I used to assume that Kentucky Fried Chicken had been changed to just KFC to make it easier on our Thai brethren. I believe now that it was a more sinister move. The ol' colonel ran into problems with trade discription and various lawsuits were pending because the stufff they cook up can not be legally described as chicken anymore.
Hence KFC. I'm not sure what the "C" stands for now. Maybe "Creature" or "Crap".
Anyway, certainly tastes like <deleted>.

Yeah, well done Pepe, you've gone and made loads of friends here, me ol' china!
I think you'll find that veteran expats are usually quite careful where they direct their criticism and it is usually quite justified.
I enjoy living here and have done so for more than a decade and in that time I have come to realize that Thailand, with it's many wonderful qualities, is certainly not perfect.
It is not easy to live here and if you should chose to do so I'm sure you will encounter many problems along the way.
I have many friends who do not particularly like it here but have both business and family committments so can not just pack up and leave.
Anyway......whatever.

I believe the correct medical term for this condition is "swamping".

Maybe Ill have to get a new refrigiration device,,,,, My old lady keeps trying to put food in ours....
LOL!!
I with you on the vodka tutsi but I generally buy Finlandia. Price between 480-520 for 750ml. Almost identical to Absolute in my view and you get more for less.
The best I've had so far is Grey Goose which I bought from the Duty Free coming in to Don Muang (next to the baggage claim). 1,380 a litre and quite simply, superb. Distilled in France in only small batches. Try it if you get the chance.
A large vodka with a generous squeeze of lime topped up with soda, helps one get through these face meltingly hot days.

I agree with Sickboy, Asahi is a good, clean beer. It's a Japanese beer, but is it brewed in Thailand?
Just checked the label and surpisingly it says
"Brewed and bottled under supervision of Asahi Breweries Ltd., Tokyo, Japan. By Khon Kaen Breweries, Khon Kaen, Thailand"
That's why you only pay 58 baht a bottle.
I'd better open it now, it'll get warm.

No, never heard of him but I listened to a bit on the bubbaarmy site yesterday.
Good stuff. Thanks for that Mai Krap.

Used to drink Chang but just couldn't handle the 'changovers' the next day.
I've drank Heineken for years even though it's really not that good.
Now I buy Asahi which is far superior and very clean and only 58 baht a big bottle from Carrefour.
I welcome the addition of Tiger to the market. Great beer. Never had San Miguel though.
All this has made me thirsty.
-
Can you give me the url for the bubba channel, please?
Cheers.

Why not consider selling the bike? Would that not be easier? Since the bike is registered in your wife's name there will be problems if you take it away. You have already said that you are unable to ride it alone. Get the cash and get outta there.
You can always get another bike in Pattaya.
Good luck.

Sick Boy.....Simon David Williamson, the character created by Irvine Welsh.
Also a cool brand of skateboard clothing.
And I've always got a bad cough.

He is a young handsome man without a care in the world, and it is rumored that a string of gorgeous Thai girls keep him in high-style. I can personally verify that he spends most of his time lounging beside the swimming pool surrounded by Thai babes and his mate Crazy Jan.
Do I detect a spot of jealousy here?

You're all a bunch of hopeless scaremongerers.
Why not just go back to to your home country once every 15 months and get a 1 year non-O visa. Easy as piss, just what is the big deal?
All Asian consulates have a poor reputation for handing out visas freely, once you are back in your home country though you are calling the shots.
Surely you've all got family to see back home anyway.
JJ
You sound just like me as a newbie.
Better curb that attitude sunshine, it's really not very clever.
I much rather be a hopeless scaremongerer that a total ######.

I crossed the border at Mae Sai 2 days ago to activate the second entry on my tourist visa. The whole process went without incident and took only 10 minutes.
However..... this time I noticed they have stamped the word "WALK" above my entry stamp.
This is obviously done to make it easier for the immigration officials to count the number of border crossings.
Looks like you were right Dr. Pat.
Repect as always.

133 and I'm apparently a "facts curator". Rushed it a bit though.
Nothing to do with IQ but this is an interesting site.
I was impressed it got 'guitar pick' in 20.

Still only 2 submissions?

Truely a great loss.

I've often wondered that myself, Bluecat. Mind you, former prime minister Banharn Silipa-Archa managed to "earn" his masters degree with a large part of it written in French!
Of course upon completion he was so exhausted he'd forgotten what it all meant!
I think I might buy one of them doctorates meself!

Sorry about my last post. I was just on one....
Your dog will find it rather warm right now so use a bit of common sense.

i got to admited the man is awesome, he doesn't come from a rich family, made it on his own, you got to give him credit for that
No I haven't!
I wouldn't give him the steam off my... the time of day!

My dog is used to cool dry weather. What should I expect when we make the change to the hot humid weather of Thailand?
You should expect a hot humid dog of course!
What else would you expect?
Of course people walk their bloody dogs in Thailand.
Any more stupid questions?
Did you just wake up this morning and decide to move to Thailand, and then, after breakfast, thought... "I wonder what Thailand's like..... darling, where's Thailand?"
Judging by your other posts you really don't have a scooby doo.
Sorry if you find me rather abrasive, but that's just me.

Nam Kao
Ignorance like yours is precisely why this book has to be written and translated.
I disagree, but if you have the time to waste, then go for it.

I found "The Merchant" a bit scabby. Drab, mosquito infested rooms and the complimentary breakfast was crap.
The Cititel directly opposite is light years better for around 120 RM or The City Bayview around the corner down Leith Street for about the same.
I used Sharma Travel on Leith Street, Mr Honey took care of my visa for me. Superb service. He also booked me a room at The City Bayview at a discount.
Once I'd dropped my passport in I went up to Batu Ferringi beach in the North and stayed at the beautiful Casuarina Resort. Around 220 Rm. Much better than hanging around in Georgetown.
All in all a rather pleasant trip.

This, according to one newspaper, was one of the reasons that Duang was acquitted.
"Based on the appearance of the wound on Suwichai's head, forensic scientific tests indicated that he had been shot at point-blank range. All prosecution witnesses testified that they had seen Duang standing one metre from him as he let his outstretched arm drop to his side"
Obviously one metre, or arms length, is not considered close enough to be point-blank.

I sat drinking my morning coffee at the local newsagents today and the girl there noticed me shaking my head at the "Not Guilty" report in The Nation.
She says, "Mai dee, na?.... Nee keu muang Thai."
Sometimes I just despair with this country.
