You still don't get it. You get nothing extra for paying income taxes or a wealth tax that is looming, no health care, no residence status, just polluted air. You still have essentially a 1 year tourist visa which is called retirement visa, 90 day report, renew visa yearly, etc. There is zero added value for paying any taxes. If you filed a tax return in Canada, and it sounds like you are from there, at least you would be a legal immigrant and get health care for what that is worth there. Here, they just laugh at you.

Such wishful comments by dreamers. This wealth tax is again linked to the CRS. For example if you had a bank account in NZ and did stock trading thru it and had term deposits, first off this NZ bank will insist on your Thai tax number, no number, they will make you close this account. If you do provide a TIN since they know you reside in Thailand, they will automatically report to the Thai gov your total assets in NZ and exactly how much you earn there, every single year. And Thailand has active CRS agreements in place with all countries that matter, even China and Russia !

The foreigners in Thailand, especially the retirees, are sitting ducks. Canada is part of the OECD and CRS agreement for years and if you lived in Canada, you would have to report your world income, same as coming to Thailand. But at least Canada makes you a legal immigrant and gives you health care for what that is worth there. Here, you will just get laughed at.

Even if you paid only 100 baht, you get nothing in return except more polluted air. Still have to do 90 day, have to report to immigration within 24 hours even if you stayed 1 nite in a hotel, max retirement visa is 1 year which is nothing more than a tourist visa, can't own land, no health care, no immigrant status, etc. Talk about a rip off.

Stop forcing foreigners to file a tax return if a tax resident and pay taxes on their world income. This is absolutely essential in attracting wealthy foreigners. After all, the Thai government gives absolutely nothing for paying taxes, no health care, no residence status.
