  1. The ABS unit in the wifes Fiesta failed this week as well, you really need to find out what diagnostic codes you have, there were 8 codes in my wifes car

U0155 - Lost communication with Instrument Panel Cluster

U0420 - Invalid Data Received From Power Steering Control Module

U0423 - Invalid Data Received From Instrument Panel Cluster

C0034 - FR Wheel Speed Sensor

C0037 - RL Wheel Speed Sensor

    U3003 - Battery Voltage

C0020 - ABS Pump Motor Control

    U3000 - Control Module

So off to Ford Pattaya who quote 45000 THB for a car that is probably only worth about 150K maybe, we decline and they charge 1500 THB cos they looked at it, last Ford I will ever buy, car was brought brand new from Ford Pattaya and has been nothing but trouble and the service from Ford Pattaya has been cr*p. I drive a Toyota and the service compared to Ford has been chalk and cheese.

Plenty off these ABS modules available from scrappers in UK etc, 2nd hand units at around 2-5000 THB but the ball ache is you just cannot swap the unit as each one has to be programmed to the VIN number of the vehicle, I ask the missus to call Ford to ask what would they charge to reprogram a used unit but missus says they wont do it if you don't get the part from them, she says she called them to check but I don't know if she actually has or is just surmising that Ford wont program a self fitted 2nd hand unit.

There are some companies who will try to rework your unit overseas but I haven't found any in Thailand yet.

I buy mine from a pharmacy here in CM she is very good about keeping it in stock. I stocked up when the covid thing started. People on the internet buy a big bunch of the stock up for resale. This is what the lady I buy from told me, also the price is now higher 500 count bottle for O hell cannot remember but I think over 1000b now before 750 count bottle for 500b.

You are lucky, getting it in Pattaya is almost impossible, I managed to get Fascino to stock it in Pattaya for a while but they won't stock it anymore and before that I used to get it sent from Bangkok but that source dried up as well.

I knew the price has drastically increased as much as a few 100%, I used to buy the 1000 tables bottles at 500 baht but last bottles I got was 2200 baht for a bottle of 500. I have heard of a few reasons why, including internet companies stockpiling, swine flu increasing raw material cost and new customs law making it more expensive to import Desiccated pig thyroid from China though I can't see why they would need to import it with all the pigs in Thailand.

I take it you have tried the usual small shop on 2nd Road.......... If you have a genuine need for it can you not get from a doctor?...... if not in Pattaya have you tried the usual shops around Nana BKK?

Doctors will normally usually only prescribe Levothyroxine which doesn't work as well for many people with Hypothyroidism, which I have had for over a decade now. The natural Desiccated thyroid was quite easily available in Thailand, since 3 of the most common brands where made here, Thyroyd-S, Thiroyd and TR-T  but in the last year or so it has become increasingly difficult to get. Tried second road but no luck.

  3. Anybody know where I can get Thyroid-s preferably in Pattaya but anywhere in Thailand will work if I can contact them to ship to Pattaya? The Pharmacy in Pattaya that I used to get it stopped selling it and it seems it is getting increasingly harder to find this.

^ Think they're all silly o'clock kick offs Thai time so I doubt it. A stream is your best bet as Sky and beIN MENA will show them.

Yeah, I think most of them are on late.

  5. A new Indian Restaurant to me that I found on Grab delivery and have found their food to be really tasty and for Pattaya Indian's not breaking the bank is Tarka House Restaurant, this is my go to Indian right now.

Well worth a try if your an Indian food lover, the only downside I have found when ordering delivery is some of their deep fried food doesn't travel well and is usually soggy by the time it arrives, though I am on the darkside and they are located in one of the sois of Beach road so it has traveled a fair bit by the time it gets to me.

  6. I applied today for a an extension of my non imm o visa and got a stamp saying "Application of stay is under consideration of immigration bureau applicant must contact this office again on July 9". This has presented me with a major headache as I have to be in the UK on July 9 with no way of getting out of having to be in the UK on that date.

What if any are my options here, Immigration in Jomtien were no help at all. Is there any way I can get the extension before, unlikely, or after that date? I'm also a dual UK passport holder so is there a way I could leave my passport that is going to have the stamp and give someone else the authority to take my passport to immigration on that day to get stamped?

Or is my only option coming back to Thailand on a tourist visa and do a run to Savvanakhet to get the Non Imm O for taking care of my kid and then doing the extension process again ? Seems that getting a non imm o for taking care of a kid is npot possible in the UK, or at least it wasn't 2 years ago when I tried to get one in Cardiff?

    Any advice appreciated.

  7. Note that if you do the re-entry permit at the airport there is a 200 Baht service fee, but no form or photos are needed, the girls do everything.

    Takes about 20 minutes.

Thanks Crossy, good to know I don't need to bring anything with me.

BTW, do you know the location of the counter, I checked the airports website but I can't seem to locate Zone 2 on the 4th floor in my minds eye, is it before orcafter immigration?

  8. If I get the 90 day single entry, I need to leave Thailand twice in the period before I can apply for an extension, is this possible, can I get a multiple entry re-entry permit for a 90 day non-imm o and due to time constraints i.e. leaving Thailand the day after getting the Non-imm o, can it be done in the airport? A google search that led back to Thai Visa said it can be done at the airport but that there are no reports of anyone actually doing it?

You can the re-entry permit at the airport. Both airports in Bangkok have re-entry permit desks that are open 24 hours a day.

The fact that you just did an entry on your visa will make no difference.

It would be best to get two single re-entry permits. A multiple costs 3800 baht verses 1000 baht for a single.

    That's great news, thanks.

  10. Thanks Crossy, never would have thought that concrete would have better conductivity than soil, learn something new everyday. Just sank the earth rod yesterday, was quite surprised how soft the soil was, I was expecting it to be much harder.

Won't be going mad and grounding everything, just all the sockets especially the outside ones. Anything above head height won't be done. Estimate it will cost no more than 2000 baht, rod was only 150 a few different size reels of green wire and maybe the odd socket or two. Stupid thing is we have mostly all 3 pin sockets but of course no wiring to the earth pin, must be how the original spark got away with telling the owner that it was wired to EU specs facepalm.gif .

  11. After years of suffering the little tingles so common in Thailand I have finally had enough and am going to be installing an earth in my rented house. I will be doing the work myself as I don't trust any Thai spark further than I could hit them with a static shock.

I have done residential electrical installation in the past to UK wiring regs so am familiar with equipotential bonding but was wondering if the steel trusses in my attic should have an earth connection made to them?

Worst thing I've seen so far while doing this project is the house when it was wired (accordingly to european standards according to the owner) was wired with about half of the live wiring done in GREEN!!! wire..<deleted>!. Luckily I had the sense to open the CU and checking the state of play rather than assuming any green wire I was going to come across would be earthed...TIT.

  12. I Have used Shipito a lot in the last 4 years and if you have multiple packages to send I have found that there is big savings in using the MSP (Multiple shipment package?) option where they combine up to 10 packages in the same shipment. Doing this I have had savings of up to 60% over the charge for shipping individual items.

  13. I downloaded today the expat tv player and UKTV players and the UKTV player is way better as mentioned, I got the UKTV player from a download link in another thread but haven't been able to find the android UKTV player. I'd be grateful if someone could provide a link for the android apk?

  14. I wanted to connect through an Android box to my 61" HDTV set but from the sounds of it the picture would be terrible, can anyone confirm the picture quality on Thai Expat onto a big screen?

Picture and sound quality has improved significantly (especially the sound) since the previous discussion took place.

Whilst they dont stream in HD they do seem to use UK HD signals as a source, at least for the BBC channels. These channels look quite a bit better than the ones that come from an SD source and, for the programmes I watch, the overall quality is acceptable on a 55in screen. Caveat: I dont watch sport and I view via my PC and an HDMI lead, not via an Android box. Sport, with its fast movements, may pose a problem.

You are right, fast movement, like football, can be a problem.

I've watched UKTV on 2 computers, one of them (which I now use all the time) is just about ok for watching football etc but the other one was awful, I was told that it was because the spec for that PC was too low, so if you plan to watch the world cup try to get a decent spec PC. I've also found that UKTV/THAI EXPAT TV is better quality than sport365.

For normal programming I find either spot on, on either PC.

Thanks guys, I have just signed up for the free trial and will check it out. Another question is I have multiple PC's and Tv's and was wondering if the subscription allows viewing on more than one pc or if a subscription for each PC would be needed ?

  15. I'm considering either 365Sports or ThaiExpat Tv for the world cup, I would prefer commentary from BBC?ITV which is with ThaiExpat TV but have concerns that the FAQ on their website says they don't stream HD;

"At present it is not possible to view HD channels with our system. We have the capability to provide a HD stream, the problem is the minimum requirement for stable HD streaming is 10MB. Once enough of our customers have sustainable internet at the speed, we will be launching a full HD service.

I wanted to connect through an Android box to my 61" HDTV set but from the sounds of it the picture would be terrible, can anyone confirm the picture quality on Thai Expat onto a big screen?

  16. RS Have World Cup rights not GMM. It appears that all CTH footy channels will be made available on GMM. Vice versa with all GMM sport channels amongst others being made available on CTH for no extra cost to current subscribers. I think GMM customers who want EPL will pay 999bht p/m.... Why it's taken so long to agree an arrangement like this is beyond me!

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

What/who is RS? Are they satellite or cable? Hope that doesn't mean another box by my TV or god forbid another dish, the missus already thinks the house looks like a NASA building

  17. Channel 8 has English commentary if you press the green audio button, though English isn't showed as one of the options on the pop up audio selection. No English on the Media channel, the picture quality is absolutely shocking though on both channels.

  18. If I have a 1 year multiple entry Non-Imm Education Visa issued outside Thailand, what are the rules on reporting to immigration and travelling outside Thailand?

I was told by the school that the Visa is only valid for the 90 days the Immigration stamped me in for and that before the 90 days where up I would have to visit immigration with paperwork from the school to extend the visa and pay 1900 baht, is this correct? I thought I could exit Thailand before the 90 days were up and then as long as I re-entered on before the "enter before" date on the visa stamp that I would get another 90 days?

The school also told me that I would need to get a re-entry permit from immigration for each trip outside Thailand and the cost was 1000 for single and 3800 for multiple but they said the multiple re-entry permit was only valid for 90 days, I would have though that the re-entry permit was valid for the length of the visa if it is indeed required at all, otherwise whats the point of a multiple entry visa?
