  1. Now that is a funny post by the OP!

Just coz he can't drive or know where it is safe to park a car he warns us all that it is dangerous to own a car over here.

Park your car where nobody can drive into it unless they try to. Even if you have to walk a little further.

I bet your accidents could of been avoided had you learnt to look all around you at all times while driving.

Anyway, stay safe on those buses!

  2. There is a number but not sure what it is. I did use it once to arrange a cab to take me to the airport and guess what? When he never turned up we called again and was told they are busy!

So now I never bother calling and always arrange something else.

  3. Thanks Streetcowboy. To be honest I think since I have made my mind up about going home, I seem to be seeing more and more negative things about Thailand. Really at the moment I cannot wait to go. I am very excited and hope it works out for us.

The house was a worry, but we managed to find a buyer and we should be out at the end of this month. I hope.

We lost everything we put in to it but at the same time I am grateful that we do not have to keep paying the mortgage or have to worry about credit in the future.

    Thanks again.

  4. I am leaving next month.

Reasons are education for my boy, I want him to grow up in the UK.

I'm also looking forward to doing certain things I miss. Like mountain biking, and working with professionals in my field. I'm tired of working with people who have a higher degree from uni than I and it's me who has to clear up there incompetence.

Having said that though, I will miss Thailand very much.

  5. What a load of crap!

Sort out the political <deleted> they have going on in Thailand,

Then sort out the dramas in the muddle east.

Stop the volcanoes from spewing ash out.

    Bring down fuel prices.

And sort out the economy in the west.

We might have a few people leaving home for there holidays then.

Let's face it, even if all the above is good, the scams over here are probably keeping many more away.

  6. These "Callcenters" work like normal callcenters in Europe. Its just a little bit cheaper to have them here in Thailand. As far as I know people start working 2 o clock noon, and finish 10 in the evening, saturday and sunday AND public hollidays off. They get around 40K Baht a month, so easy work and easy money. Some of them have work permits, some of them dont. The Callcenter saves a lot of money for a shop the same size in Germany or somewhere esle in Europe and for the staff as well.

Do u really belive when you call a service center for a bank or whatever in England, somewhere in England they will answer the call? Its India where the call centers are located. Welcome to the 21st (:

People in Bangalore or Angeles City speaking with phony accents and giving you inaccurate information on behalf of a bank or airline are one thing but these people were stealing money from their marks pretending to be an employment agency or provide some telemarketing product. If Thailand allows these crimes to take place from its territory because it can't or won't control its corrupt police, then the Thai government is complicit in the theft.

you hit the nail on the head. as long as some bib have open pockets for some teamoney out of these kind of businesses who is to blame? Thailand becomes more and more Land of Scammers with knowledge of the Authorities......never happend when Thaksin is still here (:

Yes it did happen when Taksin was here!

  7. And the second report about a horrific traffic accident involving a minivan/bus in one single day! All you can do is only shake your head in resignation, because nothing will ever change in this country. Road safety and driving instruction are foreign concepts.

Do a little test with your taxi driver: As he whizzes you to your destination at breakneck speed, ask him about individual traffic signs and what they mean. You'll be lucky if he gets 1 out of 10 right. Traffic signs are just there to decorate roadsides and serve no tangible purpose.

Most of taxi drivers are drunks, who have no basic education, who cannot read the map, or even worse the road signs. Also they think they are very cool by driving fast, pushing the cars around. I haven't taken a taxi for years and not looking forward to taking one.

Now we have an expert on taxis and their drivers who hasent been in one in years.

Yes I use then in BKK also.

I agree! Most taxi drivers are drunk. I take a taxi every night around 2 am. I've been hit in my car by a drunk taxi driver as well.

    They are useless.

  8. Hired a bus for a staff trip a few years ago. He drove like hi was from a looney bin! Scared the shit out of everyone.

A year later we hired another bus and I pulledthe driver to one side and said if any of my staff complain of bad driving you will not get this 1000 Baht I was showing him. that worked.

Isn't it ashame they can only do things for money! Not coz it was his job or anything.

Better to be 10 minutes late than 30 years early.

I think you're quote " Isn't it a shame they can only do things for money! Not coz it was his job or anything" is wrong and unjustified!!! You can't offer such an incentive as this and claim that the only reason the driver drove sensibly was because of the money offered up. How do you know he wouldn't have driven sensibly anyway and was just grateful for the bonus money?? If it had been the SAME driver who "drove like he was in a looney bin" the first time round - then fair enough, it probably would have been because of the money. I hope you can see the distinction between the two situations.

Sure you could be right! But there is truth in my post as well. I remember my staff were very grateful for me doing that. So I think I was correct in doing it.

  9. Does anyone know in which Songkwae the accident took place? (there are 2 songkwae dsitricts in Nan, one about 20km west of the city, the other around 60-70km to the north...)

Alos, does anyone know what the weather was like at the time of the accident (in both areas there is usually early morning fog. Sometimes visibility can be down to 10-20meters.)

Since the group was heading to/from Tung Chang to/from Chiang Rai, I'm guessing that they were travelling on Highway 1148, and going through the Songkwae in the north.

Some people seem quick to blame the driver/reckless driving... but anyone who's been to either Songkwae will know that both roads are very steep, winding mountain roads. They are also quite narrow and very, very dangerous especially if the weather's bad, or it's foggy.

I'm not saying the driver wasn't to blame... but maybe people should wait until there's more information before blaming the accident soley upon him.

RIP to the dead, and I hope the injured recover quickly...

    Don't be so wet!

If the roads and visibility are that bad then the driver should slow right down so he can cope with conditions.

Only one vehicle involved, of course it was the driver to blame.
