  1. "They can charge you whever they want to charge for any reason they choose."

...and no receipt from my experience..just a number on a scrap of paper.

They are pricks. You want your stuff and they know it.

Nowdays they are in the habit of forcing 'storage fees' on you. They hold up delivery for a week or 10 days and add that too!

There is nobody to complain to either.

Been going on for decades and the Authorities do nothing.

I was doing import/export but never knew how much they were going to charge.

Not a very good way to run a business..not knowing my costs!

How many business' do these guys chase away?

Seagate Co. pulled out of a recent proposal and 40,000 jobs went to another Country.

Another case of greed and screwing over the Country for personal gains.

  2. Read an article in the ChinaView.

Sounds like it was being pushed back and hit a building and a coach.

    The new airport is jinxed.

I'd be willing to bet the management will call in some Monks, burn some incense, maybe put up a statue or somthing.

    That should fix it.

  3. Go see the Grand Palace.

Don't believe the friendly people near the entrance saying the place is closed...They hang out there trying to con people.

Actually, I think it does close in the afternoon around 3;00pm?

    A Canal Tour?

Go to the river and hire a private longtail for about 600bht/hour.

    Place for good Thai food?

Go down Sukhumvit-Soi 55, (BTS Station Thong Lor) to the corner of Sub-Soi 13.

    Nice Thai restaurant.

    Nitelife?

Try Soi Cowboy in the evening.

Wow, thank you for the tips UnknownPoster! :o

One question though, do the canal tours last all day long or is it also only up to a certain time?

Take the Skytrain to the river and negociate for a private longtail boat. Daytime is best.

    Should be 600bt...maybe more..

There are ferries that ply the river for only a few baht if you want to go that way.

  4. It's the good ol' Boys network, pillaging the Country. Anybody approving a contract gets a piece of the action.

Nobody dare spill the beans on some rich bigshots.

There will be investigations but nobody is willing to point a finger.

The guy that dumped the first load of fill sand in that swamp 15 years ago overcharged.

The head of the national parks sells land.

The people in charge of the environment sell the forests and rare animals.

The intellectual property rights guy raids Pantip and finds only 1 bogus DVD.

The AOT colludes with ground transport mafia.

The counter corruption commission is corrupt.

The investigators are corrupt, the cops, the courts, the military.

  6. Some Thais never mature past kindergarden age. Your Mother in Law is one of them. Not her fault as many Thai parents refuse to let the kids grow up. A pepetual childhood, still playing make believe.

I knew a Thai lady that was still brushing her sons teeth and he was 15 years old.

  7. Extreemly dangerous crossing there since the lanes on one side go BOTH directions.

People crossing the road don't expect that, only look one way.

I've seen allot of close calls.

Why don't they creat a barrior to prevent accidents?

How many get hurt or killed in that area I wonder?

  8. Just to add my 2 cents, this isn't a Thailand thing. HSBC in HK won't allow a US citizen to open an investment account at all (even if it's to buy HK shares).

Yes, US citizens are having a hard time invsesting offshore ever since the Patriot Act.

You can open a HSBC account in Singapore og Hong Kong for savings but investing is a no go.

HSBC Offshore can help but it's expensive.

  9. Nice car!

The Cork certainly knows how to live it up.

Hot Air Balloons, 5 Star Buffets, Top End Condos, Vacation homes, Beautifull women, Elephant Polo in exotic locals...Good on him.

I know allot of rich people that don't know how to enjoy life.

    Nothing wrong with having money.

I have a Carrera Cabriolet and an M-5 back home. Does that piss anybody off?

  10. There is a lineup of Taxis and Tuk Tuks outside every tourist hotel. Their sole intention is to cheat the new visitors.

Go ahead, ask them for a ride. They won't take you as they are only there to cheat tourists.

    This is OK ?

  11. People get scammed because they get greedy. Thats what the scammers rely on. The old addage that "if something seems to good to be true then it normally is" is well worth remembering whenever you are travelling. Dont become another statistic. :o

Let"s compare the Tourist industry to Farming.

Two very important industries in Thailand. The Thai people depend on this.

If parasites invade your farm, do you tell the plants they should be carefull or they deserve to be eaten because they are stupid?

I'm a farmer and we declare war on the pests the moment we see them.

  12. Scams, scams and more scams.

They always tell the travelers the Temple is Closed etc. and then try to scam them.

It happens all day, every day!

I wrote the TAT regarding the Tuk Tuk guys on my Soi, scamming tourists.

The TAT rep told me to call the Tourist Police, so I did.

The Tourist Police asked me to call the Police, so I did.

The Police said they had to catch them comitting a crime so they did nothing.

The tourists on my Soi continue to get cheated every day by these guys, but nothing can be done?

    Tourist Assistance Center TAC.

If you see sombody being cheated, write to this address and report the reply here please.

    Tourist scams in Thailand; http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=thailand+...ss&ei=UTF-8

Thailands reputation is getting around and is killing the tourist industry.

Too bad, but they get what they deserve I suppose for not protecting the visitors.

  13. Somone with better writing skill than I have should pen a letter to the paper demanding an investigation into this.

It's outrageous and has been happening for decades.

Sombody is in charge out there and should be locked up for ripping off the country.
