  1. Since when has Chula been a private university? It became autonomous but is still a public university.
  2. To follow up, I've had my report approved at the 4th attempt. I again used the magnifying glass to fill in the form, this time with success. The TM47 form that was generated looks exactly the same as previous attempts so I have no idea why I was suddenly successful. So if you get a rejection keep trying, especially as they accept them up to the report date.
  3. I'm trying to make my 3rd report on the new system but keep getting rejected. For the second report I was rejected once and just tweaked the address so that my soi was with the condo not the road (no change in information, no change in order, just the line it was on) and it was approved. For my third report I'm doing exactly the same, the generated TM47 looks exactly the same but it's been rejected three times. They give a reason in the email now: The informations are invalid or imcomplete [sic], which doesn't help if I don't know what is invalid or incomplete (no boxes left for me to fill in though). I've done it by clicking on the magnifying glass to automatically fill it in and doing each box myself. No luck. I might give it one last go but can't see what else to tweak. Though, what's the VISA box below the phone number?
  4. Thailand already announced this. If you select Land Travel in the Thailand Pass, you can see the Poipet crossing as one of the available options.
  5. It's one of the border points Thailand announced as being open from 1 May.
  6. I think a lot of Thais are sympathetic to Putin. They also follow the NATO did this, provoked that line, which usually means they've taken a side and stick with it. Whereas you could just say you're against imperialism, whoever is pursuing it. I was talking to someone last night (Thai) who doesn't believe that the bombings and destruction are real. Fake news. It's just the mainstream media ya know.
  7. Laos should be making an announcement about more relaxed entry conditions this week but not sure if it will start immediately or later in the month. As Joe says, at the moment as a tourist you have to book through a tour agency. But there will probably be new information about Laos by the time you arrive. If you use Facebook, the Laos in the Time of Covid group will have the latest official announcements from the Laos government.
  8. But the OP didn't say they were asking for native English speakers. He just thinks as a native English speaker he was entitled to the job over someone whose language may be as good as his and whose qualifications could be better (because "Business English" is hardly likely to be master's level is it). Anyway, not running away from a job that he had to pay to go to an interview for was probably his major mistake.
  9. All the others "can barely speak English"? Really? Maybe the Malaysian woman has a degree in English and 10 years' experience teaching in universities. Maybe she was more qualified than you. Standard Malaysian English (as opposed to Manglish) is not so different to standard British English, mainly it's in the pronunciation. Maybe her English is fine for international environments and met the criteria they were looking for. Or maybe they could just pay her less?
  10. Why do you need the straw? (If you're driving and drinking it OK but otherwise why?)
  11. For anyone in the Srinakharin/Onnuch area, you can get a free Pfizer booster at the Thanya Park mall. It's done by Kluaynamthai Hospital as part of the BMA program. I booked on the QueQ app but it was fairly quiet and they didn't even look at that. With my previous vaccination record (two AZs), they didn't want to see my passport either.
  12. Because it's a mishmash of beliefs and monks are involved in a lot of things that are not part of Buddhism. What he said is quite correct. Thai belief systems have taken on many different influences that are now overlapping.
  13. Neve had a problem with traffic at 2AM. If you're not drinking why wouldn't you drive?
  14. I don't think that can be done at the moment. You need to be met for transportation to a quarantine hotel. It looks like people are met on the Thai side and driven across the border to quarantine.
  15. I'm in the same area and it's very high in the red today. But just a few days ago it was the lowest I've ever seen it, right down in single digits.
  16. A lot of tickets in the hands of touts now. Add in all the freebies for corporates and VIPs and it will be interesting to see the prices outside on match day (well, more like on social media the days before).
  17. Lao citizens going back over the border still need to follow the requirements like PCR Tests, do quarantine etc. So he needs to check on the latest requirements because it's not open to just travel freely.

    Border crossing

It could be because crossing from Laos into Thailand some of the quarantine hotels are in Udon Thani, so you're effectively picked up and taken directly there from the border.
  19. Does saying something against Thaksin mean you support this government? Things were at least starting to head towards a better direction at that time and were put into reverse by Thaksin at that time. I'm not talking about anything else.
  20. Worth remembering that Thaksin completely strangled what were the beginnings of an independent and open media in Thailand. He cowed the media through legal threats and action and forced them into self-censorship to stifle criticism of his actions.
  21. I successfully did the online test but when I went in (Bangchak) they said it wasn't for foreigners and I couldn't use it. So I had to book a foreigner's slot a few months later. That was last year though so could be different now.
  22. I had two AZs last year and had Covid a couple of months ago. I've got a booster booked this week but not sure it's necessary after the infection?
  23. You're over-explaining now I think. But I'm not going to disagree that the lack of final 's' in Thai is a contributory factor. Of course when a language doesn't use final clusters, then there is also a cluster problem. Rarely do linguistic problems come from a single contributory factor. The only thing I was actually trying to correct was the suggestion that 'six' doesn't contain a consonant cluster - but you're right, I haven't followed the discussion so probably missed the point.
  24. "Six" does have a consonant cluster at the end /-ks/. You're confusing spelling and sounds. 'x' is not a final sound in English, just a spelling that covers the cluster. So it is a cluster problem for Thais.
  25. Update: This really worked well. Registered for the system, put in the vehicle details and paid by debit card last Saturday. The system updated every step: Tuesday, documents printed, Wednesday sent out by EMS, Thursday (today) new tax disc arrived. This was for a vehicle over 7 years old, the online process, including registration, took about 10 minutes. You can add multiple vehicles to your account and the process will be even quicker once you already have an account set up. There's only Thai language though. One of those things that when they do it properly, it really is an excellent service.
