  1. An update on the divorce. Went to British embassy to get my passport verified around B3600. Took this document to get translated into Thai B400. Went to sathon amphur with this document and passport and marriage certificate. The wife had her id she had to get an additional document from the police down the road which took 10 mins B20. We had no witnesses but the guy in the office doing the divorce translated for me and got his colleagues to witness the papers, cost B500. Took most of the day

  2. Live in northern Thailand for the last 7 years and this December my Thai Gf and I want to visit Phuket. Not interested in nightlife but would like to try snorkeling. Want to stay away from the very crowded areas but still have a choice of restaurants nearby. About 1000 baht a night for a room. Any suggestions on a decent place. Or area Cheers

  4. Seems OK if you want to stay on the outskirts of the city. I stayed at chada veranda hotel for the same price as its within walking distance from central plaza and Pullman. No free breakfast though but very clean hotel.

  5. Just got my one year marriage visa. Stayed at hotel baandala in mukdahan which is a good 15 mins walk from the bus station. The room was decent for 500 baht. But many mozzies in room and no nearby places to eat. I would stay at Hopinn hotel which is nearer the bus station for 550. It's also closer to town so maybe more options to eat. In savannahket cafe boon is the place to eat in ac comfort. Next door you can have a massage for a couple of hours in ac comfort for 460 baht and they have a shower.

  6. A few years ago a fellow British expat died in our village. I thought the embassy should be contacted as I had never been in this situation before. I found it impossible to speak to anyone at the embassy and had to email them. They did reply but their ONLY concern was the retrieval of his passport. They were not interested in the how or why he died or in assisting his wife or children.

  7. Poster asked about restaurants in Nong Khai.

Should be plenty, because of many travellers/tourists going through there.

If you travel with Thais they will easily find a good place upon the Mekong river (with a view).

But I can not help with a name.

The OP also asked about accommodation in Nong Bua Lamphu, So maybe they would like to eat there too.

    Thanks for your unhelpful post....happy.png

  8. The best room i stayed in was Bann Thai (near ptt gas station on airport rd). 3700 a month but they overcharge on electric. However, for size of room it's worth the overcharging it you don't mind paying extra to be scammed. They also do larger rooms on the top floor.

There have been a number of new mansions built recently, some charging farangs 5-6000 a month. From what i have seen they are all similar size (studio's). But there may well be other places that i have not seen.

Although all places offer free wifi the speeds obtained are usually very poor. Best to buy an aircard and get a plan from TrueMove 3gh (the best of a bad bunch).

You could ask a few locals in Peppers Bakery. Avoid paying someone to help you from the farang bars as places are easy to find yourself and Ubon is a small town. Rent a motorcycle from Darren at JJ's and scoot around town.

I don't live there anymore but good luck

  9. Can't help with emails but have stayed overnight in all the places you mentioned. Lake view do monthly rentals from about 4000 a month. Its a bit tired but livable.

The other places are not know for monthly stays but im sure they would if shown enough cash.

T3 is the best of the bunch but no english tv when i stayed.

I would stay at The Outside Inn (google for contact details and the owner is from usa i think) for a few days and look for an apartment that do monthly rentals. A nice room can be had from 3500 a month with ac . wifi and tv etc. Elec is 7baht a unit with water about 100 baht a month
