I'm just wonder though. I also thought CR have several nice hotels (the looking of it not about the food).

Why so many hotels anyways i dont understand. This province should have good public transport, better city planning, more recreations ect...

Thats what this town/province need...sorry i am abit off topic. :o

    Thanks konjianghai for all information!

    :o:D:D

You're welcome and pls read my other post, now the mobile service will be returning to CR this month.

Your wife might already had done her new passport in CM but if she didnt pls inform her about the news.

  4. Mae Sai is in CR i dont really see it should be a sub forum, if each district have its own sub forum it will be too many.

By the way the pinned section i hardly looking at it unless i pay attention. I rather like the plain topic section.

What i would like though if we can somehow add Phayao with CR will be nice, its close to CR, quite decent numbers of expats lives there too.

Also Phayao was part of CR before.

  5. Actually the road from Laos to Jinghong/Yunnan is finish. About from CR this road distance were about 250-300 kms, am sorry i forget the exact kilometers.

Dont know about the driving licences, you can still contact this info in your local Khon Soong. If you have Thai driven licence i think you can drive up to southern China.

To Niloc, you want to travel there by a bus? I dont think there is a bus service that drive over there like normal schedule busses, you can only make bus trip with tour agency. There's 2 way to cross over into Laos at Chiang Khong, either by boat or tour bus/van. Its possible to rent private bus/van to Jinghong/Yunnan but i dont know on this.

If you want to go by yourself with the bus, maybe you should call some tour agency up either in CM itself or in CR, perhaps you can tag along without taking the travel package, maybe its possible but i rather think not really.

  6. Are you people sure its Thai culture just because they broadcast local events i dont see it as a culture. Its village society not culture because in the city ppl dont do this.

I hate those broadcast too but i respect public proverty and will never vandalize them. Maybe if i'm really pissed and angry like that guy, who knows.

I live in Chiang Mai and I frequent Lamphun quite often during lunch time. I know Lamphun is not huge city but then again it's no village either. But to correct you, yes they do blare the PA system there almost everyday during lunch at one of the local schools making announcements. So it's not just the villages that this occurs at.

No need to correct me since i'm Thai i know how things work at my village. The city i'm talking about are villages inside the inner city. School always pull their volume at luch time mostly pop music flavours from the students not forget to mention even their fanfare music rehearsal for sport event. What happen in school is dead normal, almost any school do that. But arent the OP mentioned about the village annoucement?

  7. Ajarn Chalermchai did excellent job, its very beautiful indeed. I think from just starring at the clock could cause accidents, haha.

I saw Arjarn Chalermchai in a talk show, he told at night cars would just falling into the small moat (next to the road) because they were starring at the temple (you know how beautiful the lights were at night time).

  8. Good news for Chiang Rai citizens! No need to travel for passport aplication to Chiang Mai or Bangkok. Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be station their mobile service at Samakkhi high school (Amphur Muang) on 17-20 december from 8.00-16.30 pm. The fee is 1000 bath.

Thanks for this, it will save us a trip to Chiang Mai.

That was annoucement of last year. :o

However its possible the mobile services will return to CR around the same month which i doubt it.

If your wife need new passport, CM is the answer.

  12. You're all welcome jao...next time i will be announce about the news again!

    Hi konjianghai,

Have you heard if they will come to Chiang Rai this year too?

My wife´s passport is running out end of next month.

    Thanks!

At the moment there is no passport news in CR. The passport services only limited to 30 times a year, rotating through out the country. Now 3 southern provinces are on the turn. I think you should let your wife call the consular department in CM, maybe its possible to send the needed documents by post or she need to travel down there.

I dont think they will extending old passport for domestic citizens (only to Thais living abroad). However let your wife make a phone call first hand, if necessary to make new one at CM its not such big deal isnt? It would only take 1 day to make one and 5 days later the passport will be sending to her by post.

The fee is 1000 baht, 35 fee for passport by post, documents would be ID card, maybe Tabian Ban but i dont think its important since most info are on electronic ID card anyway. Also possible for 2 small size front picture of her. However i'm not sure myself if its all correct about needed documents. Give them a ring i would recommend.

Here is Thai address and phone numbers. Good luck to your wife with her passport.

Consular Departement Chiang Mai at Salaklang jungwat Chiang Mai (new building) Amphur Muang 50300 Chiang Mai

  13. Although i've never build my own house but only a small shop (of course i'm not at the scene but my family handle all the stuff), its best to pay the whole work at once then paying the workers by day. They will work faster to get the loan, if you pay by day the progress is slower cause you pay them per day, sure ppl gonna take it easy and extending the job longer.

Lots of luck in your future house.

  15. Its kind of sad we dont have art school in CR while we have alot of artists here (well known in national level too).

Maybe is best for you to contact local artist around your location.

    From this site : http://www.chiangraifocus.com/guide_book/l...artis/index.htm

If you live in Amphur Muang area you can contact one of these people, perhaps they can give your son private lesson.

    Good luck!

  16. A Central complex in C.Rai is needed about as much as another place with blasting music and endless displays of things to buy that no one but 15 year old girls might think they need.

buy buy buy! Everything's plastic or knock-off flashy latter-day tinsel. If it's remotely edible it's crammed with sugar, saturated oil (trans-fats), and/or salt and MSG. Oh, and don't forget the 497 varieties of whitening cream and other vanity products that don't work. Will it ever be possible for Thai women to revert back to appreciating their natural beauty and skin tone?

Burma and Laos and Cambodia aren't yet as consumer-crazed as Thailand. That's why it's a relief to step outside the borders once in awhile.

Thought you would like a western movie theater like Major...yeah they might come with Central Plaza.

In the future Laos and Cambodia will become just like Thailand. Believe me :o

  17. What do you mean by Central plaza? Do you mean the HaYaak? Where the king Mengrai statute is? If so I'll take a look there today.

    Its a mall. http://www.central.co.th/index_en.html

They gonna build a new branch in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai altough Chiang Mai already have Central which is Kard Suankaew and Central Airport Plaza, they already bough the land.

The building site is opposite Big C so you might know where to look for.

  18. How do you feel about this? Good or bad? I was surprise about this.

Any of you saw any commercial board display in town? They will be finish over 2 years or so. I guess not big as the article i read stated the building will have 3 levels.

:o at one point am happy we will get more shopping choice but on the other hand its kinda of sad to know CR is changing.

    P.S Almost forget...

20-21 September they will held a racing event at old airport.

20/09/2008 from 8.00-16.00 (test drive in the afternoon).

21/09/2008 from 8.00-17.00 (race) include a gig show.

  19. do you still have to have the Thai Windows installed? I've got the fonts, if I can use old ones from Win98SE in WinXP, and I think I've got an old keyboard around here, too.... You're right about consuming time - it's been many years since I typed Thai! And with not many Thai friends here to speak with, I "uu baw jaang laew!"

I'll have to install a few of the fonts and see what happens!

    Thanks.

Thats not important. I'm using Window XP and only install Thai font, work just fine. You'll get use to it after some typin'.

Dont let the language die out of you, its important you keep identity with you, language is one of it. Also not to forget to keep in touch with people backhome. You can join me in CM77.ORG/BOARD webboard. A little community of kon muang on the net. :o

  20. Doi Chang coffee is cheaper in the country compare to what they sell in Europe, north America and Japan.

In Thailand for 1 kg you will pay around 1300--1600 Baht per kilo while abroad its 200 or more in US Dollar.

Gee, 1300 Baht to 200 USD! Maybe I'm in the wrong line of work.... :D

I am ready to start a company with you mcgriffith if konjianghai can sell a kg of thai-coffee in US for 200 US!

    :o:D:D

LolZ...well thats what i've read from an article (thai one). Start at 60 till 200 US Dollar...this can be real right. I dont know how this coffee business work anyway.

Here is the article they mentioned the pricelist. :D maybe i shouldnt have trust on what was saying.

    http://www.thannews.th.com/detialnews.php?...&issue=2196

  21. sometimes, I wish my keyboard here in the US would type Thai !

Why should you wish...you can buy Thai keyboard or stickers for that. Like me 555.

Or just install Thai font and looking for Thai alphabet table, compare it with your Romanize alphabet. You should be able to use Thai font as well.

But i know it consuming time. :o
