 bit and if you buy a laptop that can handle it then I highly recommend installing a 64 bit version of Vista.

My investigations revealed that there are serious issues with 64bit computers as regards to drivers and the interaction with other hardware. Not much good to have a top laptop and have to buy new printers etc. is it ?

This was when Vista first came out. I've been using my Gateway with Vista 64 for half a year now and have no issues. 640GB down to 80GB full of games and applications. Everything is well here.

  3. How does it work in Thailand if I want to look at the web using my mobile to check things. Does this count as data (even thought I don't have a laptop) or voice mins?

Do they do packages for this if I want voice mins too on DTAC, 1-2-Call, etc?

    Thanks

    I am using DTAC's 20-hour package.

it only costs 109 Baht per month. They have a promotion that doubles your time to 40 hours with a one month validity. It's a bargain. That's getting a total of 40 hours for only 109 Baht.

The speed depends generally on your location. I only use it when I am away from my computer or where connection is not available.

Give DTAC a call at 1678.

I'm using this as well, but 99baht instead. No talk time. Incoming free of course. Calls are like 1.5 or 1.8Baht per minute.

There are lots of plans with mix and match data+voice. Check their websites or g o to your local mall and get some flyers.

There are some decent promotions every now and then so keep an eye out for them.

  4. Thanks for prompt answers...

As I mentioned before, I do not have to much clue about IT; so I thought that it was as easy changing cpu, as like increasing the ram memory.

I do frequently defrag & cleaning; and both disks are half full.

But, just after reading another thread regarding some cpu problems; I realise that I should send it for "physical" cleaning because it's overheating as well... And the cat sitting on my knees while writing this post might be a part of the problem!?!

Over time computers tend to get slow. Usually due to a lot of applications installed, viruses, spyware(find a free scanner for these 2). Ram upgrade can help a lot. 1 Gig is really the minimum these days, 2 would be good if you are running Vista.

You said you already defrag regularly. I would try to check and see what programs can be uninstalled(you might be surprised to find what is installed).

You might have a lot of programs loaded on startup. Run msconfig and disable unnecesary items(i would use google for how to do this and find out what applications can be disabled).

Aside from that all you can do is a format and reinstall of the OS. When I was younger I used to do this every 3 months. My PC was always quick and responsive.

  5. I can't help but feel that those of you ridiculous enough to say he deserves to be jailed for 2 years are absolutely racist and a step away from joining the KKK. Excuse me but YOU wouldn't be upset to be forced to MISS YOUR PLANE for absolutely no reason? All you need to do is raise your voice a bit in this country and YOU BAD MAN! Since when is being jusitifiably upset a JAILABLE offence in any country?! Some of you are so blatantly racist or just plain stupid it's sad.

Excuse me but wasn't him that brought race in to the issue? You're an idiot sabum, it's people like you that cause problems by calling other people racist.

What if the guy driving his car, and late to a party. Police officer pulls him over looks at his drivers license, suspects it is a fake. questions him. The driver then gets angry and snatches his drivers license back and starts swearing at the policeman.. I think in many parts of the world the police officer would arrest him on the spot and possibly charge him for attempt at attacking a police officer. Jail time is most likely as well.

Assuming what we heard in the news is correct, I really dont' think 3 weeks jailtime is too much. But now that we ware talking 2 years, i think it's getting out of hand.

  6. I'm not a big Acer fan but their prices are fairly decent. At your budget, you might be able to get a HP. I passed by HH International the other day and saw one for under 30K and it actually looked pretty stylish.

I tried a cut and paste off their website but it didn't turn up properly. But you can try it yourself at http://www.hwhinter.com/price.php

Once there you need to check the "notebook box" then go to the bottom of the table there are 2 blinking buttons. click on the left one and it should bring up the list.

Go in person and take i look though.

  7. Being i'm still a new person with this phone, have played with the 1st version iphone would like answers to the following questions

    1. Is the iphone from true unlocked already or locked. I ask this cause I have the phone now and just changed out the sim card from true put in dtac and it works fine.

    2. From what I understand jailbreaking the phone allowed you to add more sources for applications on installer, I've already gone and downloaded many applications from the itunes store, so would it be worth jailbreaking this phone, although if the phone is already unlocked how can it be jailbroken then

    3. I'm confused on the firmware update when you sync the iphone with itunes I understand this fixes bug on the phone but has been known to brick jailbroken phones though. So what about the phone from true if I update will it brick my phone or just primarily fix whatever bugs are out there

if you can provide any sources, links, answers on this question it would be most useful to me. Have a good day

I am not 100% sure since I am not a True Iphone users, but from what I have heard, it is indeed unlocked. You can use it with AIS or DTAC if you wanted. This does make sense since you can buy the phone without a contract from TRUE.

Jailbreaking essentially lets you install software you dl off the net for free. Like stuff you normally would have to buy from Itunes you can dl them and install without paying. (don't ask me for details. I don't own an Iphone Only played around with one for a few days)

I don't think updating necessarily bricks the phone. If I am correct, the problem is that the newest firmware cannot be jailbroken/unlocked yet(though i think u can get something called stealth/turbo sim to remedy this).

There are tons of links on the web. Just google it or read some Iphone specific forums.

  8. I have decided to buy a new laptop. My last laptop (bought in Bangkok) was an HP Pavillion bought for 44,000 THB, used it for two years without a any problem. but unfortunately i lost it in a taxi, now i have checked few laptops in market and now im very confused about which laptop shall i buy. I will normally use the laptop for internet browsing watching movies online, n a little bit of photo editing and will mostly use it in home only.

My budget is in the 25,000 - 30,000 THB. Even i dnt know which proccessor, which brand n what specifications will be good in this price. so it all gets a little confusing for me. One thing i have decided on my own is that i will go for less than 14 inch screen but not the small netbooks.

All comments and opinions are welcome. Please HELP.

    Thank you in advance.

    Sunny

Being in Thailand, we dont' have as many choices as North America. Personally, I am a fan of Asus. They build quality and reliable products.

But, more importantly I think you should get something with a Core 2 Duo processor and 2 Gigs of ram or more.. I would just go out and take a look at what appeals to you.

What kind of photo editing do you want to do? Are u sure you want to go less than 14"?

  9. It is a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack so any standard headphones can be connected.

I bought mine in Singapore a month ago and I really like it....

    Slightly off topic...

Where can I get an adapter so i could use a 3.5 in my phone that only has a 2.5 jack?

I bought mine at a powerbuy at the Mall(i think that was it). Less than 100 Baht.

  10. Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my laptop HDD to a WD scorpio black 320G or Hitachi travelstar7K320.

When I go to Panthip in BKK, I see components like external HDD or DDR ram nicely packed in a box, but HDD are just stacked up behind the glass counter in an ESD protected plastic bag.

This is a precision part, it doesn't like shocks, so handled carefully.

Maybe already opened and touched on the printboard. How do I know I got a new genuine one, not a refurbished or returned one by another costommer?

I read here on the forum to look out for the distributer sticker, but that is easily faked.

And if I leave the old HDD as it is, can I put it back in when the new one fails, without having to reinstall anything (OS or drivers,..) ?

I bought my WD scorpio black at Hardware House international. You can get it at almost any mall, Central. You might save a couple hundred baht buying from smaller vendors at Pantip, but HH is so easy to find, and frankly i have bought many things from them in the past, and all is well so far.

  11. My main problem: my mobile keeps a record of everyone who ever calls me (date, time, number, missed, recieved etc) including everyone who's not my girlfriend, which is an issue when my girlfriend uses my phone and glances at the call records.

Can anyone explain how I could stop my phone keeping call records or something. I've got an I-mobile.

    solutions?

Seriously, I think the problem is the girl not the phone. I would kill myself if my wife does that. She doesn't even touch my laptop because she has her own.

But anyways, can't your phone delete records of calls or messages?

If not, maybe get a phone with Windows Mobile/Iphone.

  12. Been happily downloading Youtube music vids using a Firefox add-on called Fast Downloader, works like a charm.Icon on screen>left click>my docs.>my music. finished, plays in Realplayer,to easy for a computer hopeless like me.All was fine, not so now, click to download,Applian Technologies appears telling me what I need and no download. What I need is for is for things to go back they were. Any suggestions.

    THANKS.

This may not be the exact solution you want but you can try the guide on this website. http://r4ccoon.wordpress.com/2008/10/12/do...downloadhelper/

A while back I was trying to watch some streaming video of an Asian Tv series. I tried every plugin I could find on the firefox website but it wouldn't work.

Truth is a not all websites do their streaming video the same way. I was lucky to find this guide. So far it has not failed me for any website.

  13. I need a new phone, and there seems to be a plethora of Chinese made phones at the stands with good spec inc. TV, dual sim etc for around 5K baht.

I wonder if anyone has any experience of these, are they junk or is there a good quality bargain phone amongst them ? Any particular make that is better than the rest ?

A friend bought a Nokia 8800 Arte last year that turned out to be a Chinese copy, it wasn't much good.

    Cheers

My GF bought 2 different ones from Udon Thani last year. Both dual sim ,both are horrible. The touch screens look ok, but they are so inaccurate.

And AFAIK the dual sim functionality is not as easy as you think. You don't just put 2 sim cards and everything works magically. If you want to make a call with the other sim you have go into the menu and enable it(I think Samsung has a new phone that makes this a lot easier). Very tedious and frustrating.

You are better off getting a used nokia/pda phone for 5K.

  14. I just got my T-mobile USA G1 phone unlocked by paying some online unlocking service $25 on Paypal for the HTC code. I am using DTAC 20 hours of internet per month promotion which now gives 40 hours for a little over 105 baht per month. The problem is that that this new Google Android technology is not designed for limited internet access. This phone has a mind of it's own and wants to go on line all the time to sync data from the hand set to Google on line. Are there any other G1 owners out there in Thailand that would like to help a newcomer out on the ins and outs of this new technology?

You will probably want to try a phone/pda dedicated forum like Modaco.com or maybe even xda-developers.com. I used these for my Omnia and find them to be great resources.

  15. Im going back to the Uk for 4 weeks and I need to get a laptop as my machine backhome was built in 2001.

Firstly Ive never had a laptop before so Im not sure which brands are worth looking at. Ill need something with a good graphics card and at least 2mb of Ram, more if possible.

    Any suggestions?

Second question, Is to be cheaper to buy the machine back in the UK or in Thailand before I go with the Current exchange rate. It would be easier for me to buy it here so I can load all the programs and move work over from my machines in Thailand. If I buy back in the UK ill have to stick everything on a portable hard drive to take back.

    Thanks

Last summer I picked up a Gateway in the States on the way back to Bangkok. The price was really cheap. And since I am a gamer. There wasn't even anything close to the specs available here in Thailand.

If you want something with a good graphics card you choices are pretty limited here. Maybe a Geforce 8600GT at the best. And those probably cost well over 60K.

  16. I just got the 3G iPhone with Truemove. I want to sell my unlocked 2G iPhone that I bought back in 2007. I know how much they sell for on eBay, but I'd rather sell it here in Thailand and not deal with customs. How much are they selling for here in Thailand?

If you are fluent in Thai or have a Thai friend try to sell it on thaisecondhand.com I just sold a 3g AT&T 8gb model for 15,500. It was in fair condition with some scratches.. From what i've seen, you can probably get 12,000 out of it at the most. I've tried my luck here but get very few replies and low offers.

I posted my ad on thaisecondhand.com around 9pm got a call 30 mins later and it was sold at 11PM.

  17. hihi,

can u suggest me a good and convenient video converter fit 3gp, i have tried some of video converters, but u know it doesnt fit for mine?? please!!! :o

Do a search on google for SUPER. Its free fast and easy to use. Better than any paid software I have tried.

  18. Greetings All

I am thinking of buying a state-of-the-art mobile telephone, but I'm not sure of which alluring model to select. I have tentatively made a short-list of the three feature- packed phones, although I will expand this list if someone recommends a better option . My shortlist is made up of - the Sony – Ericsson X1, Nokia's N97 and the Samsung I990 model . The price of each of these phones is relatively similar, and each comes with many attractive telephony features, that I'm sure will be helpful and fun, as well.

I really don't know which one to select. Does anyone here have any information or preference that would help me in making a final selection ??

    Roderick

If you want a phone for mainly making calls and maybe some multimedia I would say get a Nokia or even Iphone(easy to use, looks nice)

If you are like me and like to install lots of stuff on my phone and don't mind windows mobile then the Omnia or the Xperia are good choices.

I have owned an Omnia for 2 months and recently had a chance to play with the Xperia and here is what i like and dislike about both.

    Omnia

    + good camera

    + good battery life

+ screen is a little larger than 3.2 vs 3.0 inch

    + lighter

    - doesn't feel as solid as Xperia or my old Asus

    - no stylus built in. it's external (i actually don't use it anymore. i managed to configure it so that it's extremely finger friendly)

    - proprietary audio jack

    Xperia

+ higher screen resolution so everything looks more crisp and clear

+ keyboard (i dont use QWERTY much but when needed it works well)

    + feels more sturdy

    - it's a little bulky

Overall I like the Omnia more because I am not a fan of phones with QWERTY.

That being said I now have my eye on the HTC Touch HD, mainly because of the large screen with WVGA resolution.

  19. Hi,

I want to buy a new 42 inch Plasma TV and am trying to decide between the Samsung Series 4 and the Panasonic TH-42PV8MT. Does anyone own either one of these and would like to offer their opinion or opinions in general as to whether one is better than the other?

Both are 29,990 Baht at my local electrical store. There is also an LG one for 25,000 but I'm leaning towards the other x2 at the moment.

    Thanks

Please, please get a Pioneer, you will love it forever.

I got a 50" and it is just great.

Yep. Pioneer Kuro and you will never think twice.

  20. Can anyone please advise what would be the best course of action with regards to travel adaptors in Thailand.

    I will be flying over in the next few weeks and wanted some advice on the following;

Should I purchase a travel adaptor from the UK to bring over to Thailand?

    Which one would i need?

Do i need to be concerned with voltage differences between the UK and Thailand which would then make a difference to the adaptor I purchase?

    Thanks

Before I left Canada I bought a travel adapter kit (i think it was kensington or belkin. can't remember) and it's work without any probglems. Bought come cheap ones here in MBK and well.. I lost a router and a set of Sony Wireless Headphones.

I would recommend you buy one from home.

Also look at the adapter itself. For example my laptop has 100-240v 50-60hz so it works in Canada and Thailand without any problems. As for the router that I lost it was 120v and 60hz only.

  21. "the iphone in the US cost only $199 for 8g and $299 for 16g....."

ONLY, if you qualify for the low-cost upgrade. Otherwise, the prices are substantially higher. Too, you need to enter into a two-year service contract with AT+T.

Yep. The $199 is the down payment, not the cost. The 2 year contract will cost you well over $2000 and you won't know what percentage of that goes towards the phone price. My guess would be about $500 - 600 :o

Its like $400 for the phone + contract. With no contract it's another $400. I guess you could buy the phone sign up with a fake name and credit card and never pay the contract then move to Thailand. Otherwise it really isn't much cheaper(if at all) to buy the Iphone from USA anymore.

  22. As I said.

    I don't want it.

    But ladies are sometimes different.

The phone looks nice and that is very very important.

So, if it is able to take decent photos, play music, make calls and send messages, then this might be enough.

What I wanted to know is if anybody owns this phone and can share some experiences regarding "my" prerequisites.

They won't like it. If its anything like the old Iclones, my wife who is Thai hates it. She gave it to her 11 year old cousin and i'm not even sure he likes it.

    Save your money and time.

It really can't do any of the things u mentioned above well. Just get her a Nokia she'll be much happier.
