My wife often refers to a new ชุด (choot) as being "cute dead", or if I do something stupid, I get an eyeroll and "โง่ (ngoh) dead"
I have come to learn this slang means "very∞ (adjective)"
Can anyone explain the entymology of this idiom?

I see Movieseer is back again with times for Emporium and other SFX chains. Hoorah!
-
Anyone else use Movieseer to get movie showtimes?

The Emporium SFX cinema has allegedly been "updating" now for weeks. I hate telephoning when the internet is such a better method to disseminate this information.

Went to Sunrise Tacos yesterday for Cinco de Mayo.
My table had:
2 x margaritas @ 199 ea
a "Tijuana" @ 199
apple pie @ 69
ice cream @ 59
corn bread @ either 59 or 69, let's say 69 as the worst case scenario
Total by my calculations: 794
+ tax: 55.58
Total: B 849.58
Only this morning did I realize that our bill was B 1006.25. Check your bills at Sunrise, folks.
I would love to have been able to edit this post. Greg contacted me by PM and we went through my bill. It seems I was wrong. Certain extras like Guacamole @ 74 Baht, and (Cheese and Sour Cream) @ 31 Baht didn't factor into my own mental calculations.
Professional approach to customer complaints, Greg, I intend to come back. I really liked the food, didn't have any problem with the service, it was only the morning after that I started to feel disenfranchised. Perhaps that's the Margarita's fault.

Yesterday I bought Grape Nuts at Villa on Sukumvit Soi 21.
The smaller sized box, 165 baht.
I'd never actually heard of it before, but after reading this thread I was curious enough to try it when I next saw it. I think it's like a cross between All bran and rocks.

Preferably around Sukhumvit, but will travel for good beer.
(from a retail outlet, not from a bar ... I know those quite well already ...)

I have seen local cheese made at King Project , Chaing mai and Suan Jitlada
Is it any cheaper than imported cheese?

Does anyone have an alternate email address for the consulate in Bali?

Thanks guys. If I attempt to do a visa run on the 16/Aug (remember that the "Must be utilized before" date is 16/Aug) will they extend at the border for the full 90 days without a problem, or should I go on the 15/Aug to be safe?
The border guards won't care that I'm changing from a "Business" visa to a tourist visa? I assume they'll ask me if I'm still working in Thailand or whatnot.
-
I'm an Australian currently in BKK on a multiple entry Non-Imm B visa. On my current stamp, I'm good until 19/June. My Visa's "Must be utilized before" date is 16/Aug.
I am about to buy a return trip ticket to Australia for Christmas.
My plan is to take a visa run around 01-Jun, and then another 15/Aug, which will see me through to Thursday 13/Nov. I then intend to take another visa run, this time on a tourist visa, (till 13/Dec) and then fly home on the 12/Dec, and organize a new multi Non-Imm B visa for my return leg.
Anyone see any problem with this? Will I be allowed on the plane in Australia without an onward ticket from Thailand with a non-Imm B visa? That's the only potential pitfall I can see ...

The brake fluid does work, tried and tested................used years ago with car tax dogers in uk, to swap tax disks between cars as the car numbers were written in biro!!!!
I'm scared to try ... at the moment, outside of thailand it's worth $50. If I destroy it, it'll be worth $0 outside of Thailand too!
But I suppose it's only $50. Now to locate brake fluid ...

Having recently been on a trip to the USA, I had some spare cash left over that I want to change back to baht now that I'm home.
However, on one of the $50's some knucklehead has drawn a mustache in biro.
Now, nobody (of the half-dozen money changers that I tried) will change it for baht. Besides using it when I NEXT go overseas, what can I do with it now? Anyone know anywhere that's more lax in the quality of bills they will accept?

I'll be back in Thailand next week, with a heap of USD to change. Will I get a better rate on the large bills, or the small bills?
large bills. Thanks!

Gotta better idea than a loan. I know of a guy that got fed up with Credit Card junk mail from finance co's and Banks. He took out 10 cards, cashed the hole lot out iover a 10 days period, left the UK for Thailand with 45,000 pounds. After regular collection agents chasing him for the outstanding amout, he finally settle with a collection agent for 20%. No record, no threat of arrest etc. So he took 45,000 pounds, settled for 9,000 pounds, and set up a good business in the Kingdom off which he lives now!!!!! I'm not making any moral judgements, but he's a shit load better off than I am these days, and Im the one who followed the straightened arrow and still works 8-6 6 days a week
He probably solved his problem of getting flooded with credit card junk mail too ...

Discrimination is a way of life here. If you're coming, best get used to it now.

The Duke's is right next to McDonald's - so easy to find - and gets rave reviews from many of us. The BBQ ribs and pizza can't be beat.
This is one of the best tips I've ever had. The Duke's is easily one of the best farang restaurants I've eaten at in Thailand as a whole.
Fantastic, thanks!

Hey Chiangers
I'm here for a few days from BKK celebrating my birthday with a trip away, and tonight my wife's mother and her younger sister will join us for dinner.
I saw the ... enormous ... Chiang Mai food thread, and read the first few, and last few pages, but I'm not really any the wiser on where we should go for dinner tonight.
My wife is Thai, and her mother and sister are more Chinese than Thai, but my wife thinks that taking them to "farang food" will be fun.
Recommendations? Preferably near the nightbazaar area. Thanks

Reporting back, I have found (white) tinned asparagus at foodland on Sukumvit Soi 5.
It's not green, which was my preference that I didn't state, but beggars can't be choosers as the saying goes.
As to why I want it: it's for a family recipe that just doesn't seem to work with fresh asparagus for some reason.
-
Foodland or Villa, you can also find the white there. You can make it easily, just boil it in salt water till all the flavor is gone then pop it in a jar!
haha, thanks. I'll try foodland on soi 5 tomorrow and report back.
-
oh I should mention that Tops at Asoke, Carrefour at Ratchada, Tesco at Fortune have all been tried with no success.
-
Does anyone know anywhere selling preserved asparagus? I've seen the real deal, of course, but this request is specifically for preserved.
Thanks for any ideas ...

She says it like the English word "dead" but it seems like she's self-translated from ตาย
Thanks.
