  1. HI Guys,

ive got to fly back to the UK soon, I have not gone back for 8 years so have no idea where a good deal is to be had. can anyone help out please?

I wanted to go next month around the 7th but work has asked me to stay on for 1 more month, so will probably be first week in April now. I only need a one way as I am moving back to the UK with my family, only I will go first to set things up before my family come. so if anyone knows of any good websites to get a good flight deal please let me know. I would prefer a non stop to Heathrow or Gatwick if possible please.

also, would you recomend me taking baht to the UK and changing there into pounds or changing before I leave. and should I change now or wait until I go?

    cheers for the help.

    thanks

  2. I need to get my sons passport sorted out. does anyone know what paperwork I will need to present? I can find a website with these details.

I just order online a copy of my birth certificate and hopefully that will be here soon. what else would I need to make this a painless application?

Thanks for the help 7by7, great post and it will come in use when I get to the UK.

  3. wow, some really good advise and help here guys, Thanks for that.

I am not interested in sponging off the government but its nice to know its there if I need it.

    new developements:

already have places to choose from where I can stay, all three places are looking for my skills in work, so I reckon I will have a job pretty soon, even if it is not a good paying one it will do for starters.

I have been in contact with a few diferent online job centers which have all got back to me with positive news.

I left the UK when I was 19, having only worked for 9 months after leaving collage. I have no clue as to what my NI number is so I will have to apply for this, where would I do that?

so apart from having to sort out my NI number what else would I need to do before starting work?

I have an old bank account still in my name, no money in it though for years but its still there. so I will revive that.

  4. Thaicbr

We have already made cut backs. Sold my car last year, got rid of certain things we were paying for monthly and saved around 45k a month altogether.

We can't down size the house because we can't sell. It's been on the market for 18 months with no bites.

We have made our minds up and think it's the right move, so we are going to go. If we don't like it we can always come back when things are better.

My main question is, would it work ok for me to move over to the UK now and find work and a home then apply for my wife to come later? I'm thinking I will be set up within 3 months. Would this work or would it be better to arrange visas now and she comes right after me?

Probably better to have work and a home first I guess. If so then is it easy enough to apply for her visa while I am in the UK?

  5. My wife works in sales for food companies selling to hotels imported products.

Very good at her job, very good English and very confident. I don't think she will struggle looking for work once she is in the UK.

She hopes to find work co-ordinating between Thailand and the UK in a sales position with one of her suppliers.

  6. Hi guys, thanks very much for your answers.

I work as a chef / restaurant manager in Thailand. If I can't find this line of work in the UK I have no problem working in a factory or warehouse either. I'm 35 years old, which may help, good experience with working abroad for 16 years.

I will go the the Embassy on Thursday to start the ball rolling. Also I will send my CV to some agents and job centres. I plan to go to Norwich but can just as easy go to West London as I have family in both places.

I have moved to 4 countries before without a job to go to and taken a chance which have all worked out. So not worried about doing it again, except now I have a family to care for, so this time will be different.

I resigned today, a big weight off my shoulders! Boss very understanding which is good. I will probably stay working here for a month or 6 weeks then head home to try and make a go of it.

Wife is looking forward to the UK, I hope it's as good as she thinks it will be. I have good family so will have some support but I don't like to take libertys.

I will keep you all posted with daily updates.

If any of you have any ideas, feel free to post them.

    Thank you

  7. Hi guys, need some help with a few questions please! I have searched through the forum but everyones problems seem to be different.

My son is 3 in two months time and I am not in the position to pay for a decent education for him. I have had bad luck in work over the last year and have now come to the conclusion that things are not going to improve in my line of work in Thailand.

at the moment I am on a very low salary and between my wife and I we bring home enough to pay the morgage, car and bills with nothing left at the end of the month. My wife needs the car for her job so no way to sell to save money. already sold mine 6 months ago.

    so here is the question/s!

we have decided to try the UK, I am certain I will find work, it might not be the greatest of pay but I am sure it will be enough to get us through until I find something better.

what would be the best way to go about going home? if I were to leave Thailand in two weeks time would it be easy enough to sort out my wifes visa from the UK or should we get that all sorted before I go. I need to go first to set up work and home for us so thats why I ask.

I guess the Visa will be easy enough to obtain, we have beend married 5 years and have a 3 year old. I do not to sort out a UK passport for my son also, so will get cracking with that this week.

any advice will be much appreciated, and I will check in on the post everyday when I get a few minutes at work.

    thank you

  8. Greetings all. The last few mornings I have been going to the bar in Chawang. I dump the bike then walk round to McD's for a coffee. Just outside the McD's sit the taxi bikes. Every morning as I approach the place to get my coffee the same guy jumps up and asks whether I need a taxi. The first couple of times I can think OK but surely he must have cottoned onto the fact by now that I'm going into McD's and don't need a taxi bike  He has though stopped asking if I want a taxi when I come out with my coffee ;) While I'm on the rant there's more.

The same girl serves me every morning. I get a large black coffee every day. After about 5 days she has finally got this right yet every day she puts the cup under the machine and presses the button to start the filling. EVERY time she pulls the cup out before it has stopped, looks baffled that coffee is still coming and but by the time the penny has dropped and she has put the cup back under the machine has finished pouring. No big deal really but just how hard is it to do ? :o That' the rant over, roll on beer o'clock :D

I remember once in Pattaya I was at the red light in my car with the window down and a motorbike taxi asked me if I wanted a taxi!!!!

    The guy looked serious!

    :-0

  9. ragged hair, full beard, torn clothes, no shoes, covered in dirt and grime, and he's got this creepy thousand yard stare.

Most of these guys prefer to live this way, they're usually rich guys who just love the carefree lifestyle

Yes, I myself know many millionaires who prefer to walk around in torn clothes and no shoes smelling like they haven't had a bath in 6 months. Such a carefree lifestyle!

  10. Interesting that you mention supermarkets. My wife and I now shop separately with our children because it used to be such a nightmare. We have two boys aged three and four and things would get very hectic. They might be both in the trolley and throwing things out of the trolley or fighting each other whilst my wife takes ages to decide what brand of rice to get. Meanwhile I am getting more and more pissed off with her taking so long because it's me who is trying to control the children. I don't really want to have to give them a smack in the middle of the store because then everyone is looking at me like I'm the big bad foreigner who doesn't love his kids and my wife gets embarrassed but sometimes it would happen. The other thing that would happen is that they wouldn't be in the trolley but running around in the aisles and again I'm trying to push the trolley and watch to see what they are doing. I think for them it is exciting to be out somewhere so they like to have fun and play with each other. We noticed though that things were fine when they weren't with each other, it was only when they were together that it used to be a nightmare. Our solution: we go to Big C together and my wife takes the oldest with her, I go across the road to Big King by Carrefour with the youngest because he's more of a handful where I have a few cans of beer. My wife then calls me when she is at the checkout and I then cross back over to help her and the stuff into the taxi. Problem solved and I've had a few beers as well. To the OP I would say give people a break. It's not easy for people with kids and it depends on what you mean when you say running wild. Generally speaking I very rarely see any kids worse than mine so I know what I'm talking about. In an ideal world we would have a babysitter who could look after them whilst we went shopping but that isn't going to happen. Children will be children at the end of the day. Lighten up.

excellent solution! You get quietly pissed before driving the whole family home.

read it again! there is a taxi mentioned.

  11. Jamerson, corner Silon-Surasak road next to Holiday Inn hotel,

    Nice place but very quite.

Is that the one next to the Vodka Ice Bar? It always seems very quiet down that end of Silom. I wonder how these places manage to stay in business.

I know it.. been there, loved the food, when I went they were really busy. Really nice manager by the name of Ian(i think), really looked after us, music and atmosphere was really good.. Went there last Saturday

They do this Hot wing challenge. Saw some guy crying trying to do it.. The Burgers were extremely good.. They were reviewed in the Big Chili recently which is why I went
