  1. Unfortunately the cheap shredders are strip-cut, not diamond-cut or better. I either need to buy an expensive shredder, or find a place that does document destruction properly.

Hmmm, are you a government department or just paranoid? :o

Use a cheapo strip cut shredder, thoroughly mix up the bits and divide between bags. Put the bags in different bins around the city, flush them down the loo, or simply go out into the countryside and burn them. My parents use shredded documents as Gerbil bedding, very effective at making the data totally unusable :D

To be honest do you really believe that the information is sooooo sensitive and that your average Thai bin-emptier is going to recognise such information and know how to use it? :D

No I don't, but regulations are regulations. I'm told by "on high" that I either have the documents professionally destroyed or use a diamond cut or better shredder at home. Otherwise I assume all risk with their contents. :s

And work will pay for the document destruction company, I just need to find one, and preferably one that's well recommended.

  2. Mix them in with the boiled cabbage... :o

Actually, I bet you can find a very cheap electric paper shredder at a store near you (Big C or Home Pro, etc.). Unfortunately, you probably can't recycle the shreds here.

  3. Is there a short, snappy, common Thai expression to say to someone trying to jump in front of you? Something like 'I was here first' or 'wait your turn' or 'do you mind?' or 'there's a queue here'. Would be helpful in many situations in Thailand.

One day, a well dressed woman cut in front of me in 7-11. I said "Chai queue dai mai?" She actually looked shocked I said something, turned red and went to the back of the line. :o

I said to a group of queue jumpers once "phom ror laew khrap" but they ignored me. I think they didn't speak Thai, but at least I got to say something.

  4. My wife sometimes hums (or worse yet) sings to herself a certain song from the South Park movie, which a friend sent her as a ring tone.

Because she's singing a song, she doesn't believe me when I claim that it's "ไม่สุภาพ" so I'm looking for a translation. Just the first verse will do. Unfortunately my Thai is too hi-so to know how to translate it :o

    Can anyone help?

  5. David, do you think it is possible Lexitron has a cut-off entry?

โรคติดเชื้อ seems too general to me ....

    I second meadish_sweetball's comment above.

    "โรคติดเชื้อ seems too general. "

    It is general.

If it is for the Mrs.. I offer the following so she can read it. She won't be too worried afterward either. :o

    It says:

symptoms - fatigue and low energy can linger for weeks or months.

  6. 4. If the salary being paid is between 1 and 2 million baht, the personal tax rate around 30% correct?. When is this deducted from the salary, as it's paid (monthly) or at end of year?

    30 % yes (details here).

    Monthly.

Thanks. If I were to limit my Thai income to the better value sub-1M baht tax range, do I need to pay Thai tax on any foreign income as well? ie, if I had income of 999,000B and AU$30K, do I need to pay income tax on the AU$30K in Thailand as well as in Australia?

  7. I've got some questions I'd appreciate your advice on:

    1. Can a foreigner be the sole owner of a Thai Private Limited Company?

    2. Can a foreigner receive income from their Thai company without a work permit?

    3. If the Thai company's sole purpose is to bill a foreign company, and pay a salary, what level of money needs to be kept in the company for tax and filing requirements?

    4. If the salary being paid is between 1 and 2 million baht, the personal tax rate around 30% correct?. When is this deducted from the salary, as it's paid (monthly) or at end of year?

    Thanks much.

  8. I'm an Aussie who maintains a home in Brisbane, and I've never had a problem flying Thai, except for the price.

If you're saving your pennies, there's a few backpackers in town: Banana Bender, The Downunder, and it would be easy to catch a train to Park Road station, walk down to Annerley Road about 100m, turn right and walk another 50 metres.

At some point, convenience is usually worth paying for. Diana Hotel, as someone already mentioned, is only a short walk down Annerley Road.

  9. I ended up catching a taxi, the taxi couldn't find the way to Khao Sahn (even with my level 1 Thai) - we found many Thanon pit.

    :o

I wanted the Blue Cheeseburger, so instead I went to Tops, then McDonalds and made my own. Next time, I'll do it properly.
