  1. You just became part of the Thai system of corruption is the only thing that I can see. You could have done this all on your own and should have from where I stand on this issue. It might have been a bit of a hassle for you but then I think you might have least gotten someone to take the car in for you and then the car could have been checked out properly.

    It's all nice and good to have friends that can assist you to get things done but at least try to do the right thing and get the car or whatever checked out. I'm from the US and we have yearly safety checks on ALL vehicles and think this should be cdone here, no matter the age of the car. Granted there are people that you can go to and get a bogus safety check but when there is an accident then you will be in alot of trouble if it is found out.

    No, you weren't ripped off, you helped to rip off Thai society by contributing to the problem of corruption and other bad business practices. You were just lazy and didn't care. Why do you think you see so many accidents from the busses and other vehicles due to bad maintenence?

  2. A couple of things to add to this thread to make things go easier for you besides bring all the required documents. I keep all of this in a folder just for this occasion. I ALWAYS go with my wife and little girl to immigration for my 1 year extensions as I was told that I had to have them there on the first visit and I think they would rather you have them there on every visit after that. I think this is because they would like to know that you are with the same person. I am always courtious to the staff there and them seeing my little girl running around seems to make things go smoother. They asked my wife a lot of questions the first time but hardly asked anything of her on our second visit. (just wanted to know if she was happy, that's what my wife said they asked)

    The 90 day reporting is really easy to do and it is required. I screwed up with my last one and was 14 days late. I just went in yesterday and got it straightened out at a cost of 2000 baht for being over 7 days late. As far as I can figure from the law is that you can be 6 days late but on the 7th day you will pull the fine of 2000 baht. It doesn't get higher than that.

    The 400k in the bank is for you to live on and what Immigration wants to see is that you are using it (not just a deposit one day and then the money disappears a few days later) I'm a DAV from the Army and on a pension and just show a statement from the US Embassy stating that I do infact receive such pension and what amount. I also show them my Thai bank passbook and a letter from the bank. Immigration would think it strange to just keep your money in the bank without using it and may cause problems for you.

    The main thing about doing ANYTHING with immigration is to remain calm, show respect and be nice. Like the old saying: You draw more bees with honey than you do with vinegar.

Let me get this straight, you make eye contact, ask her to join you, talk for whatever time, invite her home, she goes with a total stranger, no talk of money but you HELP her, she asks about being your maid, you say "I am not looking for a housekeeper, but a wife / lover / life partner etc….", do I have this RIGHT?

    Now you come to the forum and asks views from a bunch of people that have in most instances have been there done that a lot and exactly what do you expect to get for an answer?

    1) You're the luckiest guy on the planet and have met a woman that is going to be the best thing since the internet started (about her birth 25 years ago). You got to know ALL about the girl in the 3-4+ hours that you talked and don't need to know any more. Had some great sex. The age isn't really a factor considering that you are 42 and by todays standards the 17 years is not too far of a distance. Go for it and live happily ever after.

    2) You've made multiple visits (14) to Thailand in the last 4 years and have had friends that have done the same, if not similar thing in this time. Some have the greatest partner that they have ever had and others have woken up into their biggest nightmare. Others have been ripped off to where they don't have a pot to piss in but their gf or Exs are living the high life.

    3) You're going through male menapause (spelling) and don't have a clue. The girl comes up with the idea of being your MAID and you don't get her point that she's not thinking the same as you.

    There are a thousands of responses that you could get from this scenario and who will make the final call on what happens? YOU, you are the only one that can make this call. I think it kind of childish on your part to ask anyone else. You have to ask yourself other questions that will answer it for you.

    Who is this girl REALLY?

    kinda hard for me to think you can know someone in 3-4 hours talking and emails....

    What kind of education does she have?

    can she fit into your circle of friends and business contacts and be able to get respected for who she is and not just on looks. Communication is also a big issue, can she speak English or can you speak Thai. Will she be able to do things on her own without you? Not important to some on this point also but...

    What kind of expectations does she (or her family) have of you?

    think this might come into play somewhere in your relationship. Of course if you're like Pneusted, you can give MILLIONS of baht to her and the family and not bat an eye. And after that influx of money they will be doing OK for themselves but you continue to give. Or you are just going to take care of yours and her needs and help whenever possible and not get yourself into the monthly payment to said family or then again just not give anything and be an A$$.

    Are you going to have to move here or will you expect her to go with you?

    This has presented many problems for people in the past because the girl decides that either she doesn't like where you live or can't get Thai food or Thai tv or a multitude of different points for why she can't stay with you. Can you afford to sellup and move here with the chance that you invest all of what you have just to find that it's not what you thought originally?

    There are NO clear answers to your situation. Make decisions by what you know to be TRUE and don't get yourself wrapped into the idea that it's all going to be perfect because you fell in "love at first site"!

    let me guess,that as the camera is supposed to start at 08.00am, and Martin is certainly not there yet, for Thais 08.00am is sometimes between 08.00am and 12.00am? :o

    I know it starts at 8 and I have just tried again at 9 and get the same response no matter what time of day or night. IS there something I am missing here? Do I have to do anything else besides click on http://203.170.206.182

  5. I ran across this site from one of the forums I belong to: http://www.craftytv.com/

    It has mostly cartoons on it but a few older British shows plus some US tv series. I use 512/256 from true and could not get it at any kind of decent rate until I emailed the guy running the show and he gave me a 2 week trial to see how it would work. I still can't get a nonstop showing of any of the programs but could watch if totally bored and put up with the pauses. I know some of you are on higher speeds and would like to know what you get and is it any good.

    I have a few other problems with this that I am going to tell the guy about when I get something from the rest of you for the free settup.

    I can't seem to adjust the volume or screen size or make any of the other buttons to work.

  8. I call England, US and Australia a fair bit and most of the time it's fantastic, clear as if I was on a regular line or better. I do find that it works so much better with headphones but trying to convince people to use them is sometimes hard to do. I just wish I could get all my rellies and friends to sign up for it but all seem leary of using as they think there is spyware, adware or the possibility of viruses. Knock on wood, but I have NEVER had any of this happen to me. It is better than Yahoo or MSN for sure.

  9. TM is just wants to stir people and doesn't know how to communicate any other way. I'm beginning to think that he and GS are the same person. No sense of direction and nothing really to contribute. Of course GS can get a laugh but too bad it's at him instead of with him.

    has now published a recommendation

    to the surgical profession that

    Laparoscopy ('keyhole surgery')

    is NOT recommended for primary

    groin hernia repair.

    This concurs with the view held at The British Hernia Centre and certain other hernia experts in the USA over the last ten years.

    The Royal College of Surgeons had previously said:

    "Until [laparoscopic] techniques are standardised and fully tested... they cannot be considered for everyday practice."

    This is why I'm trying to get the "Mesh" put in to help stop this from happening again.
