  1. True had a similar problem if I remember rightly.

Used to fade in and out a bit but at least it was audible, while I'm having a whinge they could do with moving the on screen graphic showing the score further to the left, looks like they've placed it so it would be in the corner of a 4:3 aspect screen.

  2. Channel 131, Stadium 1, is actually showing a game. Chelsea v Sunderland from a couple of years ago, WITH ENGLISH COMMENTARY. Calm down everyone.

Repeated games are always in ENGLISH COMMENTARY

So i wouldn't be telling everyone to calm down just yet.

Just make sure you all have CTH tel numbers to hand wherever you are. Bombard them with complaints if they forget to flip the audio switch in the engineering studio. The technology is proven, and they understand the issues, but if the guy responsible for the switch (or whatever) doesn't give a <deleted>, or more likely not been briefed or trained properly, it could be quiet in the opening game...
I have the direct number for the technical dept. if there's no english commentary for the Liverpool game, or any if them for that matter, I will post here. A few if the tech guys speak reasonable english.

English commentary but barely audible, they need to turn up the volume on the commentators as they can't be heard when the crowd gets noisy.

  3. make sure the set top box supports diseqc though i.e. the CTH or True box ..

Haven't seen a box not capable of diseq yet, gmm, ipm, most of them can receive channels spread over Ku band and c-band and all can use diseq to select the appropriate dish/lnb.

More of a worry would be the proper menu being password locked, but I guess your local sat installer would know them.

Sent from my GT-I9001 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Not sure if all CTH and True (Humax H200S) boxes use the same passwords, but I believe they do to keep things simple for their customer support, then the CTH box will be 0000 and True will be 2321. Just been playing with my boxes and they all have Diseqc options in their menu in the password protected Dish Setup menu options.

  4. Been looking into this and found some very useful websites, especially

    http://www.satellite-calculations.com/

It looks as though the setup I propose to do (150 cm dish and high gain LNB) according to the calculators on the website above will have too much signal for the STB but wanting to make sure I minimize the chance of losing signal from rain fade I was thinking that I will keep the original CTH dish and have the 150cm dish both going through a disecq switch. In fact 3 dish's connected, original CTH, 150cm dish and original True dish.

The question I have is that will I be able to use the 2 dishes with the one CTH STB or does disecq only work to choose the one dish per STB ?

  5. The told my missus on the phone today that they don't service Pong area at the back of Mabprachan (near the motorway).

    Can anyone else confirm ?

That's just plain stupid, maybe they don't have cable in Pong but the satellite signal should be available anywhere in Thailand. I ended up going to a local shop opposite the Esso station on Soi Nernplubwaan which had a CTH sign outside. Was installed in 4 days from contacting them, CTH finally called back to schedule installation 5 days after the local guy connected me up.

My advice, don't bother going direct to CTH as they can't cope, find the nearest shop with a CTH sign and contact them.

  6.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but if my True box has 100% strength but only 18% quality, does that mean that my LNB has somehow got rotated?

My True box's all show a quality of 100% and the quality bargraph is near the bottom and underneath the bargraph a value of about 70e-07, the quality is being shown as BER or bit error rate so the lower the better. Mine box doesn't show quality as a %age so maybe we have different boxes.

  7. Signal quality is what counts, not strength.

Unfortunately every receiver has a different way reporting strength, so you need to know the box to know what percentage is good and what becomes borderline.

Vinasat actually has pretty strong transponders, but as the elevation is lower then for example Thaicom, the distance to the satellite is bigger.

No problem for strength/quality, apart from the fact you have a higher percentage chance of somewhere having a downpour going through the line of sight between your dish and the satellite.

It is actually the raindrops creating rain fade, not a wet dish. Very often signal will drop out due to rainfade while it's not even raining where you are but somewhere far away.

The lower the elevation, the further away a rainstorm can be to influence your reception. With a very high elevation, the rainstorm virtually has to be on top of you to cut out signal.

Only one thing which helps, is a bigger dish. Every extra dB gain doubles your reception!

A 90 cm solid dish will already see a big improvement, with a 120 cm dish I doubt you'll see much rainfade at all.

We're talking solid offset dishes just like you have now, only bigger. The big black mesh ones are not much good for Ku band, I guess you need almost 2 sizes bigger to get the same gain compared to offset solid!

Thanks Monty, I asked the installer about putting a larger dish but typically it was another thai with no clue, first wanting to install the dish behind some trees and when I asked about a larger dish he replied "big dish make no difference mister" I just gave up at that point and let him complete the install.

I will wait to see how much effect rain fade will have but will probably up the dish size, BTW any recommendations of a shop to buy a larger dish ?

Would an in-line signal booster help minimise effects of rain fade or are these only to minimize losses from long cable runs ?

Good to know the mesh ones are not much good as I was actually looking at these yesterday, that bit of advice has probably saved me from a bad purchase.

  8.

I'm down here on Samui. I have a 1.5m Ku band dish with unobstructed line of sight to the satellite (no trees, etc)

My signal is 85% and quality is 54%.

At the moment I have no picture on any channel, so I guess it's raining in Vietnam. facepalm.gif

By the way, True uses Ku band as well.

Just checked, have a picture here in Pattaya. I have the standard CTH dish currently wich I think is 75cm. Didn't realise True was Ku as well.

  9. What is your signal strength and quality like ?

to check signal strength and quality
    press "menu"
scroll the options at the bottom of the screen with left/right arrow keys until "setting" is under the blue arrow
use up/down arrow keys to highlight "dish setting"
    press "OK"
when asked for password, enter 0000
you should then get a screen that has "strength" and "Quality" shown near the bottom.
It would be good if you could put your figures up here to get a feel of what's good or bad.
I have 3 box's and figures are as below so far with the lower strength number daytime and increasing slightly at night (hot clear day). This is on the darkside of Pattaya but it would be interesting to see all areas as a comparison.
    Box 1
    Strength 74-77%
    Quality 54%
    Box 2
    Strength 87-89%
    Quality 56%
    Box 3
    Strength 72-74%
    Quality 54%
Now idiot who installed it was saying 54% quality, velly good, this was after he was going to mount the dish behind some trees until I forced him to mount it at a part of the house with a clear view east. Now in my mind 54% sounds mediocre so be interesting to see what other are getting ?
I've heard that CTH suffers a lot from "rain fade", makes sense as they are using the Ku band which is more effected by rain/clouds than the C band that True uses. If I get any issues with rain fade then I will try a bigger dish. Right now I'm going to coat the dish and LNB with Rain X, the stuff used on car windscreens, so any rain will run off the dish instead of sticking to it. Don't know if it helps but some AV forums seem to say that it helps slightly with rain fade.
  10. I will be getting CTH satellite installed in a few days and I was thinking of asking the installer of installing a larger size dish than the standard CTH one (75cm I think). I have heard that the satellite signal from CTH suffers quite a lot from rain fade and I don't want to be missing large chunks of programming because of rain, it's not good for my blood pressure.

Just wondering if others with CTH have experienced rain fade or have CTH through a larger than normal dish ? Also anyone know any of the technical details of a compatible dish, I do believe the signal is in the Ku band ?

I remember I used to have a lot of trouble with True and rain fade until True installed a larger dish, so will try to nip it in the bud this time rather than having to get a larger dish at a later date.

  11. Any reports on the satellite signal quality, I have heard that some have experienced signal loss and it is very dependent on whether it's raining in vietnam as apparently the signal comes from a Vietnamese satellite.

Also any word on whether English commentary will be available on the CTH system for EPL matches ?

  12. I have 2 True lines in Pattaya, 10Mbs ADSL and 50Mbs Docsis. Both have been struggling with foreign sites. Checked speeds on Speedtest and the ADSL had a ping of 485ms to BKK and speed was 0.5Mbs. Docsis speed was showing as OK but seems slower than normal.

But theres certainly seems to be an issue with True ADSL.

  13. Was going to use QS hospital for an umbilical hernia operation, missus was quoted 17,000 to 30,000 on phone but decided to go to BPH as it's just much nearer to home.

Had the op last Thursday and left hospital on Saturday, price was 130,000 baht.

  14. Yes.

I bought a US TV to the Middle East and it would not work with an HDMI STB so I ended up buying one of these which solved the problem:

    http://www.atlona.co...rter-1080p.html

Like you, I didn't think HDMI came in PAL and NTSC flavours, but there you go.

Thanks, will have to see if I can pick a couple of them up, found some on ebay for $125. Crazy that NTSC and PAL is still an issue though with all this digital technology.

  15. Anyone have any information on getting the True set top box (Humax H200S) working with American TV's ?

I just had delivered a couple of HDTV monitor/tv (Samsung T27B350) from the US thinking I would be able to connect my PC and Truevisions STB so I could switch between the PC or True and was going to set one up in my office and one in my daughters room.

Connecting the PC was no problem but everytime I try to switch to the True STB I get a "Mode not supported, change resolution on external device" message, now I've tried every resolution on the True box and still get the same message, now what is confusing is the Samsung monitor is a HD monitor with a 1080 resolution and the True box when set to 1080 resolution I still get the same error despite the resolution of the True box set to the native resolution of the monitor. The connection was done with a HDMI cable, I then tried the component connetion but still get the same message.

Is there still some kind if incompatibility between US and other standards like there was between NTSC and PAL back in the Analogue days ?

  16. Thebox is now working.seems that True where having issues somewhere.

Anyhow, the responses in this thread got me looking into Seedbox's and I've signed up to SeedrootS for a month to try it out, $28 a month for 1Tb storage, 100Mb/s speed with 5Tb bandwidth.

Downloads the torrents real quick but the issue I have is getting the downloaded files from the seedbox to my home pc, what are you guys using to get the speeds mentioned while transferring files from your seedbox?

I tried ftp and it was downloading at 100kbs, then I tried SSH with Swish and a 223MB download took 2 and a half hours!!!!!

  17. I have been using thebox UK tv torrents P2P for about 6 years in Thailand with no problems until yesterday when all my thebox torrents went red with a "connection closed by peer" message. I have 2 TRUE lines in a dual wan configuration, 20Mb Docsis and 7Mb ADSL and the torrents are being blocked on the 2 lines.

Of course TRUE are denying that they are blocking torrents but on thebox's forum there are a number off users complaining about the same issue and funnily enough all are based in Thailand and are using TRUE as their ISP. The stupid thing is it seems that they are only blocking thebox as TPB and eztv are working as well as a few others that I have.

About time "TRUE" changed their name to something more appropriate, maybe "Lying B'stards" would be better.

  18. I don't think the percentage in the gel is anything near 30%. It does not hurt. My guess would be not moe than 10% but i don't know exactly.

Being in a gel, and with the use of the fitted trays (moulded from your teeth), it is possible for the peroxide to be in contact with your teeth for hours, which gives a much better result than just tooth brushing. For best results they recommend wearing it all night, which is what I did. minimum recommended application time is 2 hours.

You can buy OTC in the US peroxide gels and one-size-fits-all tooth trays that you can somewhat mould by dipping into very hot water and then biting into. I imagine this is also what is on EBay. It will not give the same level of fit and comfort as the custom made moulds from a dentist. And I think (but am not sure) that the gel is a lower concentration that that prescribed by a dentist.

Given that the tooth trays can be reused multiple times it is worth the $ IMO to get them made. the gel alone costs about 1,000 baht a tube.

Hi Sheryl, would you mind letting us know which gel you used and where you get it from in Thailand, is it from a dentist or can it be store bought ?. I tried this once before years ago and I remember the gel would sensitise my teeth so I stopped but my teeth have now taken on dark staining (too much red wine) and would like to try again ways to whiten my teeth.

  19. Some good info on this thread, I have bought melatonin in the past from Life Extension in the US and have just a few weeks ago ordered $900 worth of supplements from them, worst thing is the shipping costs from the US, FedEx was almost $200 but I opted for USPS which was $102.

Also ordered from Swanson this week, very good prices and they appear to have a reputation for good quality, only $50 from them but again shipping was $40.

I've tried getting what I needed in Fascino and other places but it's like talking to the wall at times. I went in Fascino to ask if they had copper supplement and the assistant said "hab" and what did she give me a box of Carnitine ermm.gif guess it starts with a C right.

Also the prices in Thailand seem to be quite expensive and even with the added shipping costs from the US the still work out cheaper.

  20. I buy coke light mostly from a small mom&pop shop near my home and they told me that supplies of diet soda are difficult to get and will be for the next month or so due to some production issues at the factory, doesn't makes sense to me as why would coke and pepsi be affected unless they both get the artificial sweetner from a single source that is having problems.
