  1. Just heard about another new eaterie on the Darkside called Cafe View Dee which I have heard good reviews about their breakfast which is apparantly available from 6 AM which is great for us poor souls who have to work for a living especially now that the early opening places are quite limited with Chonlada's closing.

Will be trying this place soon but it's a little off the beaten track and not a place that will get much foot traffic so it will have to survive on it's reputation, the place is found on soi 26 off of Soi Nernplubwaan. Coming from Sukhumvit that would be at a guess about 3km from Sukhumvit and turn right into Soi 26 and follow it round to the right and Cafe View Dee is in a shophouse on the left just before Party Love Inn.

  2. The incident occured mainly around the bar owners pattaya based internet forum, the person who was bottled is a member of the forum and on many occasions they have not seen eye to eye or should that be keyboard to keyboard on many subjects.

The board member was at a table with the bar owner discussing some things that had been said on the forum when things got a bit heated and the conversation got a bit loud and the bar owner fearing for his safety then decided to bottle the other guy, the guy who was bottled left the bar only to be followed by a friend of the bar owner who proceeded to kick the guy of his bike and give him a few boots to the head.

Thats about the long and short of the whole story.

  3. True have been running new cables over on the Darkside for their new Hi-speed service with packages available up to 8Mbps, currently I believe that Soi Khao Talo and Soi Khao Noi have been wired up and that Soi Nernplubwaan should be completed by the end of the month.

I went to their office to enquire about the service and they assured me these speeds are available internationally as well as just locally which really got me excited so I have signed up for the top 8Mpbs package.

So my question is has anyone had this installed on the Darkside or Brightside yet ? and if so is the service living up to it's claims ?

Can you please inform about th conditions of the contract.

More details can be found at

    http://www.truecorp.co.th/eng/promotion/pr...ispeed8mbps.jsp

but basically as I already have UBC I can get the 8Mbps package which includes a 2Mbps wireless package with apparantly 400 wireless access points around Pattaya for 1199 baht/month.

  5. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that the food at Bob's BBQ has steadily gone downhill over the last 6 months or so ?

Have even heard stories of the place running out of french fries and ribs, god knows how an American style restaurant can run out of these 2 items ?

  6. Not much new to report here...just another generally positive report for Cafe Uno on Khow Noi. I had my first dinner there tonite and was quite pleased with 2 items and non-plussed with another. As is my wont, I tried the spegetti carbonara as a post on another thread mentioned the pasta being very good. I agree...it was a very nice portion of properly cooked (al dente) noodles with a tasty carbonara sauce...quality bacon chunks were used and the sauce was well reduced and not "milky." It's served with 2 small pieces of garlic bread. At B 160 a very tasty and reasonably priced dish indeed.

Well, that was my starter and for my mains, I ordered from the Indian menu a portion of the Chicken El Jafrizi [sp]. Now, not being British nor having lived in London, I admit that I am not an expert on Indian curries. Mine was served over rice and consisted of large chunks of white meat chicken that was tender and tasty. The sauce, however, was what seemed to be a tomato based one and rather thin and watery...not really what I picture an Indian curry sauce to be from other experiences. While the dish was not bad per se...it really seemed more like a spicy chicken stew than anything Indian.

I also had a side-order of nan bread and this was very good...real Indian style with butter and garlic. At B 75 it's not expensive as the piece is quite large and filling.

To sum it up, I would definitely have the carbonara again but would pass on the Jafrizi. I would probably have an order of the carbonara with the nan on the side. Others have raved about the Jafrizi but it was not my thing. I have had a yellow chicken curry dish (forget name) at Uno and liked that one much better.

The yellow one is 'Chicken Dhansak', John; and I definitely liked that one. I haven't tried the Jafrizi yet. I also recommend the Beef Madras, which I had last week.

Cafe Uno is solidly entrenched on my "regulars" list for lunch. I usually hit there once a week, and rotate through the menu.

Yes that would be Chicken Dhansak which is my favourite Indian food at Uno and gets my thumbsup.

I also recommend the Irish stew at Uno's but you need to be hungry to eat that one.

  7. Well ... ALMOST Dark Side. (I sort of consider the east end of Thepprasit as "Dark Side in spirit".)

I just discovered a place that has been open for about a month in the Suk Lotus store. It's a "Sukiyaki and Suchi Buffet", called "Sukishi. It's located at the north end of the store, where the liquor department used to be.

The deal is, you pay 229 baht for the all you can eat buffet. You sit at a counter, with comfortable "bar stool" seats, and plenty of elbow room. There's a hole in the counter in front of you, where a hostess will place a bowl of hot (soon to be boiling) water, on top of the heating element below.

The food comes by on a conveyer belt, one item at a time, on small dishes. There is virtually everything you could want to either make your own sukiyaki in the bowl; cook single items of seafood, pork, beef, chicken, or veggies. There are a couple of types of noodles; and a nice variety of sashimi and suchi. I sampled darn near everthing in the seafood category, and found it to be fresh, and of more than acceptable quality.

A soft drink, juice, or tea are included; as is a fruit or ice cream desert.

There are also a couple of items that you can order from the hostess that are not on the belt.

It opens at 10:00, so is available for either lunch or dinner.

It's going to be added to my regular rotation of places to go. The way I eat seafood, the price is a definite bargain. It also gives me a great place to wait while my wife spends hours shopping!

If you like this type of food, and enjoy the option to select what you want, when you want it; I recommend that you give this place at least one try.

Oh, it appears, from my experience, that all of the girls speak a passable amount of English; and they're more than happy to help you get started with the process of selecting and cooking your food. Very pleasant staff.

yeah I heard about those places with comfortable sitting at a bar and some cut-out in front of you...The staff is usually quite friendly there, too...so I've been told...can someone hand me my coat...

Also opened in the Festival center beach Mall.

    Barry

Went to the one in Central as I love Sushi and Sashimi, terrible is all I can say.

The selection of Sukiyaki type stuff wos OK but to call this a Sushi/Sashimi place is a complete joke. The sushi is limited to at best 3 or 4 different types and there isn't even Tuna on the menu.

If you want Sushi or Sashimi go to a proper Sushi restaurant, for the Sukiyaki type stuff I would recommend MK above this place every time.

  8. I tested, Los Angeles, and Portland in the U.S. and London in Europe, and all get 2.5 meg download with TT&T 3 meg service for 590 Baht a month.

    Barry

same here. 221k/sec, any time of day, international or national. i live on the darkside.

It would help if you said what soi on the DS as often when trying to get internet service from some suppliers they may have it on Soi Khao Noi for example but not on Soi Nernplubwaan.

True have put a sign up (though only in thai) on Soi Khao Noi saying that the 8mb service is available now on that soi, but no such signs anywhere else though.

Can't wait till somebody gets this service and reports on actual speeds, price seems good though as long as you have truevisions or a true phone, 1100 baht/month which also includes wireless acess inside pattaya at speeds of supposedly 2Mb.

  9. Some news on the darkside restaurant scene, Annies Garden looks like it may not be for much longer with a for sale sign gone up outside, surprising as every night I have been passed in the last 2 weeks the place has been absolutely rammed, unless it's a rent a crowd to make the place look more appealing to prospective buyers.

Or it could be that just up the road a new I believe Italian restaurant is about to open called Pinocchio's, no other details on this one as yet.

  10. Just a quick mention of La Piscine, this place is run by a French guy and is located inside Chock Chai 4 village on Soi Khao Noi. The village is about halfway up the hill past Noi's bar coming from Sukhumvit it's on the left. Enter the village and keep going straight until you see the swimming pool, very convenient for car drivers is that there is room for about 6 or 7 cars to park in front of the pool.

The restaurant/bar is located behind the pool and is very nicely laid out. The menu has quite an extensive western choice and a large thai choice. Prices seem reasonable, I tried it for the first time today and just had a Chicken Salad, Prawns in Breadcrumbs and the missus had Laad Naa, 2 soft drinks where also drank and the bill came at 400baht.

Everything was very nice and even my incredibly difficult to please (where thai food in a falang restaurant is concerned) said her food was aloi mak mak.

I will definately be trying this place again. I believe though that the place is only open during daylight hours but definately a place I will eat more often at for lunch.

  11. The staff at the new Cherry's told me it was the same owner as Cherry's on third road. So they were lying?

Some of their menu items are EXACTLY the same! Look at the osso bucco, served exactly the same way with polenta at both Cherrys. Color me skeptical.

The staff have probably been instructed to say that, this is just this Bobby guy trying to make some cream of another business's good name.

Now don't get me wrong Bobby has probably out some deal with the original Cherry's for the use of the name and possibly he gets some of the food supplied from Cherry's but as with any place like this the food will be left hanging around being kept warm for hours which is not going to do anything but compromise the quality of the food.

    If you want good food I can really recommend most of the dishes at Cherry's, below are some (crappy camera phone) pics of a meal I had there this week;

French onion soup, whereas the soup was nice as has been noted elsewhere they don't melt cheese on the crouton :o

Australian T-Bone steak, very tender, delicious steak

Saute Potatoes and Garlic Bread, the garlic bread wasn't anything to write home about

    post-52199-1240565641_thumb.jpg

A very reasonable bill of 1430 baht for the above food, a couple of soft drinks and a glass of red wine

    post-52199-1240565653_thumb.jpg

Like I said most dishes at the original Cherry's are as good as many more expensive places in Pattaya despite some little setbacks such as the lack of cheese on the onion soup and not very good garlic bread.

Despite saying that I will never dine in the Cherry's on Soi Diana.

  12. The Cherry's in Soi Diana and the original Cherry's opposite Xcyte disco on 3rd road are like chalk and cheese.

The original resteraunt on 3rd road serves up some of the best quality at reasonable prices food you can have in Pattaya, as an example I this week had a 400 gram Australian T-bone at Cherry's, it was 490 baht and very good quality. Earlier in the week I had a 200 gram Australian Ribeye at Henry J Beans, not very good, extremly oily and salty for a whopping 1090 baht for a steak half the size, lower quality and more than double the price.

Anyway the Cherry's on Soi Diana is a rip off of the name by Bobby of Slices Pizza, Gourmet Pizza, WOW food delivery oh and get this Delivery Express (he sold WOW to some poor mark and then imediately started another delivery company) and Platinum Motorcycle :o fame (or should that be infamy). Anything this guy ever gets involved in is either a scam or of very poor quality.

I just hope this dump with the poor food on Soi Diana doesn't bring down the very good name that the orignal Cherry's has built up and which is thoroughly deserved.

  13. The MOS Burger chain became famous for the Takumi burger which is the worlds most expensive fast food burger at around 360 baht.

    Takumi Burger

In 2005, MOS Burger introduced the ultra-premium Takumi Burger (meaning artisan taste), a 10-level burger, featuring slices of avocado, Tasmanian beef, grated wasabi, and other rare seasonal ingredients. This burger costs 1,000 yen (6.66 Euros or 8.98 USD), making it one of the most expensive burgers in a fast-food chain.

  14. I have to wonder about this <snip>, he loves plastering pictures of unfortunate dead farangs and thais on his media outlets but doesn't seem to like having a vid of him taken. A vid on youtube sees him trying to stop a guy (with the help of a FPV out of uniform) taking a video on walking street, he accuses the guy of taking the video of taking it "covertly" why would he be worried about this, has he something to hide :o

  15. Bloody ell man you need to sort your lot out, surely you must have seen what the family was like and also if the gf/wife was good mother material.

What where you thinking having a baby with a family like that, oh well it's done now and you have to life with consequences but I must say it's the kid I feel sorry for with a psycho family and a father with no balls.

  16. Anyone know what this game is all about ? It's a bit strange as you create a character and then watch your creation fight and rise through the ranks and that's about it as far as I can see.

Maybe someone here will be able to work it out better than me, link below
