  1. Coupla years ago some colleagues of mine wanted to go to Pattaya for the weekend. they were a singaporean and a guy from bhutan. I was not interested in staying in Pattaya but they wanted to see the nightlife so we compromised and decided to stay in Jomtien. I had travelled the width and breadth of Thailand but not to places like Pattaya and jomtien......normally not on my agenda of interesting places to see.

Anyway, found a nice place to stay down a small road right along the beach. First impression, yeah ok not bad can handle this. My idea was to go into Pattaya with the guys and have a night out but be able to return to the peace and quiet of Jomtien. Well everything went well until the next morning when we were eating breakfast and saw a quite old euro guy walk past hand in hand with a thai guy. Fine, each to their own. But then the euro guy (who was only wearing sluggoes -brief swimmers) stands against the wall and has a piss in broad daylight and in plane view of anyone who walked past.

my initial thought was, you @#$^$#, why do you have to do that and ruin my day. This said it all to me....this guy had absolutely no respect for Thailand or it's people.

Slightly off track but anyway I would have certainly announced my displeasure to this guy. :o

*** yes I suppose that is to be expected. How...go and knock him down?.. Moron

It wasn't The Judge by any chance, was it?

No it wasn't. Enjoy your break in bangkoksexy where you belong..

  2. Yeah, I remeber them all. Give me Chuan any day. The Thais called him "meu sa-aat" which means clean hands. The only problem was that he had a cabinet full of gangsters.

Taksin was transport minister under Chavalit, wasn't it? I remember him saying that he would cure Bangkok's traffic problem within 6 months. Fantastic job there! Good job he wasn't PM then or maybe all drivers would have been shot indiscriminately.

  3. Needs a tad of balance. The disgusting jerry was ripping the nong off. 2000 then 1500 then 500. The jerry took the boy because he (the jerry) was old, fat and ugly. Yes the jerry deserved it.

The boy need a belting for accepting the 1500 and not holding out for 2,000 every time. The jerries need to be trained. It's ok to screw nongs but pay properly. The jerry is obviously quite stupid.

ops there I go again, shooting my dumb mouth off..

  4. Same again. Was robbed on Rama IV at the junction near Lotus. The cop clocked me waiting at the lights and jumped out in front of me as soon as the lights changed. He demanded 1000 Baht. When I asked what exactly I had done wrong he suggested that we go and sort it out at the station. Haggled him down to 200 baht which he pocketed.

I suppose I've been lucky really. In 11 years here I've only been blatently robbed twice by our shit coloured friends although I've quite rightly been fined for the odd illegal U-turn and trying to beat the traffic lights.

Last week the police were stopping drivers as they entered the expressway at Bang Na with total disregard for the other drivers waiting to pay the toll. Muppets! :o

Like Dr. Pat correctly stated it would help if the police were paid a decent wage so they would be less tempted to do this sort of thing.

Our Dear Leader was a copper wasn't he? He hasn't done too bad for himself has he? :D

  5. Come on KevinN, give wcr a break!

All this anti-gay stuff is ancient history. Very few 'straight' people will go through this life without meeting and befriending gay men and women. If you don't or you won't then there is a problem within yourself.

We all live and die, it's far better to make friends rather than enemies.

    W.S.

How about giving KevinN a break! You can't blame him for being disgusted at the thought of two blokes ##############

It sickens me too but I have learned to accept it because what else can you do?

In the end it's each to his own but I can't say I have any, or have had any, queer mates.

Mind you, there's some fantastic looking geezers in Jenny Star Bar. :o

  6. It'd help a lot if the police were paid a liveable wage instead of a pittance. Without an increase the corruption issue will remain alive.

You're right, of course, Dr. Pat.

I wonder how much would be sufficient enough in order to get them to actually police?

  7. The stoning (of the woman) is normally (??!!) carried out in Saudi by backing a large tipper truck full of aggregate up behind the woman, then dumping the lot!

Kinda takes the fun out of it a bit, don't you think? :o

Reminds me of Life of Brian.

    "Want any stones sir?"

"Nah...they got a lot of em' up there lying about on the ground"

"Oh, not like these sir, look at this. Feel the quality of that. That's craftsmanship, sir."

" Mmm...Oh alright, give us two points, two flats and a packet of gravel."

    :D

  8. Perhaps the US should put its own house in order first!

I'm sure president Kerry will do so at his earliest convenience.

    In your dreams dude!

So you think that Bush will win with another landslide.... like he did last time, eh?

Clinton was a hard act to follow.

    Bush is an absolute disaster.

    Kerry will walk it. :o

  9. Why the Israeli let the Thai authorities into their compound is beyond me.

Possibly because there was overwhelming evidence that the guy hacked his wife to bits, Dave. Even the Israelis aren't too keen on that sort of thing.

Regardless of popular belief, Dave, embassies are not a safe haven for psychopaths and they do tend to be cooperative with the local authorities if discovered there may be one on the premises.

  10. THAILAND AND THE WORLD NEED MEN LIKE BUSH AND THAKSIN, MEN WITH BALLS.

Balls can definatelty be a useful attribute. Hitler, one would assume, had balls (well, at least one anyway) so did Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and Saddam Hussein.

However I would suggest that Thailand would benefit far more from a leader who possesses intelligence, foresight, tolerence, understanding, compassion, integrity, honesty, and above all a pure and unselfish desire to improve the lives of all it's citizens.

It is quite obvious that many of our Dear Leader's policies are made with certain business interests in mind regardless of whether it is for the good of the nation.

Ruthlessness, aggression, and risk-taking may be useful qualities for success in business but may have serious adverse consequences when applied to running a country, especially one which has enjoyed a modicum of freedom in the past.

  11. I've been done a few times but have only ever paid a 200 baht fine. Once for stubbing out in a flower bed near the Emporium (no bin in sight) and more recently for dropping it down a storm drain outside immigration (again no bin in sight). On both occasions the officers were jovial and my apologies were warmly accepted. Som Nam Na. :o

  12. Stumonster's right. Mozilla does a good job of killing pop-ups.

If you still want to use Microshit Exploiter then Pop-up Manager is an excellent little program that does the job admirably, download for free from http://www.endpopups.com.

Some programs such as Kazaa which uses p2p will infect your computer with spyware which can be a real bugger to get rid of. In this case try Ad-Aware 6.0 by Lavasoft and that seems to do the job well. Get it at

    http://lavasoft.element5.com/software/adaware/

    Hope this helps.

  13. The Emporium has decent homemade pies on the top floor near the Oriental shop. Beef stew, turkey with apple and chestnut, chicken and mushroom, and more. Forget the name of the shop though, sorry. If you stand and the Oriental counter and look behind you then you should clock it.

Failing that then the Offshore on Sukhumvit 23 does pies. Not bad when you're pissed.

Yeah, and Villa opposite the Emporium does frozen mini pies from Oz. Tasty.

The only edible thing from Yorkies are the pork pies. Can be a bit salty at times though.

  14. It was reported recently that a bill proposed by the Royal Thai Police making the use of mobile phones whilst driving illegal, has been shelved. A spokesman for the Thai Rak Thai party said the commitee felt that imposing such a law would restrict people's freedom.

Early closing times, curfews, relocation of beggars during APEC, sex ban for students, etc.. Are these not restrictive of people's freedom?

It could be just a coincidence that PM owns the largest mobile phone company in Thailand. :o

  15. I pay nearly 2 grand a month for having two UBC decoders. One downstairs so that the missus can watch her screeching Thai crap and one in my crib for the football and stuff. I still had to pay 12,000 baht for each installation even though they only had to run a few metres of extra cable to join the two together. Halfway through the month I've watched just about everything worth watching and have to suffer repeat after repeat.

It infuriates me that they can't, or won't, sinchronize the commercial breaks. You always get a second or two of "The New VW Tuareg" before you get UBC's own splashcreen telling you to grass on your neighbours. It seems like the guy who's in control is always getting caught out, like he's just not quick enough. I once got almost 10 seconds of Sony Ericisson's classy add before the baffoon woke up and realised what was going on and hit us with their own advertising for an English-Chinese International School with that awful muzak. I hate UBC with a passion that often frightens my dog and look forward to the day when I start my own cable company and wipe them off the face of the earth. :o
