  1. I was trying to e-mail pan house apartments in ubon ratchathani, but the website is down or suspended, hopefully the place is still functioning, It is my favourite in ubon, can any ubon locals confirm for me, I want to make booking for june 7,8,9,

    kind regards songhklasid.

  2. Yes, they amaze, I took my new wife at the time to seaworld, whilst viewing the mangrove/wetlands exhibit she spotted a big crab, wat he eat? was the question, rather than explain crustaceans, I said prawns & oysters,to which she replied He eat expensive! bueatiful.

  3. Sounds good to me, bring it on , keep me posted, I have a house in sankhaemphaeng, (east of C.M.) & a friend in ubon, I have made this trip lately with thai-air, 2 flights, costly but convenient.

  4. I stay @ amnat occasinally, as my G/F comes from senang about 20 klms north, If you want stay for short time the hotel fai kid is good prices start 500 baht, but personally I would consider ubon ratchathani, it's quietier traffic wise, better choice accom, more choice nitelife, for the long term it's a better base

    regards songhklasid.

  5. You could take cash, go straight to lucky rich money exchange pratunam, you will certainly get a better exchange rate, then open a bank acc, with visa card attached, withdraw you money as you need avoiding the 150 baht withdraw fee, maybe have to go inside bank for teller withdrawal?

  6. Igot a good deal on a flight from aus to K.L. arrive 0900 hrs @ K.L.international, my question is transfer to LCC to catch air asia flight to BKK, how far is it in time, can walk? & how much time to allow for connecting flight considering immigration, baggage collection, etc.

    thanking you in advance songhklasid.

  7. Yes I have to agree,I 've flown that route BKK-UBP return 3 times in 09, and it's always been full ( admitingly it's the mid afternoon flt) return BKK, but on impressions it would seem a profitable route?

    regards to all songhklasid.

  8. R.I.P. you old bugger.

I'd bet you will give them a bit of stick up there, Mate

Surin has lost a legend (like him or loathe him)

Thank you for your help and advice over the years, my friend

    :)

    Dave & Sri

p.s. I think that 5-0 win was for you, Mountain

I met martin once last november, whilst stopover in surin, going onto siem riep camb, He came up & introduced himself to me & g/f , offered assistance, He didn't look well then, sorry to here he passed on, seemed like a gentleman

    regards songhklasid, wannida.

  9. I prefer thai for ongoing connections, convenience, e.g. CNX-UBP, cannot do with A.A. without stopover 1 nite in BKK, also arriving from aust, I can connect with dom flt to CNX, & baggage booked right thru,If thai hand over ubon flts to nok-air tyey will be my preffered carrier.

    regards songhklasid.

  10. My usual route, because I spend a week @ my house outside chaing-mai ( I'm coming from aus) after visiting family, jobs/house, I want to get to ubon asap to meet with g/f. but to fly CNX-BKK then BKK-UBP with air asia you have to o/nite in BKK as they only have 1 flt /day early morning, so the last 2 trips I have booked in advance with thai connecting flights/ baggage right thru is O K but pricey, hopefully nok will maintain flexibility, but what about CNX-korat-udon then UBP ?

    any comments songhklasid.

  11. Hi again, just to clear a few details,The official fee for a entry visa is $20u.s. into cambodia, however if they manage to get 1000 baht out of you, they make about 9-10 $u.s. its a scam, & they try it on @ this crossing, about the taxi, I priced the hotel's taxi to come from siem riep, pick us up then return to S.R. price was $120 U.S., however the hotel arranged a o'smach taxi (town close to border crossing camb. side) to pick us up @ border even had my name written down & held up & drop off @ guesthouse (2 dragons) for $60 U.S. I guess he picked up a return fare, I used the same taxi for return trip, 2 dragons is run by gordon sharples who has the tales of asia website, clean reasonable rooms, good food, cold beers, no hasle tuk-tuks for temple trips. I hope the above info helps you.

    regards songhklasid.

  12. done this trip last month, all o.k. 4 half hours surin to 2 dragons, hotel siem riep, although I had a taxi waiting for us @ the border ( can be arranged @ 2 dragons ) using local o/smach taxi, border quiet, but they insisted on thai baht, as I thust u.s. dollars at them, anyway good crossing if anyone is considering.

    regards songhklasid

  13. I can't see Chong Chom border closing in the foreseeable future, where did you hear this information? Sounds like bar stool BS to me.

If anything the border should be welcoming more Thais through. Thaksin has a large support network in the Northeast and the present government would not be so stupid as to close the border and ignite more tensions in the NE.

BTW, the road to Siam Rep from Chom Chong will probably be flooded in parts at the moment. Probably take 5-6 hours to get there by taxi (2k bt).

O k thanks for the info, any idea how much for taxi (for 2 people not share) from border to siem riep?

I was guessing $50-60 US, any tips greatly received.

    songhklasid.

  14. I read somewhere that now thaksin is advisor to camb. gov, the border crossings are in danger of closing as a protest, anyone confirm? I was planning a trip to siem riep via chong chom (surin) later this month.Trouble seems to follow thaksin or does he bring his own, this latest trick is an affront to thailand & it's people,he should be dealt with once & for all.

  15. I highly recommend Chao Lao Beach near Chanthaburi. Very clean and not expensive with many new beautiful Thai style bungalow resorts. This area is up and coming and thanks to a new development project has a new road through the city, lighting, etc, etc. But it is currently almost 100% Thai, so if you are looking for english TV or western food this is not for you.

We lived at a resort there for 4 months last year and recommend it highly. It is ideal for families as there are no lady bars, etc. Just clean resort fun.

Alternately you could fly to the airport near Pattaya rather than BKK and take a minibus or taxi from there. It is conveniently close to the Chanthaburi area.

Sounds a good move /don't forget the oasis sea park, dolphin show, swim with dolphins, the kids will never forget.

    regards songhklasid.

  16. Im off to Laos with my wife next week just wondering will my phone that has a Thai sim card work or will i have to get another sim card when i get to Laos,i am sure some of our intrepid explorers on the forum will have the answer for me....Thanks!

Unfortunately no, I was in pakse 2 months ago, although 1-2-call sim appeared to have signal,it would,nt work, purchased a $10 sim card from market. It is amazing why 1 phone company cant supply thailand, laos camb, vietnam, you could fit the whole lot into qld, & n.s.w.

    regards songhklasid.

  17. In my village the ICE MAN delivers the lovely stuff everyday, 1 days notice for a carton of leo, all you need is a suitable size esky/s I have 1 larger for party mode, &a smaller version for 1/2 people, then you chill your bargain price beers in the esky & by late afternoon you can give it hel_l. If you would like a demonstration you'll have to visit.

    regards songhklasid

  18. My last trip to thailand I purchased audio tapes "Auto Thai' vol 2 to play over &over in my car on the way to work in aust, after 2 months the tapes were jamming, after numerous attempts to recoil tape, it would happen again. The learning vocab itself is good, it's just the tape quality is not there. REFUND? or EXCHANGE? the products are made by DLC language products & the leaflet assure's quality product.

Where do I go from here,I have an address in BKK, or to the shop were I purchased them from. Any advice or similiar problems?

    regards songhklasid.

  19. Hi All

I am planning a trip to Chanthaburi next month with my GF. Could anyone offer any suggestions for a mid-range hotel near the beach? Is there stuff to do at night around this area? Is it better to stay near town and commute to the beach? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Brian

I've stayed twice @K.P. grand hotel, good rooms, good pool, with breakfast, 5 mins walk to robinsons, I took my young bloke, we went to oasis sea park, dolphin show, swim with dolphins, scenic waterfalls, city tour, not much in the way of nitelife though.

regards songhklasid. P.S. roomrate was 1300/1400baht (4 yrs ago)
