  1. Thanks for your replies guys.

The only thing I can say is that anyone who has access to the internet (and who is happy using it) will undoubdtedly ring the UK via Skype (or something similar) - which is very very cheap.

Those unfortunate enough not to be so technically aware will be suckered in by these companies and their scams.

  2. Just purchased a "DeeWorld" International calling card which advertises 1.5Bht/min to a UK landline.

Upon contacting customer service, I was told that it's only 1.5Bht/min to numbers beginning 02. All numbers starting with 01 are charged at the mobile phone rate of around 7bht/min !!!!

This has been in force since last September even though there is no mention of the fact on their advertising and enclosed instructions !!!!!!!!!

    * * * SO BEWARE * * *

  3. I have read in various posts that upon renewing a Retirement Visa, the 800K needed in the bank does not necessarily have to have been there for 3 months. It does for the very first application, but not when renewing.

Can anyone confirm or deny this ?? - as the wrong action taken could lead to dire consequences !!

    Thanks in advance.

  4. 400 - 500Bht is very cheap - dunno what you get for your money !!

Just spoke to a friend of Seamus who said he'd do a full service for 800Bht - special low season price. He'll sort it either the same day or the next. He's serviced mine and it's a hel_l of a lot quieter now.

  5. There's a townhouse for rent in Rungland village - that's the area opposite CAT Telecom on South Pattaya Road.

It's 2-bed, 2-bath, 2-aircon, fully furnished with cable tv and has a balcony.

    It's about 13K/month min. contract 1 year.

Nothing to do with me but up the street where I live.

Phone : 087-1278320 if you're interested (from sign on gate).

    Good hunting.

P.S. It's worth taking a wander around Rungland 'cos there's lots of houses here and probably a few more up for rent.

  6. I am British, 54, retired and living in Pattaya, looking for a full/part time job working from home. I have full computer access including broadband internet.

I worked in the UK computing industry for 25 years initially as a programmer, ultimately as systems tester on an in-house developed pharmaceutical system.

I have a BSc (Hons) Computer Science; a certificate in TESOL from Trinity College London; 7 'O' levels (Maths, English Language, English Literature, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Geography) and 3 'A' levels (Maths, Further Maths and Physics).

Please PM me with anything you might think suitable.

  9. The Bangkok Bank is (presumably) the biggest bank in Thailand but here in Pattaya (at least) it seems to have the least number of ATM machines. The one in Tukcom has been out of order for well over a week and the one outside RGP (2nd Rd entrance) is the same. It would be good to have list of locations of all banks ATM machines in and around Pattaya whether they be outside a bank or elsewhere. If this info is available please let me know - if it isn't, I'll start off with Bangkok Bank ATMs I know about :-

Main Bank (opp VC Hotel, 2nd Road)

Main Bank (opp Soi 6, 2nd Road)

    Main Bank (Naklua)

Exchange on Beach Rd just before Royal Garden Plaza

    Tukcom (Ground floor)

Rear of RGP (2nd Rd entrance)

Branch in Festival Center (North Pattaya)

  10. Best fish & chips I've had in Pattaya is at "Neeroys" (Soi Chaiyapoom - off Soi Buakhow opposite Crazy Daves).

    Fish & Chips 99 bht; mushy peas - (HOME MADE !!) - 25 bht.

More than you can eat - usually 2 pieces of fish - and "batter bits" if you're lucky.

Well worth a visit. (They do indian food as well).

  11. They only had 6 boxes of 100 Tetley T bags. Thats one for me and 5 spare. PM me your tel No. if you want them. I will be leaving site tomorrow at 8.30pm thai time and have not got a net conection at home yet.

Great !!!! ............. Have sent you a message......... Thanks

  12. I'm trying to get hold of a list of businesses with addresses/phone numbers here in Pattaya.

I have a "Yellow Pages", but this is completely in Thai (the one that I've seen anyway).

There's also a "Pattaya Directory" but this contains only phone numbers NO addresses.

    Anyone can help ??

  13. My source of Tetley teabags in Pattaya has dried up. Other posts re. this subject are old now, so I decided to add this new one.

Friendship sell PG Tips now - but very expensive.

Anyone know of a source of Tetley (or other) english teabags ??

  14. Been browsing this forum for a long time now. The time has nearly come for me to apply for a retirement visa.

However, here are a few rules that I haven't seen mentioned here, but were obtained from an immigration official

    in Jomtiem (Pattaya).........

    1. The money you have to have in the bank cannot be in an 'investment type' account - i.e. earning interest. It has to be in a normal savings/deposit account.
    2. If you're applying for a retirement visa (for the first time) and have 800K Bht in a bank account for at least 3 months, you can only apply for it ONE MONTH before your present visa runs out - even tho the new Retirement visa starts at the end of the current visa anyway !! :o My friend had a 3 month visa stamp in his passport and met all the requirements. He was told to come back a month before it expired and that would be acceptable.

Any thoughts & replies would be welcome
