  1. They have to go if the employers don't get them MoU visas and work permits. So they need to go out and re-enter every 30 days to be able to stay. There was an accident with fatalities with a van carrying Lao workers just a few months ago. This time it sounds like they were from Cambodia and Myanmar. It's easy for people to say the vans should be stopped but what are the workers going to do then? That will just leave them open to extortion from immigration. Most of the bigger factories and construction companies probably get their workers the documents. It's usually smaller places that often don't bother with the paperwork.
  2. Very unlikely Chuwit is being misled or advised by anyone. More like following a personal feud. People mention him as bravely ready to name names. But seems to have been receiving donations recently that somewhat undermine his public-spirited motives.
  3. Well it obviously wasn't, was it? Seeing as the police said they had a massive response and he was quickly named by a number of different sources. Seems you're lying about "nobody was prepared to come forward".
  4. They've obviously been field testing this under username Liverpool Lou
  5. I've known a couple of people turned in to immigration. Both were reported by other foreigners, former 'friends' they'd had a falling-out with on quite petty issues.
  6. Teachers in private universities pay Thai social insurance contributions. Someone in a government university once told me he didn't receive any health insurance but I don't know if that's standard.
  7. I remember my daughter learned a lesson some years ago just after starting in her first real job in a hotel. They were all meant to sign out a float at the beginning of their shift but she noticed that often others (older hands) didn't. The rest of the day other staff, including the manager, would be in and out of her stash, saying just borrowing this, changing that, taking this out, putting that in. When it came up short, she had no idea if she had actually made a mistake or if it was something the others had done. But it came out of her pay. She guarded her own patch quite fiercely after that. There seemed to be quite a few ways you could end up out of pocket in that job and she moved on to better things.
  8. Two days ago, I didn't have a Revolut account. Now I do. From Thailand, using a Thai phone number with UK address. Now I'm not arguing with anything you're saying! But I was able to do it. At no point did I pretend I was in the UK. They sent an authentication code to a Thai number and I gave a UK address. If I'd had to show that I was resident in the UK, I would have given up. I have played around a bit and for some change of details like Revolut tag etc. an authentication code has again been sent to my Thai phone.
  9. I started at a private university in Bangkok in year 2000 on 40k. It was much better than was on offer at any state university. No idea what that would be now - maybe it hasn't changed!
  10. I don't know about the legalities but it's definitely common practice in businesses here. I know staff on bank counters and hotel reception who have to pay for any shortfalls.
  11. You're way off with that one and only thinking about government institutions. Going private would be much different.
  12. I didn't think it was possible either. But can confirm it worked for me this morning. So it's an option if you are able use a UK address but obviously not going to work for you. From starting off on the laptop, it sent a 6 digit authentication code to my Thai phone number. A Thai address wasn't an option but it worked for Thai number with UK address. I had to set up my own 4-digit pin. Verification was done through selfie and photo of the passport page through the phone. I now have a working Revolut account.
  13. Just tried it. Worked for me with a Thai number and UK address. Verification was then done with passport and a selfie.
  14. After all this, I still don't see any evidence that Thailand Post have failed to deliver anything. The only fine you can be sure you have to pay is one that was delivered by Thailand Post (albeit to your wife).
  15. The online annual tax system works very well. It can check that your vehicle has passed inspection at a test station and whether you've already paid the compulsory insurance. If they connect the ability to check for outstanding fines, you'll probably have to pay them to do the online renewal. Unless they force you to go and pay somewhere in person first.
  16. But what makes you so sure that the cameras were operating on those occasions?
  17. I read that. But also read that you got this one however it was delivered. After re-reading a few times, I'm still none the wiser as to why you are so certain that you have been issued with other fines that you haven't received.
  18. It seems that you don't actually know that you've been issued any tickets before (cameras not operating at the time maybe)? And you have actually received this one so why wouldn't you have received others? Maybe hold off berating the postie until you know there's something to complain about?
  19. It would be interesting to know if he spoke central Thai or Isan dialects, which would seem a better indicator than the alphabet or the national anthem after such a long period of time. Yunan has a large ethnic Tai population so if he was only using a dialect from that region, it would probably mean he's Chinese? I'm guessing they looked into that though?
  20. But Lineker is a freelancer and was commenting on his own social media account. He's a sports presenter and not responsible for political content on the BBC. So the BBC's own guidelines suggest he hasn't done anything wrong. Does anyone actually believe that what he tweets out represent anything other than his own personal views? Anyway, the question would be why pick on Lineker when there are so many other examples of other senior BBC presenters doing exactly the same thing. And we all know that there would have been no issue at all if he had tweeted political comments that were in support of government policy.
  21. You think people don't know that anyway? You don't think there are people all over the media putting that out there at the moment? Complete misreading of the room I think.
  22. I was referring to the international schools of universities as in School of .......... Maybe better to say "international colleges" then.
  23. It's far from clear that he's broken any BBC rules. The relevant rule would be on Public Expressions of Opinion 15.3.13, which actually suggests he hasn't broken the rules: "The risk is greater where the public expressions of opinion overlap with the areas of the individual's work. The risk is lower where an individual is expressing views publicly on an unrelated area, for example a sports or science presenter expressing views on politics or the arts." Anyway, it looks like Match of the Day will be going out without any presenters or commentators, using footage only, as others like Ian Wright and Alan Shearer have said they will not appear.
  24. If you're a bit selective about exactly which private university you choose (and you should also look at international schools of government universities), you should certainly find a 75,000 baht plus starting salary.
