  1. I need a foolproof method of passing them from behind.

Usually a Thai will be veering to the left as I approach from behind so I move to the right to pass but as I do so they move right to block my move.

Like you say they seem to have a psychic ability to know where you are going to go.

A method that I've had some success with is to 'sell them a dummy' to use a footballing term, where you feign to move right and as soon as they veer right you jump left and pass.

I was thinking of trying to refine it to be more like a Ronaldo 'step over' move but haven't had the patience lately and am more likely to just shove them out the way.

So maybe we could combine our techniques in that patent application?

What irks me is when they walk slowly and drift from side to side when they are aware you are behind, attempting to pass.

If they ignore me, I step on their heels(by accident).

It's fun and makes me feel a whole lot better.

Try it. You'll be glad you did.

This is what I do also. It happened in Silom last week coming off the skytrain to into Central some guy on his phone walked right in front of me and slowed down blocking me. So I trod on his heal and his shoe came off. Lol

Doubt he learnt from it though.

Try it when they have flip flops on. They normally fall over!

  2. What do you expect when starting salaries are about 7,000 Baht a month and they have to equip themselves with their own guns and motorcycles? We really have no idea do we? Thing is, if they were paid more, they may just then get on with focusing their attention on reality of crime and enforcement rather than ways to survive. It is as much the administrations problem as the police. I have no time for the police but I do understand their situation and can empathise (not sympathise). ermm.gif

I dont agree! I had a case where I paid staff much more than the going rate because i wanted to build the best team up possible. it backfired. half of them left coz they got bad debt through gambling and the other half thought I was soft and took everything else they could. give them an inch sort of thing.

the Thai police would be worse if they got paid more. they become the way they are because they have power!

who on this forum has ever had to promote a staff member to a manager or superviser? 9 x out of 10 they will stop working, there old work buddys will stop talking to them because they have gone on a power trip, always better to bring in a new manager.

  4. The only place I got poisoned in 8 years of living here was at a 5 star hotel buffet!

Street food has never given me problems.

Try the fresh squeezed oranges selling from street carts, that always gets me everytime.

No chance, never know how many days that stuff has been sitting in the heat.

  5. I just had this done along with another one and it cost 1,500 baht including monks blessing. At a temple in Ayutyha.

My post was to Micky by the way.

  6. Eating insects isn't exactly taboo here in Thailand, but these are not for eating. This is more of a good luck talisman of sorts. They keep a jar of popped rice with these ant-like bugs. I think its something like the more bugs they have, the more money the'll have/make.

Correct. My wife have a small fish tank filled with those critters. :D

Fishtank? Are you rich ? :D

  7. ... I was talking to a fellow today who works with a large oil concern and he was telling me about how he was responsible for paying all the bribes to the Thai government officials....

That is total BS. It is highly doubtful that any western "oil concern" is openly paying bribes nad even if they were the person "responsible for paying all the bribes" would never admit doing so to anyone.

Also worth noting is that there is no reason for an "oil concern" in Thailand to be paying bribes to "Thai government officials" in first place. Did he mention what the "bribes" were for?

Your example rather then showing how corrupt Thailand is only shows how ignorant you are of how business in Thailand works, especially the oil business.

    TH

Bribes are a part of daily life in Thailand. I've had to do it in business here many many times. It's normal for me now as that is how it's done here.

So I would say it is you who are ignorant on how Thailand works.
