  1. Why would you stay in a country, and carry on a business where people can't be trusted, and why are you so afraid to answer the question?

You can't defend them so you change the subject. :o

Where I stay has nothing to do with being shortchanged at McDonalds.

I guess you guys from the MTV generation have short attention spans? Stick to the topic.

Like I said, ask some Thais if they feel their fellow man is trustworthy.

    That's all.

Don't take my word for it.

  2. Morals, ethics and shame are not Thai traits.

    Just the way it is.

You aren't meeting the right Thais then.

Been here a long time cdnvic, been in business, married, have lots of experiences with Thais. More than most I assume.

I've met thousands. The list of Thai I consider trustworthy is very small.

Why would you stay in a country like that?

What percentage of Thais do you think have high moral standards?

Better yet, ask some Thais if they feel locals are trustworthy.

It must be really depressing to be you, but I hope you find happiness one day.

Just out of interest, how much did she take you for?

The new kid spreading his wisdom.

Like I said before Bendix(Mr Humility). You need to get some experience around here before lecturing us.

I remember my first trip here. I was ripped off, day and nite, didn't even know it and had a great time.

There is a very good reason that Thailand is listed as one of the most corrupt societies in the world.

Pay attention, spend a few years around here and maybe you'll learn somthing.

  5. Gee...let's see, a Thai security guard probably makes 3-5000 baht a month, and you expect that anybody is going to take the time (or burden the expense) to train him or her?

I agree with the comments about the "parking guards" only getting in the way. If that uniformed kid at my condo keeps standing behind my car blowing his whistle and impeding my efforts to back my car out, I'm going to run him over one of these days.

    Yea,

I think he should be trained. Should pass a test or somthing. Have some minimum qualifications for being the security guard. Burden and expense? For 15 minutes of intense study?

Posted at a Farang condo, he should know the words HELP or FIRE or AMBULANCE.

    You don't agree with that?

I do agree, the whistle blowing is distracting and makes the parking much more difficult.

  6. .

There is a big difference from going to an expensive restaurant and going to a cheap restaurant and getting the expensive menu.

They are pulling a 'fast one', it's a scam.

Anybody that was raised proper knows it's unethical, shamefull and immoral.

  7. People at AOT that have worked their way to the top are too busy lining their pockets,

......just like their commrads at the Customs Dept, Land Office, Highway Dept., Post Office, Police Dept., Govt. Pharmacutical Org. etc..

They feel they deserve to get rich. They earned the right to pilfer, and have little interest in anything else.

Exploiting your position is a way of life here.

  8. Some of the best chefs from Europe and North America are in Thailand.

    Horsesh*t.

Some come and visit for short periods of times to cook at big hotels, but they can't duplicate the fantastic foods they make at home because it is impossible to get the same quality of ingredients here. They do their best under the circumstaces.

What I find strange is that Western food at the best restaurants in Vietnam is MUCH better than Thailand even though the economy and infrastructure is way behind. They have some AMAZING restaurants of all different cuisines there that could compete with Paris, San Francisco or New York, but at very reasonable prices. :o

Impossible to get the same quality ingredients here(Bangkok) but they are available in Vietnam?

Nonsense. In fact, the imported supplies going to Vietnam land in Bangkok first...

I'm a winemaker and have lots of Chef friends.

My passion is good food and I eat out allot.

Bangkok is one of the best food cities in the world.

To say you can get a good meal in Paris, New York, San Fran and Vietnam but not in Bangkok is nonsense.

Try this place and report back here please:

Le Beaulieu. Master chef Hervé Frerard.

    Way down Sukhumvit Soi 19.

As good as any place in France.

Lots more like this in Bangkok too, run by passionate professionals from all over the globe.

  9. what do the agents charge as comission on the rental?

The agent I went through for my current rental took one months rent (from the owner, not me).

The Thai agent I used took 10% of the first month rent (from the owner, not me) as payment for leading me to the unit (between Silom and Sathorn)

Taking $35K for such a service seems exhorbiant. Actually, at that rate, I think Im in the wrong business.

think you meant 3.5 k that would be 10% or you were paying 350.000 k bht rent which would mean you are definatley in the right biz!!!!

haha. i meant 35k baht. that is a ton of money to charge for finding someone a tennant. like i said, the person who found me my apartment only got 10% of the first month.

One months rent is a standard fee that agents cahrge for finding a renter.

That's waht I have been paying.

  10. I used a very good shipping company to bring a load of personal effects into Thailand from NZ recently. The quote from the Bkk-based company was a third as it was from a similar NZ company and I had no issues with customs. The stuff was delivered to me within 48 hours of it landing. The delivery people didnt even hang around for a tip.

    Excellent service.

I'm sure corruption is rife but, in my case at least, I had no issues at all.

So you had a package delivered one time and no problem...

Try running an import/export biz and then get back to me.

  11. Possibly the most corrupt organization in the Country.

They have your stuff, you want your stuff. You will pay.

I recently had to pay 20,000 under the table to release my shipment valued at $500.

Oh yea, they usually try to stall the process for a week or two to tack on extra storage fees.

  12. No qwertz, I'm not helping you. You have choices, and you're being selfish.

I will reserve my assistance for ONLY those people who satisfy the following criteria:

    1) They have been living in Thailand so long, every breath they take is rancorous and full of venom.

    2) They can't go home because they've burnt their bridges, and they feel stuck in a place that once they felt like kings in, until the cash ran out

    3) They have next to nothing to live on here, so angrily resent anyone else having a life

    4) They post on Thaivisa.

I shall call it the Bendix International Tycoon Temporary Economic Relief fund. Work out the acronym for yourself.

    Mr. Humility,

I point out that your arrogant, insulting, 'expert' opinions are not backed up with much experience...

...so that makes me breath venom, have burned my bridges, have next to nothing to live on and my cash ran out?

Pretty bizzare thought process you have there son.

Goes to show you usually don't have a clue of what you are talking about.
