I moved back 2 years ago with my Thai wife and our son, it's the best move I've made, after 8 years in Thailand and not getting anywhere, we moved to the UK, our son is doing great at school and we own a pub debt free, business is good and getting better so we are all happy.
We plan on ending up in Thailand again once we have made our money and our son is educated.
I am sure you won't regret the move.

Hi there,
I have posted loads over the years and I am sure one time I remember seeing 1600 plus posts under my name, but looking the last few weeks I have noticed that it is showing a lot less, last week 265 and this week 199 posts. You need 500 for bedlam and I can still access it but why are my posts showing less than I've posted?
I did take a break for about 18 months, could this be the reason?

Spoke to the owner of a well established chain of pubs in Thailand just after he opened his first in Pattaya a few years back, he said he has to pay the Russians down there. No way! I don't believe it. He was having you on. I worked for a "well established chain of pubs in Thailand" at the highest level, Pattaya Phuket, Samui, Bangkok, and the only money we had to pay out in that way was to the Boys in brown.

I lived in Thailand for 8 years and left last year. I loved it there, had a great job and enjoyed my lifestyle very much but in the end decided that my sons education was more important than me having fun. I do have very big plans on returning in a few years time. by then I hope Thailand will be more stable all around. I was working in Silom when it kicked off with the red shirts and it was then that I started thinking of returning home.
since being back in the UK things have been good, it was very hard work at first, finding a good job, home and in a good area for schools and everything else that comes with it. My wife has settled in very well, she is enjoying our way of life but she does miss her job very much, it would be great to get her a job over here that is in line with what she was doing in Thailand. Sales for food and beverage companies, she traveled a lot with that job and I think she would like to do that here. but unfortunatly she has only found part time waitress possition at Thai restaurants.
My son is now 4 and his English is great, he is doing well in Nursery and looking forward to starting school in September. he also loves life over here, more freedom in many ways for him, nice playing fields and interesting places to walk to or around. bike riding and such.
My job is is good, I am looking forward to moving on and eventually running my own pub, so yeah, its not been bad over here.
I do miss my social life and miss my mates very much but the benefits of moving home have out-weighed all of that and we now look forward to holiday there.
I left for a reason, and if I were not married and had no children I would of happly stayed in Bangkok. so if you are going to leave make sure you have a good reason to as that will make it easier when you look back wondering why you did it.
P.S
only come back if you have the possibility to find a decent job, or you have savings. It took me a year to find the Job I want. I did work in the meantime, but didnt enjoy the jobs. also it is expensive, car insurance and fuel is a joke. so do your homework before moving so you dont get a shock.

If you can't afford to send a couple of hundred pounds back to the UK every month then I doubt you are really doing that great money wise in Thailand.
They will not chase you for the Debt, but you will have a bad credit rating when you return. Not because of an un paid debt but because they will not be able to see what you have been doing while you've been away. When they do credit checks they like to see money coming in every month and direct debits being paid off. If your away you can't do this, so it will be that that will give you a head ache when you come back.

The incident was reported to local police, who are investigating.
Consider it solved.
most probably.Actually thai police are pretty smart in solving cases especially getting leads etc. They may not be CSI but if the Australian Embassy is serious about getting to the bottom of this and piles pressure on the relevant authorities the results will come in. The shooting doesn't sound random but I think its premature to speculate.
Hopefully they won't just find a fall guy though.
I don't agree! If the Embassy puts pressure on the police to solve the case then some poor hill tribe boy will be picked up and beaten until he confesses.

Is Their no safety in this county
Waiting for the correction

Of course if you are worried about your perosnal safety you can find a country that is totally safe. Not. Does not exist.
Bus crashes hapeen everywhere. Bus drivers everywhere still drive by the might is right rule with a few exceptions. That
relates to the smaller give way to the bigger.
You come to Thailand because it is less constrictive than your home country. In truth the rule are different but are what we
appreciate and why we live here.
Please send the forum an email from whichever country you find that is "safe". Dont forget to look at personal safety, crime statistics,
vehicle safety issues as well as driving ability and licencing plus the million and one other things that make this mythical country
you want to live in "safe".
And good luck
The UK
Ha ha . No way. The day I arrived back to the UK last month was the same day a bus crashed on the M25 killing 4 and blocking the Mway for 12 hours.
It's not just Thailand that have the problems. Although it's less frequent in the UK, it still happens.
