  1. I had problems with Flash after having installed the latest version (17.0.0.169). The problem seems to have gone away for the time being although I'm unsure why.

Have a read of this :-

    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2928413&sid=53c1acfbf2bf3b7a99c3d5654faa1724

There maybe other posts here that are related..

Also, the latest beta version of Flash, contains the following in the 'Change Log' :-

Improvements included in Flash Player Beta and Firefox Nightly builds resolve a large number of intermittent hangs on Windows

I've yet to go down that route.

  2. Firstly, apologies if this is answered elsewhere. Please direct me if needed.

A British friend of mine staying in Pattaya wants a Non-Imm 'O' (12 mth, multi) visa in order to convert it into a Retirement visa. He has a tourist visa about to expire & was told (by authorities in Bangkok) that there is insufficient time remaining on it to convert it into a Non-imm 'O'. (I was suprised that this conversion is even allowed by the Embassy or whoever in BKK).

Do the 'Visa shops' still provide this service ??

If he goes back to the UK, what are the requirements ?? I've heard different stories from various people - that you need to be 65 (I thought it was 50); need to provide evidence of income either 1000GBP a month or have 20K GBP in an account.

If anyone has definitive answers to these questions it would be greatly appreciated. The consulate websites give some info but there is no mention of minimum age etc.

  3. I'll just give my thoughts here on all this.

GMM is a sister company of CTH & are far more reliable from what I've heard from friends who have it. It is also cheaper.

For example the package to watch EPL is around 449bht/month as opposed to CTH's 1000bht-ish. (GMM have bought the rights to show EPL & so the channels are the same i.e. Stadium 1,2,3,4,5,X etc) and they're in High-def. Standard-def-only channels are available for about half the price i.e. about 220Bht/month. You do have to buy the dish & the set-top box

Might be worth looking into if it is available in your area/s. It uses the same dish as CTH - just points to BKK instead of Vietnam.

  4. Used Zenmate (on Chrome) for a while then one day it didn't seem to work at all. I tried 'Hola' and it works perfectly.

This is what it says in Zenmate's FAQ :-

During our market rollout, we are offering accounts with unlimited traffic to all new users for a limited amount of time. In the future we will offer free accounts with a limited amount of monthly traffic and several versions of paid premium accounts with unlimited monthly traffic and additional features.

I think that you may have reached your quota. Maybe after a month it reverts back. Try 'Hola' - so far so good.

  5. I did ask my local bar here in Pattaya if they had world cup coverage and he said no problem as sophon cable will have it on the astro channels they carry.

Astro are setting up 10 additional dedicated channels for the WC - Sophon and the like take their feeds from current Astro channels, i.e. Supersport 1, 2, 3. I'm not sure how that will work out.

Just done a bit of searching and it appears that the world cup games are on 'Astro Arena' & 'Astro On The Go' not Supersport 1,2,3. Sophon said (when I called them the other day) they would show the world cup on Astro.

My BIG question is will they be able to show either of these 2 other channels ??

  6. I've been following these internet threads with interest & have a question of my own.

I'm in Pattaya and about 4 years ago (when 3BB was Maxnet) I signed up for their Premier service which was 6Mb for 2.5K Bht. I was told for good international speeds & to use VOIP to the USA, the Premier plan was the way to go. This was correct, because with the standard package I couldn't connect at all.

I'm still paying 2.5K Bht for 6Mb. I realise that 10Mb and more is available/advertised for a much lower price. The Premier service is not mentioned - hasn't been for a while.

I get full speed downloads/streaming 24/7 and am reluctant to investigate more bandwidth for a lower price in case I lose what I consider a very good service at the moment. I get the 6Mb download speed consistently.

Should I go and have a word or should I stay as I am, paying more for a consistently great service ??

    Any input welcome.

  7. Hi Daffy,

Glad to hear you sorted it.

A really really good media player is Potplayer.

This player is updated very regularly (a few times a month or more) and the settings that it gives you are more than enough. For example if the audio synch is out, you can adjust it till it's spot on; you can resume watching a video from the last played point; and under video/pan & scan there's a multitude of options that adjust the picture format so that it looks right on a PC/TV.

Take a look if you like. It's reviewed here :-

and you can download it here :-

  8. Been following this thread with interest even though I'm not a big football fan.

Re. the last post, Astro Supersport 2 show some Championship matches and it is currently on Sophon. Schedule here :-

Re. the Premiership, Setanta (Ireland) have rights to broadcast & I have seen some bars showing this channel. Am unsure as to how it is obtained though, I would guess a subscription to their online site, hence the internet + a pretty good download speed.

  9. Well I have to say I'm embarrassed and pretty blind !!

Right next door to the permanently closed shop is their new shop. I went in & got what I wanted. The reason I never found the other shop was because I could see the shuttered one from a distance - it never occurred to me to go further down the road.

Just to finish off, they sell bedsheets, pillowcases, towels & a whole selection of hotel related stuff. They have 3 different qualities of king-size fitted bedsheet (for example) starting at about 800 bht going up to around 1100 bht. Not cheap but good quality.

Thanks for all the posts & who knows, that one may close at some stage then I'll be off in search of others.

  10. Anybody know where Pattaya Hotel Supplies are located ?? They sell 100% cotton sheets, pillowcases etc.

There is a shop on South Pattaya Rd near Soi Khopai which appears permanently closed and there used to be one on 3rd Road near Prima Place which has disappeared.

    Thanks.

  11. Found this on my wanderings thru' the internet. Tried it & it worked (for me anyway). Two genuine cartridges cost around 1500 Bht. A Black refill is about 100 Bht, haven't refilled a colour one yet.

Got a genuine color cartridge and a refilled the black one. The PC said the Black was low. On following these instructions the Black showed up as full. Worth a try I think (may save you in the long run) :-

  12. This topic is a few months old, but still relevent to my question. Apologies if it is answered elsewhere.

A British friend of mine who resides in Pattaya needs a letter re. proof of funds/pension for his next retirement visa. Now that Tropical Bert is in charge :-

    • Does he occupy the office (on certain days) next to Immigration in Jomtien or does he run things from his restaurant on the corner of Soi 6/1 ??
    • Will he or won't he help provide the letter needed, as consular officials have in the past or does it require a personal visit to the British Embassy in BKK ??

    Thanks.
